Cost of making eastenders..

Whisky2014 · 01/06/2019 23:11

I just wondered how much it costs to make Eastenders and after just clicking a few articles on this I have found it to be about £140k per episode...£30 million a year.

Not only that, but the BBC had a £60 Million budget to upgrade the set and they have managed to go £27 million over this bringing it to £87 million and to be completed by 2023, 5 years late.
"MPs heard the set, built in 1984, is “no longer fit for purpose” and the rebuild is “crucial to the future success of EastEnders"

Well, sorry but it's absolute brain rot and if rather it didn't have a future! I'd much rather they made some good quality series. If they put their mind to it, the BBC can make some really good stuff. Why do they insist on shoving this crap down people's throats? Viewing numbers have been decreasing, I assume because of the younger generations being more inclined to watch stuff on Amazon and Netflix etc, so this revamp seems like even more of a waste. Confused

And I have actually said the BBC can make some good stuff. Just not EE!

Yes it is excessive and if you could see the disparity between BBC and their commercial rivals you'd understand why there are advertisements on commercial TV and radio, however annoying. BBC has millions and millions and lots of management, literally six similar titled people at a meeting with one commercial rep who will have a few tens or at best hundreds of thousands to compete.

I'd keep the news and talk/drama/documentary radio and world service but fuck off the rest.

Can we be nice please, folks?

I'm going to do a you, graphista.
What we've said is you don't have the right just because YOU don't like it to say it should be cancelled! I haven't said I do have a right, same as you... I'm allowed today I think it should be cancelled though.

"op caught!!" Caught from what? The fact that over a year ago I said I watched friends all day? How bizarre. A one off most likely hungover. It's not often I do that and I completely agree it's not high brow which is why i assume I was hungover watching it Wink. When have I said I never watch t.v.?!

"and we shouldn’t have to pay the nasty stealth tax that is the tv license" Misquoted.

"Given we've had video since the 80's, while its easier & cheaper now with streaming & catch up services I know a good few people who have never even owned a tv or have chosen not to watch live tv and therefore not had a licence for many years - most of them are scots as part of my family are brethren and so don't have a tv or radio on religious grounds.

If you are indeed in NE Scotland I'm surprised if you're not already aware of this."

Except I was aware and you see I was when you then quote me further down your patronising novel: "The only way is see is of you watched solely video tapes and didn't have the aerial plugged in" yep! I know people who've done this."
Also, why would i lie about being on NE Scotland? Confused

"Calling all of them "thick" is rude and narrow minded" totally agree!" Yep, except i didnt. I referenced joyful hippo who insinuated anyone who doesnt know a certain thing about tv licences are thick. MNHW deleted this and my comment back. I certainly didn't roll out the word "thick" on here. I have previously mentioned EE being "brain rot" which it is. So is Friends. I'm comfortable enough to admit that.

Whisky2014 · 03/06/2019 19:57

OP posts:
Whisky2014 · 03/06/2019 19:59

LarryGreysonsDoor Japan springs to mind first off.

Argh my phone battery is going to die

OP posts:
Whisky2014 · 03/06/2019 20:04

Managed to check it's Scandinavian countries and places like South Korea and Singapore that are the best.

"I'm allowed today I think it should be cancelled though." But you're basing that purely on your dislike of it.

""op caught!!" Caught from what? The fact that over a year ago I said I watched friends all day? How bizarre. A one off most likely hungover. It's not often I do that and I completely agree it's not high brow which is why i assume I was hungover watching it

. When have I said I never watch t.v.?! "

You've attempted throughout the thread to make out you're "better" than the majority of tv watchers, especially soap watchers with quite extreme comments about how little you watch as if you wanted a medal or something! Yes it's only one instance described but it's very telling and I for one am not buying that you're as infrequent a viewer as you claim.

"and we shouldn’t have to pay the nasty stealth tax that is the tv license" Misquoted.

I'm wondering if that's from one of the deleted posts as I'm pretty sure it's a direct quote

The video, not having a tv etc, I meant aware of the religious reasons some don't have tv.

You absolutely did use the word "thick" and I'm sure I'm not the only person who saw it.

You're being very aggressive and rude now. On a discussion about tv? How bizarre!

Whisky2014 · 03/06/2019 20:53

joyfullittlehippo yeh it was really good!

OP posts:
Whisky2014 · 03/06/2019 20:56

I'm allowed today I think it should be cancelled though." But you're basing that purely on your dislike of it. yeh, so?

I did use the word thick. I said if anyone was thick it would be EE watchers. That was after the joyous hippo said if anyone was thick it was people who didn't understand licences. Ie me. So hippo started it. ;)

No, I don't think I'm better than anyone, no I don't want a medal. I just think EE along with other soaps has had its day and maybe we could get something better.

gamerchick · 03/06/2019 21:07

Well as I've said before, it's a good job it's not up to you isn't it.

Whisky2014 · 03/06/2019 21:07

So why do you need to say it again?

OP posts:
gamerchick · 03/06/2019 21:08

Well you started the repeating yourself thing.....

Whisky2014 · 03/06/2019 21:10

When? If I have repeated it's because people are referencing what I say. Confused

OP posts:
Graphista · 03/06/2019 22:08

So hippo started it

Seriously? Are you 8?!!!!
