Why is he so obnoxious? I have a real irrational dislike of him. Am I unreasonable?!?

Love you all. Yes yes yes to the 'CHOKLIT' in that awful factory programme.

A particular low point was on Pro Masterchef a couple of years ago when a contestant mentioned where he worked and Gregg said ' Oh yes I had one of my weddings there ' 🤮😱 like that's a perfectly normal thing to say! God alone knows what these young women see in him

kinseymilhone · 21/12/2018 09:00

"where he's in the Quality Street factory and pronounces chocolate CHOKLIT every 20 seconds!"

Ha ha!!! I noticed that too and had to call my DP into the room just to have someone to share my irritation with Grin. Who on earth says "Chocklit" except Gregg Wallace with a big cheesy grin on his smackable face??!!

BringMeTea · 21/12/2018 09:10

"Choclit" is my number 1 peeve with this gurning gormless greengrocer. No disrespect to greengrocers but how did flogging veg turn him into a telly staple? He is EVERYWHERE.

The costermonger. How I miss Sir Terry.

Meralia · 21/12/2018 09:28

I used to love masterchef in the 90s with Lloyd Grossman, the contenstants used to have a red, blue or yellow table that they put their dishes on to be judged, they dressed their tables to complement their food.

It’s shit now.

longwayoff · 21/12/2018 09:37

'I just opened my wallet and there she was'. Unattributed quote.

Numberonecook · 21/12/2018 09:37

Oh he’s a tosser! Sometimes I just like watching a cheap, foodie related, cheesy bit of tv but everything like that on the bbc has him presenting it!! I particularly dislike him on the the program where he tries to get their shopping bill down, if he sprang up on me in Aldi I’d smack him Grin

QueenDoria · 21/12/2018 09:38

Does anyone else think that Inside the Factory is just a longer version of Through the Arched Window on Playschool?

QueenDoria · 21/12/2018 09:39

Choklit choklit choklit

longwayoff · 21/12/2018 09:39

Ha! My mum used to call the Queen Mum, the costermonger's wife, on account of her voluminous hats.

CaMePlaitPas · 21/12/2018 09:54

Bloody hate him, every time I see him on TV I turn it over.

NotCitrus · 21/12/2018 10:43

Friend of mine used to work for him. 'Horrible man' was probably her most printable comment.

(though who pronounces chocolate other than chock-lit?)

Cattenberg · 21/12/2018 11:02

That is a LAVVERLY plata food!

I've never understood why a greengrocer was chosen to judge professional chefs, but you can't blame him for going for it, I suppose.

I'm a bit alarmed by Gregg's sexual fantasies involving puddings. "I could just snog it!" "I'd could just take off my clothes and dive into it." "I'm not saying I'd marry it, but I'd take it away for a dirty weekend." Now I'm picturing Gregg in a hotel room surrounded by puddings.

doctorboo · 21/12/2018 11:11

@Cattenberg I laughed so loudly I made the cat jump! Your comment has made my day.

longwayoff · 21/12/2018 11:26

Well if he's the bbc 'pleb-comforter in chief' how is it he's not a bit more, well, likable? I expect he has redeeming features but he just makes me want to leave the room. Surely they could find plenty of chirpy cheeky chappies who'd be happy to eat free for the rest of their lives and be less, er, quirky and wearing on the nerves.

OutragedERIC · 21/12/2018 11:36

derxa

I must say I enjoyed his factory programmes. I think he is genuinely interested in how things are made

I’ve met him whilst filming one of the factory programmes. He’s really not, sorry. He couldn’t be less interested if he tried.

He does ‘switch it on’ very well when the cameras start rolling though, I’ll say that for him, and tends to get the best out of the people he’s talking to. When the cameras are off though, he’s a rude tosser.

CocoLoco87 · 21/12/2018 11:40

ShowOfHands

I can't bear it when people are rude about celebrities on here....

But Gregg Wallace is a jumped up, fat headed barrow boy and the sight of him fellating a spoon of tiramisu is enough to dampen the ardour of the entire nation.

THIS!!
I don't usually like reading mean comments about celebrities who half of us have never met. But, there is something so slimey about him! And the way he eats like a child, and his gurning face.

QueenDoria · 21/12/2018 11:40

That’s interesting. I thought he was acting - I was right! And the poor people he was conversing with looked like they would need counselling after those fake smiles they had to give him, and then trying v v hard to make eye contact with him.
Give em all a promotion!!

Jsmith99 · 21/12/2018 11:46

He’s awful. I have no idea why the Beeb keep on employing him. Presumably because he ticks the ‘not posh’ box on their diversity checklist.....

mrsgregorypeck · 21/12/2018 11:50

I can’t believe that no one has mentioned his astonishing resemblance to Buzz Liightyear. They are clearly twins separated at birth.

I like Buzz Lightyear, though. Lovely guy, unlike his brother.

BringMeTea · 21/12/2018 13:43

I am sooo happy MNHQ have not yet deleted this as 'not in the spirit'. Cos it's all TRUE. Xmas Smile

BehemothPullsThePeasantsPlough · 21/12/2018 13:46

I can’t think of anything more in the spirit of MN than slagging off Gregg Wallace. Apart, possibly, from slagging off Peter Andre.

longwayoff · 21/12/2018 14:01

Peter Andre doesn't work for the bbc and haunt all its food programmes so have no complaint about him. Wouldn't know him from Adam which is how I like my zlebs.

MorningsEleven · 21/12/2018 14:30

Did you know that Peter Andre really loves his kids?

TheChineseChicken · 21/12/2018 15:51

This is one of the best threads I have read in a while. Thank you all
