What's your favourite UK seaside town?

Looking for somewhere for a traditional seaside holiday.

I'd like a nice, safe, sandy beach.
Water warm enough to swim (or at least wade) in.
A few shops, cafes, fish and chips and ice cream within walking distance.
Don't really want nightlife, arcades etc.
What's your favourite?

Lyme Regis or St Ives always my no.1, but book somewhere in the town with parking, so you can just leave your car at the start of the week and not move it again unless you need to get out of town.
In the same vein, as many have said, Southwold is lovely.

pinkmagic1 · 03/08/2019 12:32

Love Whitby and Wells next the sea.

Croyde. Just returned from a fantastic week there. Body boarding with the kids, great pizza from the pop up pizzeria, two ice cream shops, local store/coffee shop and one or two pubs/restaurants. Brilliant.

Filey

Swanage, traditional bucket and spade holiday with Punch and Judy shows.

Close to cosmopolitan Bournemouth and lovely Studland Bay.

motorcyclenumptiness · 03/08/2019 12:38

Budleigh Salterton. Or Aberdovey.

Joyfulincolour · 03/08/2019 12:40

Southwold or Wells next to the Sea. Both lovely.

Juog · 03/08/2019 12:41

Sheringham in Norfolk is lovely

AnnaFiveTowns · 03/08/2019 12:41

Tenby

KUGA · 03/08/2019 12:46

Another Tenby vote, but also love Llandudno.

Papergirl1968 · 03/08/2019 12:46

Tywyn. Nice beach, seafront paddling pool and play area, fish and chips and ice cream on the seafront, plus a family friendly pub, independent cafes and tea rooms in the town, along with a few gift shops. Swimming pool and cinema. And a backdrop of beautiful mountains. There are a couple of small arcades which are easily avoided (but a godsend in wet weather).
I do like Aberdovey, the next resort down for those not familiar with it, and it has donkey rides and crabbing, so good for popping to for a couple of hours, but the parking is expensive.

I love Woolacombe in Devon !

@AngelsWithSilverWings interested to hear why you dislike Woolacombe bay so much, we have stayed at two of their sites previously and had a great time! ( genuine question, not being bitchy! )

JellyNo15 · 03/08/2019 12:57

Tenby. So pretty. Lots of different boat trips. Lovely beaches and harbour. Everywhere is family friendly. Some great attractions if you feel like a change.

DrCoconut · 03/08/2019 12:59

Lyme Regis gets my vote. Go to Antonio's for dinner!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 03/08/2019 12:59

Another vote for Sheringham in Norfolk.

Hunstanton

IlGattopardo · 03/08/2019 13:02

Although I said Lyme, I actually think Swanage is just as nice and better for children - the steam railway, Corfe Castle, Studland, loads to do on the way to/in nearby Poole for wet days.

Kaykay06 · 03/08/2019 13:06

Sherringham is lovely been a few times for the day as mum lives in Norwich
Am from Nairn in highlands and love the beach but think town is a bit tired these days. Never been to St. Andrews when it’s not been windy
Tenby sounds lovely

megletthesecond · 03/08/2019 13:07

Exmouth.
Sandy, RNLI, cafes and ice cream near the beach.

Hedgehogblues · 03/08/2019 13:08

Barry Island
