Are there any conspiracy theories that you just think could have an element of truth?

I love all things conspiracy theory - from a psychological/social point of view it's interesting to see what makes people fearful or pessimistic.

But I often do see some conspiracy theories a bit like Urban legends in that they could be an exaggerated truth.

Are there any conspiracy theories or rumours that you just think 'maybe...' or even ones you're completely sold on.

hopes nobody thinks the Queen is a metamorphic lizard alien

handsoff this is a lighthearted thread I can comment on here as I please. You don't have to believe what I think.
May or may not be true but everyone here are talking about conspiracies.
You probably believe everything that is broadcast on the news.

It's been a few years since they have been all over the news but prior to that it was just one day everyone going about their business, then next day we hear about ISIS.
Last year they did awful things and it's broadcast everywhere, this year we have more knife crimes being broadcast on the news. Knife crime has always been on the rise for years but they chose now to broadcast all over the news. There was a time which I remember it was all over the news around 10years ago.

My family in Iraq barely have electricity running in their houses. With many families living in their houses torn down using curtains for privacy, and candles during the night.
Whether they are in Iraq or Syria, with how they have destroyed many parts of the country a lot of the telecoms are down. Are they living in mansions with their Iphones, charging all day, taking photos and posting it on the Internet.
A journalist will not make it out alive if they are visiting the so called ISIS posts.
3 years ago before it all turned into chaos they did not exist.

Some people believe that Dan Brown is a historianGrin

VoteJadot · 21/05/2019 09:38

It's not very fucking lighthearted to accuse grieving parents of the manslaughter of their three-year-old and denying her a decent burial.

longwayoff · 21/05/2019 09:45

Helping convince me about Dr Kelly is the complete silence from his family.

Ohfuckinghellwhatnow · 21/05/2019 09:46

Religion. I'm just gonna leave this here because I know so many folks will go absolutely batshit. I totally fail to get why anyone believes in any of it.

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll

Actually she had tried to commit suicide a few years earlier and had a known mental health issues. And I've spoken to an Indian nurse colleague who seemed to understand the gravity of the perceived shame and reasoning behind it.

Here's mine. A well known entertainer is accused of being involved in a Tree investigation.
The police had a (locked ) file on him at least ten years before it came to light. He's loved enough by Royals etc and even has gall to sue his accusers.
I always believe that the truth will come out one day.

Historydweeb · 21/05/2019 09:53

Apologiesfor the almost identical post, thought the first one hadn't gone up. Blush

Again, America helped the talibans fight against the soviet when they tookover Afghanistan. Now the Talibans are known as a big terrorist group.
Who else is America helping. They helped Saddam go into power. They helped him with the Iran Iraq war. They were allies. They knew he was evil.

Maybe have a look on US State-Sponsored terrorism if you haven't yet.

I'm not saying that what they are doing is good. Of course not I've lost family members including in Syria. What I'm saying is I believe it's funded by people who we are supposed to trust and have faith in to protect our countries from violence like this.

Before the Manchester bombing(Rip to those who were killed) the boy was apparently known by MI5, surely they could have stopped that we live in a world where technology is so advanced, MI5 will have more advanced tech that we may not know of. Same for the London Bridge incident. The guy was also known. It could have been prevented surely as he was under-investigation.

piefacedClique wayyyyy back on page 1 about Myra Hindley, I once read a very compelling piece about the idea of her death having been faked in the Guardian, was in the G2 years ago. Can’t find it now but it did get me thinking.

Also, no on that particular conspiracy theory, but this is a very interesting book surrounding the events of her reported death.

lilypoppet · 21/05/2019 10:19

We never went to the moon. No one believes we ever did, surely?

lilypoppet · 21/05/2019 10:21

The Twin Towers was an inside job. The American airforce did it. There is just so much evidence.

trudi33 · 21/05/2019 10:23

You are correct. The best BBC was the world service. The national news is poor mainly because they have limited choice of stories for 30 minutes and often get the choice wrong. Ironically local BBC news is often more informative.

ArDali1 · 21/05/2019 10:24

By the way to all who like watching videos about conspiracy theories, YouTube David Icke, if you don't know about him yet.

bebeboeuf · 21/05/2019 10:37

David Icke is full on the reptilian lizard new world order conspiracy.

You can get lost in a wormhole of scary craziness on his website

pepperpot99 · 21/05/2019 10:46

Blimey. Alex Jones and Infowars has got nothing on you folks. Welcome to fake news, desperate meddling as well as lashings of utter dimwitted bollocks. Hmm.

If the CIA went to the trouble of having planes hijacked to smash into the WTC towers, presumably to give a perceivable reason for their subsequently demolition with explosives (presumably because the plane crashes and fires weren't enough?), why would they blow up building 7 for no reason? Surely they would have known that would look suspicious? The CIA are a lot of things but I don't think stupid is one of them.

Firstimpressionsofearth · 21/05/2019 11:28

Sorry I'm well behind on the thread but -

There are no secret government labs working on cancer cures, and if there were, they'd have to involve a very small number of people to ensure secrecy, meaning they'd be behind the research conducted by thousands of other scientists around the world receiving hundreds of millions in funding every year. There would be no way to "cover up" advances. It's just not feasible.

They could just shut down projects or refuse to fund projects with the potential to find cures though.

I don't actually believe the cancer thing. If you wanted to reduce the population you would want to get rid of non working citizens. cancer stops people of working age working so it would make more sense to cure it quickly. If they really wanted to reduce the population they would start by making assisted dying legal.

Plus isn't it third world countries that would need population control not the west.

I do believe they are using contraception implants to halt population growth in third world countries.

ralfeesmum · 21/05/2019 11:29

The most crackpotty theory I ever came across was the one about The Duke of Edinburgh arranging Princess Diana's accident because the Queen didn't want her to marry Dodi Fayed........nuts or what?
