Only got here yesterday. In a sort of complex in Menorca with my dc and some other family. It advertised as having air con. The room was stifling. After hours of complaining they finally moved me and dc rooms about 1030 last night. It’s marginally better but boiling. We now back onto all the bars so it’s bloody loud. I nod off Eventually but woke sweaty and an annoying bird has been outside my window ALL night. Iv had 2 hours sleep and want to go home. I have 3 more nights but can’t cope with this. I get migraines and lack of sleep is a trigger. It’s in the 30’s and boiling. Kids won’t forgive me if we went home and my parents wouldn’t go home either. I don’t know what to do. I’m going to complain again but this is ridiculous. This is our second room....... in so tired I was actually crying at 3am!

Gosh. MN can be really mean. The OP has children with special needs, she is coping on her own and specifically booked a hotel with A/C. Yes, the hotel has a responsibility to provide it. The towel or the sheet sodden so it cools you down. Get a fan. I live/have lived in very hot places and never had aircon. A good sized fan will do two things 1. Cool you down 2. Create white noise. If you can, freeze two bottles of water and place them in front of the fan. It helps to circulate cold air around the room. Good luck as others have said it’s only a short time.

Skyejuly · 14/07/2019 08:47

Could you try an amazon order to hotel?

Zaphodsotherhead · 14/07/2019 08:51

If you have any pool toy things, try sleeping on a lilo on the floor. An air bed is cooler than a fabric bed, being lower down is cooler and you can wet yourself and it without the whole bed being soaked.

(Did this in Oz, well on a blow up bed rather than a lilo. It was 42 degrees and humid).

Where in Menorca are you?

RandomWok · 14/07/2019 08:55

I'm not being rude but have to check the settings on your ac unit? My step dad was melting at night as his ac wasn't working properly. Turns out he had it set to fan only. Could that be a possibility for you? I really hope things work out and you enjoy the rest of your holiday x

NotYourHolidayDick · 14/07/2019 09:05

Jesus motherfucking christ, MN is full of sanctimonious pricks. I mean, I agree with most of you, but give the woman a break.

OP, first night is always the worst. I want to go home on day 1 of every holiday. It'll all be fine today, chin up and give those kids a great holiday. And stop yer moaning Grin

maddiemookins16mum · 14/07/2019 09:10

The OP may not have a rep if she packaged her own holiday.

LarkDescending · 14/07/2019 09:59

Hope you can find a solution to the AC situation OP and can get settled into a relaxing holiday. We are also in Menorca atm and it does take a day or two to get used to the hot humid nights if you are coming from the UK.

If you are on the south side of the island be careful in the sea as there have been loads of jellyfish around in the last few days. Locals say they come in huge numbers and then disappear as quickly as they arrived.

RumpoleoftheBaileys · 14/07/2019 10:08

@TheStuffedPenguin

You clearly have comprehension issues.

IhaveALooBrush · 14/07/2019 10:16

I can't believe people are being so nasty.
Holidays cost a fortune and you clearly aren't getting what you paid for.
Contact your rep and keep pestering the reception.
When I lived in a hot country with no AC I used to shower before going to bed. It did help.
I wish I'd thought of the wet towel thing.

BlueSkiesLies · 14/07/2019 10:20

I stayed in an air BnB last year in France in a hill top village. There were three separate church bells that rang every hour on the hour all night.

Omg I think we stayed in the same place!

Well actually my French church bell nightmare was one church, that donged on the hour and at quarter to and quarter past. All. Night. Long.

missyB1 · 14/07/2019 10:29

I’m in Menorca right now yes it’s bloody boiling. I wouldn’t sleep a wink if it wasn’t for the air con. We are in a very small resort that isn’t particularly busy but flipping heck the noisy music at night is sooo irritating! Luckily it stops at midnight, but dh and I like to go to bed at 10 ( yes we are old farts!). Last night was the worst it was an ABBA tribute band - they were spectacularly shit tbh we had to laugh Grin Grin

OP I really hope you get the air con sorted, sleep deprivation is like torture.

Frith2013 · 14/07/2019 11:01

You can make your own earplugs out of blutack.

*recommended to me by my son’s ENT surgeon so he could go swimming!

Delatron · 14/07/2019 11:21

You’re going to have to kick up a huge fuss. You’ve booked somewhere with Air con and paid for it and this is what they need to provide. Don’t leave reception until you’ve spoken to the manager. Demand money back for the first few nights. Ask to be moved again due to noise. You need to be pushy!

Inbedbynine · 14/07/2019 12:36

Thanks to those that weren’t being mean to me when I was at breaking point after a horrific exhausting day travelling with kids with SN!!

I KNOW it’s just a holiday blah blah but our only one for years and I needed air con mainly for one of the dc with autism and sensory processing disorder but I was suffering too!

I KNOW how hot it is here of course I do and was prepared for day time heat etc, I was NOT prepared to be in a horrifically hot room when I had specifically paid for air con!

I have moved rooms and it is cooler. Not great but better. It’s TUI and the rep said nothing she could do as there are no fans and nearest were half an hour drive away in a taxi. So I’m now prepared with wet towels for tonight and in a quieter area. Thanking to the PP who understood how bad these type of migraines are from lack of sleep Flowers.

I’m now going to get off my high horse, enjoy the sun and drink numerous Wine Wine

So do you have AC now or not? If not, what did the rep say?

Inbedbynine · 14/07/2019 12:50

Rep said nothing they could do other then me move rooms. There is air con but not the sort you can control, it’s on very very low so better than what we had.

Anothertempusername · 14/07/2019 12:52

Bit of a pile on here for the OP!

@Inbedbynine all I can advise is to be relentless with the staff at the hotel; go several times a day and they will have to act?

HopelesslydevotedtoGu · 14/07/2019 12:55

It’s TUI and the rep said nothing she could do as there are no fans and nearest were half an hour drive away in a taxi.

If the room was advertised as having AC and doesn't, then the rep should organise a fan. Half an hours drive away is very doable, they can send somebody to buy them. Someone working at the hotel will have a car and be able to drive there today.

A fan will make a huge difference - I prefer a fan to AC.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 14/07/2019 12:58

Glad you're a bit more positive OP.
The stress of worrying about whether you will get a migraine is also really anxiety inducing I do feel for you.
Hope you feel better and you get some 😴 tonight.

HopelesslydevotedtoGu · 14/07/2019 12:59

Things that I find helpful -

Cold shower just before bed
Drape wet towel over yourself in bed (wring it out a bit so not dripping)
If you can get one, fan (is there really no fan anywhere in the hotel??)
Glass of water next to bed and drip flannel in this then apply to hot bits of your body eg armpits
Don't do too much in the heat of the day. Rest inside until it cools down
Keep curtains closed during daytime. If a breeze you can leave windows open with curtains shut

Delatron · 14/07/2019 13:08

But that’s an unacceptable response from the rep? What do they mean it’s on very very low, can they get an engineer in to turn it up? I’d still keep on at the rep and say you want to complain and ask for the procedure to do so. You have paid for an air conditioned room and you haven’t got one.

Delatron · 14/07/2019 13:10

Just a thought but as it’s TUI I would ask to move hotels? One with fully working air con like you’ve paid for. Don’t let her fob you off.

SusieOwl4 · 14/07/2019 13:18

I was just going to say was it Tui. They are rubbish when it comes to sorting out problems . I had to take them to court .

HouseworkAvoider10 · 14/07/2019 13:20

Post your complaints on Twitter, Tripadvisor and any other platform that you can.
That might help chivvy things along with the useless management.
Poor you, it does sound miserable.
I wouldn't go home though.
