Or only booked after prince Harry's controversial Private jet trip?

The story could easily read M and H offset their carbon footprint, where thrifty by using heir friends plane

No it couldn't. How did they 'offset' their carbon footprint? By donating money to a charity that sponsors initiatives for people in the third world to reduce their own carbon foot print? (that's what I read, tell me if I'm wrong) If true, essentially they are getting poor people to offset their pollution! Which is really awful. It's called greenwashing apparently.

The environment really doesn't care about whether you donate money to offset your footprint.

stucknoue · 22/08/2019 21:18

The Middletons must have had significant means before the internet business because the kids were in very expensive schools! I don't begrudge people who make their own cash though, especially when they spend it on education - I would have if I could

I don’t for one minute think you can off set your carbon footprint, might point was/is that how you are portrayed in the press can different dramatically, and it could easily have been spun in a positive light, but it easier and fair game to bully the newcomer rather than the others who have potentially committed bigger crimes or have lower values.

@JinglingHellsBells just wondering would the whole family (W, K, G, C & L) not normally all travel together? I understand heirs not travelling together but didn’t think it would be the case to separate parents/children/siblings?

SierraNevada · 22/08/2019 21:23

About 2 years ago William Kate, George and Charlotte were sat at the front of the standard carriage of the train to London as I was on. Some security guys did a sweep of the carriage before anyone got on and then everyone was allowed in. William took George to the loo a few times. No one bothered them and they were very quiet.

Haffdonga · 22/08/2019 21:26

Have they ever used commercial flights before?

Yes. Regularly. Friend is a commercial pilot and has flown them more than once a few years previously.

derxa · 22/08/2019 21:28

I don't think William is nasty at all. Nor do I. i think he must feel very sad about what has happened.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 22/08/2019 21:35

I see your point Freddie

I really don't agree with them all travelling together. I think one parent should take 2 children and the other travel separately with 1. All it takes is one tragedy and they are all gone.

And that would be the end of the Monarchy because I cannot see people hailing in H&M with any enthusiasm, Although to be fair their popularity is probably higher than Charles and Camilla's.

Personally in such a scenario I'd rather see Eugenie or Zara ascend the throne.

BertrandRussell · 22/08/2019 21:39

I don’t know much about carbon offsetting, but my understanding is that the money goes to projects that benefit both the environment and individuals. I read about one that provides cooking stoves that are better, safer and greener.

BertrandRussell · 22/08/2019 21:40

Obviously it would be better to do that -and not fly........

Shenanagins · 22/08/2019 21:47

To be honest I wouldn’t have cared about the private jets having assumed it was for security/privacy reasons but given that they have been lecturing us about the environment strikes of hypocrisy and that does bother me. They will need to up their PR game if they want to stay relevant.

BertrandRussell · 22/08/2019 21:48

“given that they have been lecturing us about the environment ”

Can you show me the lectures?

lavenderandthyme · 22/08/2019 21:51

I read somewhere that William and Kate go to the local pub for a meal in Norfolk sometimes. Kate also took the train to visit a friend recently. I think they try to live as normally as they can most of the time. Kate is seen in Kensington Park with the kids. Not trying to keep the proles at arms length.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 22/08/2019 21:56

I read about one that provides cooking stoves that are better, safer and greener.

That may have been the one, however if I'm correct, the initiative helps very poor people to be more energy efficient and environmentally conscious, and as you say, it would be better to do that and not fly, otherwise they are sponsoring poor people to pay for their privilege to cause pollution - which adversely affects the poor more than it does the rich.

I just don't think they thought about it much, which again causes one to wonder who is responsible for managing their PR? Because they are doing an awful job of it.

BertrandRussell · 22/08/2019 22:04

I agree it’s problematic. But I don’t think it’s a good idea to dismiss carbon offsetting out of hand. As I understand it, the projects benefit individual people immediately- as well as benefitting the environment. So it’s a sort of solution for people who feel they have to fly. I don’t think going on holiday counts as having to fly, though......

Hithere12 · 22/08/2019 22:16

What??! You do realise it’s all a puppet show and they have no actual power & if anything was to happen Harry & Meghan could cut the ribbons?

Emmapeeler · 22/08/2019 22:20

Wills would never actively try to damage Harry’s reputation. My guess is also RF damage limitation or just chance if he often takes commercial flights.

CorBlimeyGovenor · 22/08/2019 22:21

Defo after! They're playing a smart game. Biding their time and outsmarting them at every move! I have to admit that I am thoroughly enjoying it.

BertrandRussell · 22/08/2019 22:23

Does anyone know how that usually get from Anmer to Balmoral? Presumbly this is a regular thing?

FenellaMaxwell · 22/08/2019 22:35

@bertrandrussell they’ve been seen on that flight before, yes. And my DH was on the same flight as them from LHR a year or two ago.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 22/08/2019 22:37

You forget that symbols are powerful. H is further away in the line of succession than he's ever been and still there's portraits of Meghan adorned in Queenly Rainment and Z list celebs jumping to their 'defence' (procuring unearned glory by association) and praising their example of love as if they are the first culturally mixed couple to wed in the history of the world ever. You think you've seen identity politics? Hold onto your children.

Just the thought!!!

LaMarschallin · 22/08/2019 22:45

"Nacho Figueras".

So he's a real person? Not somebody in a Jilly Cooper book?

It's a great name.

BertrandRussell · 22/08/2019 22:49

“bertrandrussell they’ve been seen on that flight before, yes.“

It’s the sensible way to go. No credit for the budget airline, though. There aren’t any others!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 22/08/2019 22:53

I reckon when Kate heard Harry and Meghan say "we will have no more than two kids for the environment" Kate turned to Will and said "book the Flybe. I'll show the fuckers".
