DH and I are looking to move and we would like to move to Yorkshire.

Our requirements are...
Lively villlage
Picturesque village
Village green, duckpond, cricket pitch, that type of village centre
Oh and a great pub or two.
Decent broadband, we both work from home

Schools, public transport etc not an issue. What villages would you recommend?

York is now widely considered a commuter city for those who work in London at least part of the week, so you won’t be alone in that respect. Given the speed of the line from york to London your commute will be quicker and easier than that of many people travelling to other northern towns and cities thanks northern fail

I would recommend coming up for a few days and rent a holiday cottage in one of your preferred villages. That way you can get a sense for the length of commute etc. Plus I will reiterate what I said earlier about being in close proximity to a well serviced market town. Quaint villages are delightful until it’s 7:30 on a Sunday evening and you’re out of milk!

It’s 2 hours on the train from Wakefield to London and the trains are really regular too. Wakefield city centre itself is awful but there are some nice villages on the outskirts, and it would still only take 10/15 mins or so to drive to Wakefield Westgate. Newmillerdam is lovely if you’ve got a decent budget but it’s not so much a village as just a nicer part of Wakefield. West Bretton is nice and on the doorstep of Yorkshire Sculpture park. Clayton West is a little further away but has a lovely community feel as BIL has just moved there and loves the friendly atmosphere. I’ve heard good things about Flockton which is between Wakefield and Huddersfield.
