All have been vaccinated.

They were all at the same party 2 weeks ago .
He’s really poorly with it 😢

Da had a booster when he was about 15-16 ,I'm sure it was for menangitis though,I don't know if it was MMR booster as well.

dementedpixie · 22/05/2019 08:57

We don't have teen mmr booster. Used to be just men C but now it's men acwy

dementedpixie · 22/05/2019 08:57

Polio is included in an injection now so no sugar cubes!

greenelephantscarf · 22/05/2019 09:02

the live polio vaccine is still a liquid given on a sugar cube.
it's given in areas with frequent outbreaks.
in europe it's included in the infant vaccination schemes in the 5in1 or 6in1 injection

ladypete · 22/05/2019 09:32

It’s rubbish. I had all my vaccinations and caught it at 15 too. Perhaps a less severe version - I don’t know.

I hope they all feel better soon.

Why are Facebook Mummies more credible than medical experts?

Antivaxers are thick as pigshit basically. My little boy has lung disease any one of those diseases could easily kill him.

My local FB mums page is all "your bubba your rulez" it's bollocks. We aren't sending DS for his free 15 hours nursery in September because of this nonsense.

I think vaccinations should be mandatory.

LoafofSellotape · 22/05/2019 10:57

Ah right, so D's definitely had the MMR booster before starting school.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 22/05/2019 15:35

Just seen a few cases of mumps have been confirmed at a school in my town in NI.

TapasForTwo · 22/05/2019 16:45

I checked with our surgery today. As DD has had both MMR jabs they say she doesn't need a booster before going to university.

MissConductUS · 22/05/2019 16:54

As DD has had both MMR jabs they say she doesn't need a booster before going to university.

They say that because it's not on the official schedule, but "doesn't need" is different than "wouldn't benefit from".

One thing I learned here on MN that surprised me a bit is that each NHS surgery has a budget for prescriptions they write, which of course incentivizes them to write few and for less expensive drugs. I'm sure the same is true for vaccinations.

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 31/05/2019 21:25

Not sure if vaccines work? Neither do the manufacturers 😅😃

TeenTimesTwo · 31/05/2019 21:45

TheBreast Flu vaccine is a bit different though as it mutates every year and they make a 'best guess' as to which strains to include. I don't think that is the same as saying that manufacturers aren't sure whether vaccines work.

pointythings · 31/05/2019 21:49

The flu vaccine is definitely hit and miss. However, in 2018 both my DDs had the Aussie flu. I was vaccinated - NHS worker, I get it free. I didn't get it. Luck of the draw - maybe, but I helped my luck along a bit.

ListeningToTheBirds · 31/05/2019 21:59

OP here - name changed.
DS was very unwell for about 8 days.
He literally looked like the elephant man - his whole face was distorted but apart from being vvv tired he’s fine now.
He has a doctors appointment next week to talk about top up vaccinations (we have never been offered previously)

I do wonder if some kids are just more susceptible to childhood diseases.

As a result of contracting chickenpox when he was 5 he had to have an eye operation.
I don’t know.
Thankfully he & his friends seem to all be ok apart from a week of feeling crap

Mumps is a notifiable infectious disease.

I know this is a serious thread but I read that as Mumsnet is a notifiable infectious disease. It sure is.

OddBoots · 04/06/2019 07:57

MrsTerryPratchett, It certainly seems that way sometimes!! Grin
