Do you think duke of Cambridge's flybe flight was already booked?

Or only booked after prince Harry's controversial Private jet trip?

This story has developed in the past hour or so. There is now apparently information that has been leaked to the DM (who knows from where...) that an empty flight was flown by Flybe from Norwich without the Cambridges knowing, because Flybe were so keen to be associated with them. Or something. Its a strange sort of story. Currently on the DM website.

"The source said: ‘It’s utterly extraordinary and makes a mockery of their family’s very laudable attempts to travel more economically and in a more environmentally friendly manner."

"‘An additional 4.5 tons of carbon emissions were created simply to ensure that an aircraft with Flybe written on the side operated the flight with the Royal party aboard, instead of the usual aircraft which flies the route. It’s obviously not their fault but is utterly ridiculous.’"

Wildorchidz · 23/08/2019 23:07

It now is being reported that Flybe flew an empty plane to Norwich so that it was their livery on the plane that W and K used.
Several tons of carbon emissions right there

Mind you with the wild fires burning in the Amazon rainforest a few tons of carbon emissions are meaningless.. the rainforest is now almost at non regeneration tipping point

I think this was definitely a PR opportunity, I would prefer them to take private jets. It is not just about their safety bit about the safety of the general population. Which flight is more likely to get targeted. Megan and Harry are being villified, I would consider the safety of my family my first priority, they are allowed to speak on climate change and still use the services offered to them, it is called bring human.

But FlyBe operate out of Norwich to Aberdeen daily. Why would they do that? Unless W&K flew in an otherwise empty plane specially laid on for them. Which would have been funny. All the emissions of a private jet but budget airline seats!

GrapefruitGin · 24/08/2019 09:00

I work for the airline, that’s how I know

CommercialKitty · 24/08/2019 09:00

The Flybe flights from Norwich to Aberdeen are usually and most often operated by Eastern Airways (and in the autumn I think Loganair which are tiny planes) so it would have not looked like a Flybe flight if you were papping them. That’s why the flight company went to all that trouble to get a “real” Flybe plane down there with a logo on. It now has backfired and doesn’t make Flybe look good at all!

GrapefruitGin · 24/08/2019 09:01

He has flown plenty of times with low cost airlines too. Crew get a head up, he gets on first and gets off first. Also with a bodyguard of course.

lavenderandthyme · 24/08/2019 09:04

I wonder what PH is doing in Inverness?

GrapefruitGin · 24/08/2019 09:09

To add, the plane wasn’t empty.... full in fact but no one really noticed Prince Harry was sitting on the last row.

lavenderandthyme · 24/08/2019 09:22

So where was Meghan then? Has she flown in separately? Odd.

GrapefruitGin · 24/08/2019 09:27

I guess they don’t travel everywhere together!

lavenderandthyme · 24/08/2019 09:31

Yes but i assume they are all going to Balmoral? Maybe not...

BertrandRussell · 24/08/2019 09:35

Bear in mind that edition of the Metro also reports on a giant asteroid heading for earth......

lavenderandthyme · 24/08/2019 09:36

Oh really? Shock

nononever · 24/08/2019 10:14

It's not unusual for various members of the royal family to live in different residences when they visit Balmoral, there are loads of properties, the estate is massive and the scenery is stunning. .

There is a really nice bothy for hikers right next to the cottage where the royals have barbecues. If the family are there the only request is no photos. Apparently it's not unknown for Sophie to invite hikers across to join them. She's a particular favourite of the staff there.

TiredOldTable · 24/08/2019 10:21

Very last minute if flybe didn't have time to change the plane in advance- they allocate planes a few days before.

GloGirl · 24/08/2019 10:22

I dont have time to read this thread but anyone who's ever taken one of the Eastern Airways internal flights (as I used to, to go to Aberdeen) knows how small and luxurious the planes already are. Theres maybe 20 seats on board? If you include security, nannies, PR or whoever would be travelling with them they probably bought out the flight anyway.

A world away from cattle class to Lanzarote!

poolblack · 24/08/2019 10:23

This is nonsense by the press. The eastern airways Embraer isn't Flybe branded.

poolblack · 24/08/2019 10:24

The flights are operated by Loganair for Eastern. They are on a 50 (ish) seat jet.

I'm assuming you are being sarcastic re small and luxurious? I used to fly Eastern Airways to Orkney to meet my husband when he was based there a few times a year and the only luxurious thing about the flight was the Tunnock's caramel wafer you got with your cup of tea Grin. Lost count of the times I banged my head on the overhead locker getting into my seat.

ajandjjmum · 24/08/2019 10:42

It was a fellow passenger who took the photo as the family were disembarked first - hence the appalling quality!

No photographers were tipped off!

poolblack · 24/08/2019 10:44

What photo?
