Only got here yesterday. In a sort of complex in Menorca with my dc and some other family. It advertised as having air con. The room was stifling. After hours of complaining they finally moved me and dc rooms about 1030 last night. It’s marginally better but boiling. We now back onto all the bars so it’s bloody loud. I nod off Eventually but woke sweaty and an annoying bird has been outside my window ALL night. Iv had 2 hours sleep and want to go home. I have 3 more nights but can’t cope with this. I get migraines and lack of sleep is a trigger. It’s in the 30’s and boiling. Kids won’t forgive me if we went home and my parents wouldn’t go home either. I don’t know what to do. I’m going to complain again but this is ridiculous. This is our second room....... in so tired I was actually crying at 3am!

I had a similar experience this year. Quite an expensive holiday to a destination everyone seems to love, but by day 2 I’d had enough and wanted to go home.

Rivkka · 14/07/2019 13:45

See the manager and if that doesn't work, tweet the fuck out of them.

What company is it?

justasking111 · 14/07/2019 13:46

I got nowhere with Thomas Cook after an awful bleach accident until I started tweeting with pictures. That concentrated their minds wonderfully.

cavalier · 14/07/2019 13:49

Unless it’s a diagnoses of a serious illness just try and think of it like this “ im here, I’m well and I’m blessed to have been able to get here ... sometimes some holidays arent as great as some but I’m here ..and alive and kicking and with my family “ ... this usually pulls me out of my negative feelings (which we all get at times )
Hope it gets better for you and you can see things differently after some helpful posts 👍

sergeilavrov · 14/07/2019 14:05

Make sure the fans and AC is running during the day. It’ll make sure the room isn’t stifling when you return. If it works on a card system, you can put any card (eg an expired gift card) in the slot while you’re out of the room - it’s a weighted system, not dependent on it actually being your room card.

I’d definitely spend an afternoon in the local town exploring and pick up a fan. Keep the receipt and try and get it reimbursed afterwards. Frozen bottles in front of it will do the trick. Ask if they have a hot water bottle, and freeze it. It’ll keep you cool all night. You can also chill your pajamas in a ziplock.

tangledyarn · 14/07/2019 14:09

I really feel for you. I struggle with severe chronic migraine too and lack of sleep/heat is a huge trigger for me, actually not going on holiday this year because of it. It's not just a case of feeling a but knackered and getting on with it if you have hemeplegic migraines it will render you totally incapable of functioning. I'd definitely be asking to move hotels if there was air con advertised and it's not working/shit! Flowers

INeedAFlerken · 14/07/2019 14:38

I would complain to TUI and ask for a chunk of money back. AIrCon means air con as we know it; not some low level cool setting on a heating system. This is false advertising.

I hope you can be made comfortable enough for the rest of your trip with the wet towels. Sounds awful.

Daenerys77 · 14/07/2019 15:09

I had some sympathy until I read the bit about the annoying bird. Local fauna do come with the territory.

AcrossthePond55 · 14/07/2019 16:07

Hope you sleep better tonight.

I always try to put it in perspective. It may sound silly but I think to myself "It's only XX days out of the rest my life and I'm going to live XX more years. I can deal with XX days".

Mummyoflittledragon · 14/07/2019 16:15

Did you not ask the tui rep if you could change hotels? They just can’t be arsed unless you make a fuss.

bordellosboheme · 14/07/2019 16:18

Op. I know what you are going through a bit. I stayed in August in London in a room last summer with know air con and it made me so I'll I ended up having to call an ambulance for chest pain. Not meaning to scare you by can you calmly explain your medical needs to the hotel and ask if they can help? If not consider transfering to a hotel with air con for the last few nights. Are you with a tour company? If so I agree that Twitter will have them respond in a nanosecond!

Sgtmajormummy · 14/07/2019 16:31

OP, this may sound basic but please drink lots more water than you think you need.
Dehydration can make any situation much more unbearable, so basically drink and sweat it out simultaneously!
3+ litres of water a day and alcohol doesn’t count! Grin
Headaches, irritability and lack of energy are all signs.

Delatron · 14/07/2019 16:58

I would honestly demand to change hotels. You have to kick up a fuss. I know all these ‘sleep with a wet towel on you’ posts are trying to be helpful but I’m sorry, you’ve paid for decent air con. Demand to get it! I wouldn’t be traipsing across the island to get a fan either. I’d be in reception until it was sorted. Come on OP you can do it. They will fob you off if they can. Don’t let them!

Ignoremeiaminvisible · 14/07/2019 17:24

I go to Menorca most years. In many of the hotels the air con is restricted for environmental reasons, often doesn't come on until the room reaches a certain temperature, sometimes that is 24C. You have to be very careful that you keep the metallic cutain closed at all times during the day, even when you are in the room or out on the balcony. That does make a huge difference to the room temperature. This year was much hotter than normal when I was there 3 weeks ago (approx 8-10 degrees hotter) but I only needed the aircon on for a couple of short spells.

cardamoncoffee · 14/07/2019 18:20

IME 'air conditioning ' is a broad description. In the last place I stayed in it only came on at a certain temp and at a very low level, it really didn't make a difference at alI and you had no control over it. I complained to the manager who said it is still AC. Sympathies OP and lots of cold showers

DarlingNikita · 15/07/2019 17:27

It’s TUI and the rep said nothing she could do as there are no fans and nearest were half an hour drive away in a taxi.

That's not acceptable. Name and shame them on social media.

bordellosboheme · 15/07/2019 17:57

I went on a tui holiday recently and the reps seemed uninterested in the holiday makers too. I think there is a central customer service tui number you can ring whilst abroad. Try them?

Amibeingdaft81 · 15/07/2019 18:03

* had some sympathy until I read the bit about the annoying bird. Local fauna do come with the territory.*

Me too
Plus fact that overnight temperatures in menorca are 20/21 degrees, which is hardly sauna like

FlyMayBe · 15/07/2019 18:04

The rep had better call a cab and get going then...

Totally my approach. But it would seem we are in the minority.

Amibeingdaft81 · 15/07/2019 18:08

Has the OP named the hotel?

Earlier on in the year, the OP started a thread expressing severe anxiety about the reviews she’d read about the hotel. I’m curious to know which hotel we’re talking about!

HairyFloppins · 15/07/2019 18:13

I remember that thread as I commented on it. I think it was the Marina Parc, but I may be wrong.

LovePoppy · 15/07/2019 18:16

I’m so sorry OP. It’s obvious That many of these people have never had a migraine.

I hope last night was better.

I get heat migraines. I require AC when on holiday. I get it.

RubbingHimSourly · 15/07/2019 18:20

Get a fan sent to the hotel via Amazon.

Amibeingdaft81 · 15/07/2019 18:27

Has the OP actually had a migraine? The OP says heat is a trigger but doesn’t actually say she’s suffered from one this holiday
