Continuing the one about Carol, Dick and the “ free “ holiday .

Carol has replied to Anne saying she is shocked that Anne would cancel her flight after promising it. Anne has told her that she gave her no option .
Both Barbara and I have messaged Carol saying that she has behaved badly and should apologise to Anne.

Crazy! I hope you have a fabulous holiday. But I wouldn't put it past Dick to head out anyway and do a tour of all the villas, if he can find them on Google...

When Carol claims to be shocked that Anne cancelled the flight after promising it, she does realise, doesn't she, that Anne promised it solely for the purposes of a girls only trip? She didn't promise it to her just to give her a free flight, and it was exceptionally generous of her not to cancel it earlier.

Given you've been friends a long time i'm sure her 'anxiety' about travelling without Dick would have become apparent ages ago if it were true

Ultimately I think Anne has done the wrong thing but it’s a shame that no doubt the friendship will never recover from this, especially if Carol has previously been so supportive to Anne that Carol felt she needed to show her gratitude in a holiday.

I think Carol’s found the thread. 😂

The only thing she's shocked about is that for once someone stood up to her and Dick's bullying cheeky fuckery. The key to it all was in OP when she brought up that she was anxious about being without Dick and then brought up taking the en suite and wouldn't take 'no' for an answer. That's the sign of a CFer.

In answer to some previous posters, if this happened to me my reply would be.
1.what if he tried to get in the taxi with you - he would be on his arse at the taxi rank
2. what if they turned up at the villa and demanded to stay I would call the police and say we had intruders

No-one would be so bloody "English" to put up with shit like that.

Anne has behaved with dignity and generosity throughout this. Well done to you and Barbara for supporting her through. I hope you have a truely lovely and relaxing holiday once you get there (and that you come back and let us all know).

I also hope someone (Eddie?) lets word slip in the golf club about Dick's appalling behaviour. Phoning the Villa owner, i did not see coming Shock

Given the CFery to date - especially with Dick ringing the villa owner to try and locate the villa posing as "friends" wanting to drop in - I think that they are relying on guilt tripping 3 women in their 60s not calling the police in a foreign country.

I hope that cancelling Carol's flight and not meeting her has made it more than clear that they aren't welcome.

However I do worry that they will still come and either try to follow your taxi, or drive around the villas owned by the rental lady (if she has a small number and the locations are on her website).

I'd have a plan for what to do if they do show up expecting to stay. There will be a hotel with a room free somewhere, so don't feel you can't turn them away. But if they just sit down and refuse to leave that will be tricky - have a plan!

I guess that would make Dick Villazoid? I hope for Anne's sake that that's the last of the drama for now. She sounds like she needs lots of unmumsnetty ((((hugs))))

A lot of people have suggested that Dick has cohesive control over Carol, have they considered it might be the other way? Less common but it does happen. All the things done by both parties could have been instigated by the other. Dick could have called up because it's what Carol expects, as well as Carol claiming bullying because Dick requires something. Or they could both by CFs. We have absolutely no way of telling.

Also I wonder if the villa owner would be prepared to have Dick in there after that phone call? He could find himself with a lifetime ban!

Actually, I think it would be worth meeting with her. Just to make it crystal clear the effect the two of them have had on poor Anne who's been through so much and has been so generous in trying to thank her friends.

And I'd love to go face to face with Dick so I could rip him a new one and see his face when the phone call is mentioned.

Can I ask how Dick and Carol know the number but not the address? I know you said Anne had sent information but why would that not have the address? Have I missed something?
