What's your favourite UK seaside town?

Looking for somewhere for a traditional seaside holiday.

I'd like a nice, safe, sandy beach.
Water warm enough to swim (or at least wade) in.
A few shops, cafes, fish and chips and ice cream within walking distance.
Don't really want nightlife, arcades etc.
What's your favourite?

Although you might need a wetsuit for anything more than a bit of paddling!Grin

We live in a seaside town. It’s certainly not that one.
I can think of plenty but they all are crowded and noisy when the weather is nice or as my dh helpfully pointed out bloody freezing in winter.

Tenby was just awful the day we visited for the first and only time as you could barely move for all the people so no doubt it’s coloured my impression of it.
Whitby and Scarborough are the same.

fedup21 · 03/08/2019 10:30

I like Frinton :)

There are some lovely places in North Wales as well.

Sooverthemill · 03/08/2019 10:32

Southwold but it's not really warm enough to swim for that you need Devon r cornwall. Ilfracombe is lovely. I like most of south cornwall ( to be warm for swimming). Love north Cornwall too but colder. But the best place in uk for the seaside is Isles of Scilly. But it's so expensive

Looe is nice. Families catching crabs along the harbour wall. Sandy beach with rock pools. Lots of cafes, ice cream and fish and chip shops. There are a couple of amusement arcades but they are tucked away inside the town. Great pasties. Nice coastal walks over the headland to some other beaches and to Polperro. Lots of boat trips to islands or to go fishing. Water is safe for swimming on Looe beach. DC had a couple of happy holidays there. Also happy at Walberswick/Southwold. And Amble Northumberland.

WalkAwaySugarbear · 03/08/2019 10:34

Kirkcudbright. It is a quaint fishing town with lots of independent shops and galleries, rather than a beach but there are lovely beaches dotted around, Dhoon is a nice one.
