Only got here yesterday. In a sort of complex in Menorca with my dc and some other family. It advertised as having air con. The room was stifling. After hours of complaining they finally moved me and dc rooms about 1030 last night. It’s marginally better but boiling. We now back onto all the bars so it’s bloody loud. I nod off Eventually but woke sweaty and an annoying bird has been outside my window ALL night. Iv had 2 hours sleep and want to go home. I have 3 more nights but can’t cope with this. I get migraines and lack of sleep is a trigger. It’s in the 30’s and boiling. Kids won’t forgive me if we went home and my parents wouldn’t go home either. I don’t know what to do. I’m going to complain again but this is ridiculous. This is our second room....... in so tired I was actually crying at 3am!

I had this once in Turkey.

Take a towel, soak it in cold water. Wring it out and then wrap around your legs. It makes you much cooler. Not great but at least cooler.

Also comment harshly on Trip Advisor about the aircon and other failings.

rookiemere · 16/07/2019 07:48

I'm not sure OP is going to get any further with the rep. She has said there is air con of sorts in the new room, travel agents don't guarantee the specific quality of air con units so they have met their description already.

Hope you slept ok last night OP .

hellsbellsmelons · 16/07/2019 08:19

Bless you OP.
I really hope you are now getting to enjoy your holiday.

This may sound weird, but when we lived in Spain in the heat of summer we used to wet the bed sheet (top one) as it dried it cooled us off. And a water spray bottle of you have one to spritz yourself

hoxtonbabe · 16/07/2019 08:39

Blimey.. I was thinking of booking a last minute to Menorca.. I would like to know what hotel this is so I can avoid it.

I have been to Spain a few times and always had air con.. last time was Ibiza in October and we had air con that needed to to used a couple hours a day as it was still quite warm, but maybe in the height of summer it would prove ineffective as it was the preset one like others have mentioned... hmm I may knock Spain on the head as I sweat like a donkey at the best of times.

GrabbyGertie · 16/07/2019 08:49

I hope things have got better OP.

I'm amazed at how nasty some of the replies on this thread have been and also how stupid some of the comments have been. I really think some posters get a kick out of being unpleasant. It's weird. What saddo's.

I can get migraines triggered by lack of sleep and heat and I still go to hot countries. Just like the OP I make sure I book places with AC. I would be pissed off if it didn't work too.

QueenOfIce · 16/07/2019 08:54

Keep complaining until it's sorted, if your booking states the room has a/c and there's none working they need to sort it. It's ok saying buck up etc but when it's absolutely boiling in your room it's hard to be happy especially if you can't sleep and then there's noise.

Speak to the rep and write a review.

bamboolzled · 16/07/2019 11:19

In Mexico, many moons ago, I had a room with no air con. We’d take a cold shower, lay under the ceiling fan and chill off. The effect would last similar to that of air con for 2-3 hours.

Run a sink with cold water, or cool as possible, place wrists into and that will cool you down works with your feet. Blood vessels are close to the skin here, think of an elephant with huge ears, they are in fact giant heat exchangers

cryer · 16/07/2019 13:59

I live in a hot country. There's a difference between enjoying sunshine and trying to sleep in a room that has been heating up all day, that becomes stuffy and unbearable. You need air con to sleep.

We stayed in a hotel years ago and there was a natural disaster. All air con was out. It was hotter in the rooms than outside. Opening windows was out of the question unless we wanted to be eaten alive by insects.

Celestine70 · 16/07/2019 15:34

Come on you are on holiday, not everyone can go. Let your DH take kids out while you rest. When I was at a hotel with no aircon they provided us with cold sheets, maybe ask about that? Take a cool shower.

tangledyarn · 16/07/2019 18:06

celestine did you read the OP? There is no DP..she is there with her parents who cant manage the children on their own.

Justsaynonow · 17/07/2019 00:06

This thread is a real insight into how people minimise true migraines

This.

sweetkitty · 17/07/2019 00:31

OP said lack of sleep triggers her migraines, the heat and noise was preventing her sleeping. Even the fear of a migraine can be so horrible. It’s not just a headache take a few paracetamol and shrug it off. Due to lack of sleep and jet lag I lost a day and lag of my life last week. Hemiplegic migraine lying in bed head under a pillow unable to function, being sick crying in pain. Who would want that on holiday so ill you can’t get out of bed or care for your children? That’s what’s stressing the OP out?

CheungS255 · 17/07/2019 10:34

If you want to go to hot sun holidays, you need to read up some facts and find out how to deal with it as not everyone loves hot weather.
English clothes does not help in hot weather. Hot countries clothes are made with different material to help keep body cool. Dont wear long sleeves or long trousers. It is air con but require top up gas if its not cool. Take lots of shower throughout the day or swim to cool the body. I just came back from malaga and actually had to wet my body with my clothes on to keep me warm whilst having to stay with my kids at the pool as they dont seem to be bothered by the heat. The pool is a god send with lifeguard and i have peace of mind knowing kids are having fun and i am actually napping by poolside listening to their laughter.

CheungS255 · 17/07/2019 10:35

i meant wet my body with clothes on to keep me cool under the shades
