I am so fucking unattractive on holiday.

Despite being slim and wearing fake tan, I still end up pasty when the fake tan wears off and wobbly because my legs are ugh.

I break out in an obscene amount of spots. Every. Time.

I’m allergic to mosquito bites and insect repellant does NOTHING. I currently look like I’ve gone several rounds with mike Tyson as I’m covered in golf ball swellings.

My hair is crap and I’m a sweaty mess.

And I always get the shits. Any kind of change to diet or climate and my stomach is fucked.

How do you beautiful people do it Grin

So do I. Nothing to do with diet or their climate for me - if it is warm here I get the shits too. Truly lovely!!!

Hammondisback · 30/08/2019 15:35

Avoid the beach by day. Go sightseeing instead, cover yourself in fake tan and Mrs White’s Unstung Hero and enjoy the cooler evenings, sipping cocktails. Works for me.

Citronella essential oil (a few drops in 100mls water) in a mini spray bottle from Boots is just as good as Deet, and less chemical.

Deathraystare · 30/08/2019 15:41

I have an allergy - to what I do not know - some are like hard pimples. All very hard and itchy until I scratch then they are sore.

I had a miserable ride home on the bus with a very itchy back - in places I could not reach so as soon as I got home I used the back brush. It might be not washing soap off my back properly but I don't think it is the same for my feet. On my toes are some very hard pimple like things and when I tried to shave the hairs on my toes it gets very painful! I also get very sweaty too. Lovely innit?

BustedDreams · 30/08/2019 15:53

Don’t go abroad Grin. Works for me 😊

ContessaLovesTheSunshine · 30/08/2019 16:01

I must say that the older I get the less I care, and I'm not even 40 yet. I decided to get started on the not caring early Grin halo of frizz, bloat, sweat and blotchiness. Form an orderly queue, fellas behind DH obv

LoonyLunaLoo · 30/08/2019 16:05

Try Skinny Tan fake tan as it fades naturally rather than in patches. Top up with their gradual tanner every few days to stay brown.

There’s only 2 beach hair dos: messy bun and 2 Dutch braids (which if you’re really really lucky will dry into lovely beach waves for the evening).

Avon skin so soft works for mosquitoes and I can see why because it bloody stinks I certainly repel myself when I have it on 😂.

Pop a few highlighting drops in your foundation to give you a nice dewy look.

No idea about the shits... at least you won’t look bloated!

Bluntness100 · 30/08/2019 16:20

I swell up on long haul flights. Tummy, fingers, ankles, face. For a couple of days after I'm about two sizes bigger than normal with cankles. I get on the plane looking normal and get off several hours later looking like the beast who ate friggen Bolton.

As it slowly dissipates, I start to slowlyswell up from thr booze, sun, and food. I really only get back to normal when I get home. A couple of years ago they lost my bag on a long haul trip too. So had four days without any make up, hair stuff, or decent clothes, as there was sod all to buy locally. So not only did I look like shite, I was dressed like it too.

Fun.

Cyclemad222 · 30/08/2019 16:23

Beautiful people use stylists and photoshop. Stop giving so much of a shit

CherM1592 · 30/08/2019 16:28

You're on your holiday! Please stop worrying about what you look like. RELAX! Strut your stuff and be confident, streaky tan, spots and mosquito bites, forget them! I always used to stress about bikinis on holiday, before I realised everyone was far more concerned with how they look to be having a gawp at me. Lifes too short!!

Whatthefunk · 30/08/2019 17:32

Oh gawd, I'm feeling your pain....I'm on holiday at the moment and I've had an allergic reaction to the new washing powder. My whole body is on fire, and I look like I have burns on my face.....I stupidly took 2 antihistamines, this morning, and I've been like a zombie all day. Thank God, we're going home tomorrow Sad

JudgeJudyismyinspiration · 30/08/2019 18:46

enid I was actually joking!! It’s okay honestly to see the lighthearted side sometimes. Jesus Christ had bigger things to worry about than his cellulite in Tenerife I suspect Grin

Doobigetta · 30/08/2019 20:12

I have been on at least one hot weather holiday every year for the last 15 years, and you know what? I have NEVER seen any other holidaymaker, British or otherwise, look even half as horrendous as the descriptions half the posters on this thread are giving of themselves. And I’ve got to be honest, I’m not particularly a non-judgemental person, and I probably would notice. Why are you all being so stupidly hard on yourselves? You’re supposed to be on holiday to relax and have a nice time, not set yourselves new impossible standards to meet. It’s not a bloody competition to be the most self-deprecating person in the world. Everyone gets a bit sweaty when it’s 30 degrees- just go in the sea and cool off. Everyone gets a few mozzie bites- it’s hardly smallpox. Everyone’s hair gets a bit frizzy, and it would be nice to think everyone had better things to do than sit in their room battling with straighteners. Honestly, I’m a regular on Style & Beauty and I can’t be arsed with the lecturing about “why do women waste their time with this stuff” but really. Give yourselves a fucking break. You do not look anywhere near as awful as you say, and even if you do, it just isn’t as important as enjoying your holiday. FFS.

CassandraCross · 30/08/2019 20:58

PrincessConsuela I see you have said you are in Spain, if you are near a Mercadona supermarket try their mosquito repellent all the locals I see use it and the smell of it is enough to knock anything dead! Also, Mercadona sell the plug in mosquito things get some for your room, they do work. My husband gets bitten and, like you, it causes him problems and the above stuff has stopped him being bitten.

Try the local pharmacy for over the counter remedies for your allergic reactions, I'm always amazed by what medicines can be bought over the counter in Spain and the pharmacists are incredibly helpful.

On the subject of being on the beach or round the pool one of the things I love about Spain is that the beaches, particularly those used by locals, are populated by people of all shapes, sizes, ages, looks, etc., and no-one gives a stuff.

girlywhirly · 30/08/2019 21:03

I’ve got to the point that no-one will care what I look like to other people at 61 years old. Having lost weight, I now have wrinkles and droopy boobs, but I bought a good tankini to hide them, and my legs and arms are not bad with less fat on them. I have treated myself to some new clothes and have a reasonably trendy haircut, with highlights, so what if I have beach hair after going in the sea? It gets washed and blow dried with styling spray in the evening to go out for dinner. I resolved years back that I wouldn’t be like my mother and be insecure about my appearance and old fashioned in my dress sense and outlook.

I am grateful for a PP for the info on vit B12, as I am a mossie magnet. I’ll certainly give it a go.

Something that might help others with gut problems, my DH takes kefir daily now. It supports his gut flora, every holiday he had the runs at some point and he got quite anxious which didn’t help. He was taking Imodium instants and Gaviscon dual action tablets as he had spasms and thought he had IBS. The kefir drinks sorted him right out, nothing short of miraculous. We rush to the supermarket at our destination now and get supplies in!

pearpickingporky84 · 30/08/2019 21:10

I look awful on holiday- frizzy hair, pale skin and wobbly bits. I decided this year not to worry as I wouldn’t see anyone I knew, tied my frizzy hair back, forgot about makeup by the pool and wore my rubbish Speedo swimsuit as I hadn’t had time to go bikini shopping and decided just to enjoy myself. Went to the pool on the second day of the holiday to find myself on the lounger beside one of the other school mums who obviously looked gorgeous!

userxx · 30/08/2019 21:41

@Doobigetta Calm down, it's lighthearted piss taking.

Newbie1981 · 30/08/2019 21:47

I'm dark and I think pale is so beautiful. An English Rose 😀. Embrace it babes

MamaFlintstone · 30/08/2019 21:49

I get prickly heat rash and spots every time. And I’m also fat so hot weather holidays are not my friend.

PrincessConsuelaTheSecond · 30/08/2019 21:59

@CassandraCross the nearest one is chuffing miles away. I gave up with the online delivery option as my Spanish is shit and translating to English takes so much time!

Have done a pharmacy trip today though. As much as I whinge DD must be in hell, she has over 50 itchy bites!!

my3arebetterthanyours · 30/08/2019 22:08

Bless you, I think it's normal to have insecurities, there's always going to be someone prettier or more toned or with better skin. I can say you just have to love your self and be comfortable in your own skin but I won't! We all have our good and bad days! I hope you have more good than bad honey Wink

Doobigetta · 30/08/2019 22:49

@userxx, yeah, I’m a humourless grouch because I find it depressing that women encourage each other to hate themselves. It’s my thinking that’s fucked up Hmm

Trying81 · 30/08/2019 23:36

I was the same, now I embrace the pale

Factor 50 on my face, shine free sun cream on it so I’m not glowing - plus a hat in the day

Boots own brand tropical insect repellent is the best I’ve ever used, not one bite when I used to be covered

I use some dry shampoo in my roots and under my fringe so it’s not stuck to my head

I’m far from one of the glam squad, but I feel a little better doing the above - cocktails help
