There's been a change of main topic from dog poo, to the repatriating of Christmas cards sent to the wrong address, sometimes many years after the addressee has moved house. It's like a walk down memory lane!

OP posts:
Diva1985 · 22/12/2018 06:47

Mine is full of posts about suspicious vehicles or people. Followed by 'Oh report it to 101' or 'better to be safe than sorry'

As a result insurance is high where I live as EVERYTHING is reported fron a stolen solar light, to a wheely bin or a suspisious person walking with a hoody on.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 22/12/2018 06:47

Multiple posts about white vans everywhere. It’s Christmas you twats, of course there’s white vans everywhere.

Exactly. I had this 'discussion' with someone multiple wallys on our fb group.

FB poster: White van with a man driving slowly down X road, be aware, probably best not to answer the door

Me: It's ok, he's the Amazon man.

FB poster: do you have any proof

Me: Well he's just delivered mine & ndn's Amazon parcels

Ndn: Yep can confirm he's Amazon bloke

2nd FB poster: better safe than sorry, it's not actual proof he works for Amazon

Me: well I signed for it & my tracking showed him correctly Hmm

Another FB poster: It still doesn't meam he's from Amazon, vans should always be treated as suspicious

Me: gives up...

I live in an area that was a village that joined up to a large town but still thinks like a village. Current hot topics:

  1. The controversial new zebra crossing and the ongoing tension about cars who don’t stop with some people making all sorts of excuses.
  2. There’s been a huge scandal relating to recent hygiene inspections of some popular local eateries.
  3. People getting het up about proposals for new houses
MeetOnTheSIedge · 22/12/2018 07:06

Santa run - people moaning because the helpers didn't knock at their door and they missed him. People moaning that they did knock at their door and woke their baby up/demanded money.

White vans driving around slowly looking into people's gardens. White vans being broken into overnight.

FrenchFancie · 22/12/2018 07:13

My local (small market town) one had the best series of posts recently. Woman with recently speyed cat still wearing come of shame increasingly worried about cat escaping her house. Several posts over a couple of hours. Final post saying ‘oh, sorry, found her she was stuck behind the sofa’ including a picture of the cat -still stuck behind the sofa!!

ForgotTheBastardElfAgain · 22/12/2018 07:25

The next Town not a village, but I did enter into an argument about what qualifies a zebra crossing with a group admin, who then turned off comments to prevent me being right.
There’s also some halted regeneration work that’s gone wrong and has spawned its own Facebook page... I didn’t join that one.

Our village is generally report of cars being broken in to and cctv images of people trying car doors during the night.

Missing dogs galore on both

Toomanycats99 · 22/12/2018 07:25

I live in town rather than village. Usually our local group is quite contentious but at the moment it's quiet. Main topic seems to be the large groups of teenagers who dick around on bikes doing wheelies towards oncoming cars etc.

General consensus is it's only a matter of time before one gets seriously hurt! I'm sure on that day it will definitely kick off between the serves him right for being an idiot / he's such a good boy never did anything wrong sides.

TheLastQueenOfPop · 22/12/2018 07:31

Cats.
"Cat found, looks well cared for"

"Cat found, looks well cared for but hungry so I fed it"

"Dead cat on x road"

After every single one, self appointed local "cat rescuer" will comment "has it been scanned, I can come now, I will pick it up and look after it" whether there's any indication of the cat actually being a lost cat or not.
She's very keen on recognition. There was a local competition for "volunteer of the year" or something and she nominated herself and kept posting her voting page. Except her spiel started "I collect dead cats..." making her seem a lot more sinister than she actually is.

EastMidsGPs · 22/12/2018 07:41

Fight outside the local last night 😱😱😱😱
We've already had the judgy ones on with their 'what is the place coming to' comments.
As yet, those involved haven't surfaced to post - but will, and if as I suspect it is the usual miscreants, a FB row will develop during the day, divided along family and extended family lines!.
Happy days Grin

JasperRising · 22/12/2018 07:43

Ours is quite full - mostly posts about events and highlights of what the local produce shop will be seeking that week. Comments did get a bit feisty when there was a link to consultation about possible development nearby - seemed to be a divide between those who no longer live in the area and think it would be terrible for it to change and those who grew up there but are being priced out of the area so would quite like some affordable housing/more social housing stock.

JasperRising · 22/12/2018 07:44

Gah. Ours is quite dull

BigBumandMumTum · 22/12/2018 07:48

Last week my local one was full of a lost dog with a big reward so everyone was looking for her

cece · 22/12/2018 07:55

We had a spate of youths pushing over front garden walls.

Dermymc · 22/12/2018 07:55

Ours is the most racist place...

Post "be aware those living on xx Road, just seen a black man in a tracksuit looking suspicious in a garden, moving the bins about"

Reply 1 "omg hun u OK?" etc

Reply 40 "erm you do realise that xx lives on that road, he is black and it is bin day" (xx is tagged in the post)

Post from xx "yep just me putting my bins out"

ShockShock

LilacDaisyChain · 22/12/2018 07:56

At the moment we have a young woman traveller who comes into houses uninvited singing Christmas carols.

Back in the summer during the heat wave, someone was outraged that the local Co-Op had run out of cucumbers and coleslaw. That post gets referred to as the great cucumber famine of 2018 😂

footballmum · 22/12/2018 08:06

A closed down pub has been bought by Wetherspoons, which has completely split the community. Half think it’s the work of the devil and we’ll have drunks staggering around in the middle of the afternoon. The other half think a Spoons Breakfast is the best thing ever Grin

We also have a woman who, about every 4 to 6 weeks posts the same post saying she is looking for a receptionist job. When people respond either with links to jobs they’ve seen advertised or pointing her towards agencies there’s always a multitude of reasons as to why they’re not suitable. Baffling!

CaptainCallisto · 22/12/2018 08:19

We currently have lots of arguing about when the bins/recycling are being collected over Christmas and New Year, in spite of the fact the council put little plastic tags on all the bins last week explaining it. People have even put pictures of the timetable in the comments and they're still arguing about it Grin

Makes a nice change from the dog poo/parking/litter/when is the fish and chip van coming/flooding posts!

wonkylegs · 22/12/2018 08:24

We've got 2 rival village FB pages - both tend to have exactly the same stuff posted just the people who set them up hate each other
We've got missing keys, dog poo, anti social kids, Christmas bin collections, planning applications and mis-delivered Christmas cards and everybody asking for the village taxi drivers number

Notso · 22/12/2018 08:31

Howling at the dead cat collector post!

LittleAlbatross · 22/12/2018 08:33

Ours has the normal stuff; dog poo, lost cats and dogs, parking, asking for recommendations for tradespeople etc. Occasionally complaints about "incomers" I.e. those that weren't born and bred in the village and live in the new build estate. It's a bit Royston Vasey here Grin

However, there was a bit of a drama a couple of months ago. Someone asked if the village's only hotel / restaurant was any good for food. Lots of people chimed in and said yes (mainly the born and bred bunch) but someone popped up and said they didn't find it that great when they visited. The poor person was berated massively, the owner of the hotel got involved and it devolved into a huge argument about whether or not people should be able to have opinions.

The really funny thing was that after about 100 comments the original poster who asked the question returned and said "Thanks all, one of our group wanted Chinese instead so we went for that." Grin

The hotel really isn't that great (think Fawlty towers) but a lot of people round here don't get out much.

LadyPasserine · 22/12/2018 08:42

The pearl clutching lady who stalks around photographing the extension work and new private house building projects for conformity with local planning regulations. A scarf covers most of her lower face and if challenged she jumps into her white saloon car and drives off like a getaway bank robber. It even has a private reg plate!

XmasHolly · 22/12/2018 08:48

Poster 1. Found a stray cat, can't keep it as my two don't like it.

  4. You are so lovely, poor stray cat, this time of year.

Poster 1. Well it was found outside # xx road.

Poster 5. That's where I live!

  1. He's wearing a collar!

Poster 2. Well, he's now in {town 10 miles away} when can YOU get there to get him back?

MrsDeltaB · 22/12/2018 08:58

@Deez. Pretty sure we ARE in the same village! Smile

CountessOfNowhere · 22/12/2018 09:58

We have a couple of wind-up merchants on ours. A few years ago there was a Netto opened just outside the village centre. Most of us loved it but a small number of people hated the idea of it in our naice village so much that it ended up in the national press: "local villagers stick up their own arses about Netto" type of thing. Netto then withdrew from the whole country and ours is now a Sainsburys.

There is currently a large empty retail property in the village. Every few weeks one of the wind-up merchants says "oh I've heard the old bank is going to be a pound shop" or similar. It's very much a light the touch paper and stand back type thing because certain people will get apoplectic about the idea every single time...

LoniceraJaponica · 22/12/2018 09:58

Our local Facebook page is brilliant and really helpful. Our village doesn’t have one, but the local market town does.

There are posts about Northern Rail (the weekly train strikes are affecting everyone massively round here), road closures, crime reports, missing animals, Christmas bin collections, school information, lost property, local events, requests for recommendations for taxi firms/tradesmen/takeaways etc, local news. It was so useful last winter because our area was very badly affected by snow.

It is a very useful resource, and any unpleasantness is shut down immediately by the moderators. It isn’t political at all, and I have never seen any bitchiness or slagging off on it. It has a positive community feel about it.
