Only got here yesterday. In a sort of complex in Menorca with my dc and some other family. It advertised as having air con. The room was stifling. After hours of complaining they finally moved me and dc rooms about 1030 last night. It’s marginally better but boiling. We now back onto all the bars so it’s bloody loud. I nod off Eventually but woke sweaty and an annoying bird has been outside my window ALL night. Iv had 2 hours sleep and want to go home. I have 3 more nights but can’t cope with this. I get migraines and lack of sleep is a trigger. It’s in the 30’s and boiling. Kids won’t forgive me if we went home and my parents wouldn’t go home either. I don’t know what to do. I’m going to complain again but this is ridiculous. This is our second room....... in so tired I was actually crying at 3am!

And if heat is a trigger... it does beg the question, why holiday in a hot country? Unless you intend to spend the entire time inside in air conditioning

NoBaggyPants · 15/07/2019 18:31

If it is the Marina Parc there's a supermarket and bus stop within a few minutes of the hotel. And the hotel does have air conditioning.

VenusClapTrap · 15/07/2019 18:33

Half an hour is nothing. I’d be off to buy that fan, personally.

RB68 · 15/07/2019 18:35

Wrists feet and back of the nexk for cold wet facecloths works even better with a fan on.

I would second giving your M&D the kids for a few hours and sleeping somewhere in the shade

BlkPlimsole · 15/07/2019 18:36

If it helps OP, we've all had s* holidays.

I had one in Portugal so bad I got a flight home the next day!

We live and learn.

I hope things get better for you.

Oblomov19 · 15/07/2019 18:59

I had this. Travel agent refused to do anything. Was awful.

defineme · 15/07/2019 19:07

Does your phone register temperature? If so, I would post screenshots of the temperature on all tui social media

user1467536289 · 15/07/2019 19:07

We stayed in a villa in Menorca - it was v expensive and beautiful - but it had NO aircon!! Ceiling fans - but they were ineffective against the very high temperatures. I had to wash all the sheets daily - thankfully a very efficient washing machine - and they dried within minutes out in the hot sunshine! I sympathise with you - it is oppressive - but your children need this break and so do your parents. If you can think of any coping strategies besides the ones suggested on here - please give them a go! I really do sympathise - I got bitten quite badly as well :-( double trouble!

LovePoppy · 15/07/2019 19:16

@Amibeingdaft81OP Said that lack of sleep it was a trigger for her. I said heat was one for me.

Why do I travel where it’s hot? Because I’m not about to be trapped in a place where I can’t. For me, as long as I have access to water and air conditioning every few hours I am fine.

SuperSara · 15/07/2019 19:19

I have no advice, OP, but I would hate it.

I can't stand being too hot. I'd be thoroughly miserable!

Middersweekly · 15/07/2019 19:25

I hope you’re managing to enjoy yourself now OP! I live in the south of Spain and we have been having a heatwave the last 4 days. The temperature is due to normalise again tomorrow so hopefully it will be better for you. I have been to Menorca in the 90’s and it is a beautiful little Island. I would try and get out to see some of the Island if you can!

MaybeitsMaybelline · 15/07/2019 19:38

A pp mentioned wet towels laid on you, my friends in oz recommend this especially when their air Con goes off sometimes.

I tried it last summer in the heatwave, it works.

blue25 · 15/07/2019 19:45

Definitely strange to holiday in a hot country if heat triggers your migraines. Maybe stick to the UK next time.

BossAssBitch · 15/07/2019 20:06

TheStuffedPenguin
This reminds me of an American woman I saw once complaining about there being seaweed on the beach and in the sea

Are you and some other posters on here being deliberately obtuse? The OP was promised air con in the hotel, she has explained clearly that she cannot sleep without it. She has no air con, her comfort has been diminished. It’s not at all like complaining there is seaweed in the sea Confused

OP, poor air con would drive me insane Angry I’m quite happy to sunbathe in the heat as I have the pool or the sea to cool off in, and I’m NOT TRYING TO SLEEP Grin

Tinkerbelle57 · 15/07/2019 20:10

If the rep said there is nothing they can do that is rubbish !!!
The room has been advertised with air con and presumably you have paid for it. So it is down to the rep to attend to your needs.
There are too many reps that want to go out to the sun and have welcome meetings and jolly it up on trips etc. Then when things go wrong they shirk away and are evasive. I have seen and heard about it too often.
If you get no joy from the rep or complex staff, contact the holiday company.

MisterT373 · 15/07/2019 20:22

Get onto Twitter and Trip advisor and tell your story. This kind of feedback tends to get quicker response

Catsinthecupboard · 15/07/2019 20:33

I am sorry OP.

Until things are sorted out, put ice in a plastic bag and put it on your neck, inside elbows, wrists. Or put feet in cool water.

It will help you cool down until you get AC.

FelicisNox · 15/07/2019 20:40

I feel you... you can't just "buck up" and "fake it to make it".... that's not how migraines work.

I've been to Menorca and had a similar experience, hence why I will never visit that dump again.

You have my sympathy. Xx

wisteriablossom · 15/07/2019 21:02

We had this problem a couple of years ago the air con was rubbish , best thing to do is get an card (store card of any type )and leave it in the electricity or air con point . Make sure all windows are completely close as the air con won’t work correctly. Worked a treat in our room .

Isatis · 15/07/2019 21:12

Rep said nothing they could do other then me move rooms. There is air con but not the sort you can control, it’s on very very low so better than what we had.

Then surely the answer is for the rep to get on to the hotel management to demand that they turn the air con up generally.

Or, as pp have rightly suggested, the rep should move OP to a hotel where there is proper air conditioning as agreed when she booked.

Chochito · 15/07/2019 21:47

Can you go somewhere that does have aircon, while the hotel sorts out your room?

Lozz22 · 16/07/2019 00:43

I couldn’t sleep the first night I was in Cyprus, it was the hot. In the end I drenched a towel in cold water and wrung it out best I could then laid it over my body. It cooled me down lots and I was able to fall asleep afterwards. The noisy holiday makers is a bit annoying me and my Mum had some on our last holiday, but we slept with the patio doors wide open every night cos it was warm and we were on top floor so of course we could hear them shouting, laughing and singing every night

tangledyarn · 16/07/2019 04:33

This thread is a real insight into how people minimise true migraines. If it was another physical symptom (eg I have problems walking..operator said there would be a lift, there is not a lift) there is no way that people would be saying: Why did you go on holiday then? Why dont you just forget you cant walk up stairs and get on with it? The OP has a physical condition, she identified what she needed to ensure that she could go on holiday with her family, and it's not there or is inadequate.

jillybeanclevertips · 16/07/2019 06:54

So sorry your vacation is turning into a nightmare. Try for a refund from the booking company, and then take a quiet break away from it all.

scubadive · 16/07/2019 07:01

Hi op, contact TUI at home, ring the U.K. number to complain, I would bypass the rep they are often useless.

Ask the UK for a transfer/upgrade or at least for the rep to go and buy a very large fan.
