Do you think duke of Cambridge's flybe flight was already booked?

Or only booked after prince Harry's controversial Private jet trip?

Very well played. TBF though there wouldn't have been anything to 'play' if the Sussexes hadn't been so tone deaf and so soon after the last criticism of Harry's jet use. They've brought this on themselves, completely avoidable PR disaster.

MabelMoo23 · 22/08/2019 15:34

It did make me chuckle and part of me for second wondered if when the pics broke of M&H, Wills shouting to Kate from the study "fancy a quick trip to see Granny in Balmoral?? 73 quid with Flybe!"

You can just picture Harry's face when the pics were released. I suspect FFS was uttered

Impeccable timing

GlitchStitch · 22/08/2019 15:37

Haha they've probably been biding their time since the comments about it being 'boastful' to be on Vogue's cover and the two kids jibe. They didn't have long to wait!

They definitely fly on scheduled flights long haul. My friend has been on a flight that Charles and Camilla were on, the flight time was brought forward from the original booking by 30 mins, not odd in itself, but after leaving the gate rather than taxiing to the runway it pulled around to the royal/vip terminal and the swiftly boarded via steps into first class - it was announced on board after the doors were shut no big deal.

tisonlymeagain · 22/08/2019 15:46

I think Kate and Wills have a golden PR person working for them - that was my first thought. Well played!

HollowTalk · 22/08/2019 15:49

But for them to get those four seats together, they must have booked in advance, surely? Otherwise everyone would be complaining that they'd had to move seat.

Aqueo517 · 22/08/2019 15:50

Kate and Wills may well use commercial flights but they also fly privately.

Harry and Meghan need to just learn to keep the mouths shut.

Amazing spinning there!

goldfinchfan · 22/08/2019 15:57

In the photo you can see William carrying two suitcases and keeping the two eldest children with him.
I liked that. He looked like a normal Dad.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 22/08/2019 16:01

I think the rift must be true, or the Cambridge's wouldn't have tipped off photographers as them flying economy being covered in the papers would be bound to piss off the Sussex's

Or William as Heir Apparent is being responsible and trying to cool all the tabloid negativity? He surely knows things like this can lead to real public discontent. Remember the crisis after his Mother died when the press turned against the Royal Family and even the Queen was criticised? There's that whole spiel about Tony Blair saving their arses. He wasn't invited to their wedding either was he?

Hithere12 · 22/08/2019 16:08

Exhibit A - a cheap plane
Exhibit B - a posh plane

Are the emissions the same from both? Because both will broadly be pumping the same, so its actually irrelevant what they are flying on

Really? You don’t realise flying economy is half as harmful as you’re only taking up half the space and therefore double the amount of people can fit on the flight?

IcedPurple · 22/08/2019 16:10

As far as obvious PR moves go, it's a pretty clever one.

And it's not Will's fault if his dumb brother and his wife keep happily wading into one bad PR story after another.

XXcstatic · 22/08/2019 16:11

you don't think for security reasons the future King and the 2nd/3rd/4th and 5th in line to the throne warrant their own private plane?

Why? I'd be very sad if anything bad happened to them (as I would with any young family) but only the monarch has any State function and there are many other Royals in the line of succession. The loss of William's family would cause no significant problems to the UK, tragic though it would be for them and their loved ones.

Also, commercial jets are statistically far safer than most private planes, so - if it's the succession you are worried about - they are safer travelling with the plebs.

TheFairyCaravan · 22/08/2019 16:13

Prince William "took world leaders to task" over climate change in Davos. He's taken hundreds of flights by private jet but it's only Harry and Meghan who need to keep their mouths shut.

Had the tables been turned and it was William getting negative press then Harry taking a budget flight the knives would have been out for Meghan for being spiteful. They can't win.

reginafelangee · 22/08/2019 16:15

I've read previously and him and Kate flying with easyjet. If its a private trip they pay for themselves and they don't have to take a full entourage with them then it makes sense.

Although if I had the money myself I would first class whenever possible.

IcedPurple · 22/08/2019 16:17

Yup.

Plus, the crown prince - now King - of the Netherlands used to work as an actual pilot on scheduled KLM flights. I don't remember any hijackings.

IcedPurple · 22/08/2019 16:20

I'm pretty certain that if William took no fewer than 4 private flights - all of them for leisure purposes - within less than 2 weeks, only just after wagging his finger at the plebs (not 'world leaders') for holidaying in popular spots and having plastic covers on their dry-cleaning, then he would most certainly be called out for it.

I'm not a fan of any of the 'royals' but there is no double standard here. There just isn't.

TheYeaSayer · 22/08/2019 16:25

William is not heir apparent. Charles is. Just saying...

I did agree with your post, though!

GlitchStitch · 22/08/2019 16:28

What has Harry said about dry cleaning?

IcedPurple · 22/08/2019 16:29

But for them to get those four seats together, they must have booked in advance, surely? Otherwise everyone would be complaining that they'd had to move seat.

They'd have security with them so it would be considerably more than 4 seats.

My guess is the seats were booked in advance but the photographers 'just happened to be there' for .... reasons. How often do we see pics of the Cambridges - particularly with the children? They would certainly have given approval for the pics to be published.

SlothMama · 22/08/2019 16:30

Well either way they've proven that the 'security risk' excuse is a load of shit

nononever · 22/08/2019 16:30

I believe that members of the RF quite often fly on commercial flights to Aberdeen. I know the Queen and Princess Anne have done regularly in the past. I think it might be something to do with the route or the airport.

The Queen usually gets the train up, Prince Andrew flies private jet, no surprises there. It's a PITA airport to fly to/from as flights are limited eg no flights to Gatwick which is an annoyance for those of us that want to use that route.

LizzieSiddal · 22/08/2019 16:30

I suspect Charles and Wills have had words with Harry about the way he is now doing things- no proper baby photos, no cameras allowed at the christening, no naming of the GodParents, asking for lots of privacy then Meghan editing Vogue, preaching about the environment then taking 4 private jets.

Harry is not listening.

The setting up of these pictures, is William saying to his brother "Stop taking the piss and get back in line, you do not have my backing if you carry on like this"

IcedPurple · 22/08/2019 16:31

What has Harry said about dry cleaning?

He lectured some poorly paid hotel worker in his hotel in Rome about the fact that his dry-cleaning had a plastic cover on it. Because that's what's killing the environment, not rich folks heading off on 4 private flights in under 2 weeks.

BertrandRussell · 22/08/2019 16:32

“asking for lots of privacy then Meghan editing Vogue”

Have the asked for privacy about anything but the baby?
