Have you ever gone off a celebrity because of something they've done?

I used to really like Ewan McGregor until he had an affair.

Same with Robson Green in the 90s.

I loved Michael Moriarty (still do) but he's become a huge loony and an old soak.

Liked Ant McPartlin before the drink driving and infidelity.

Have you ever liked a celeb and then gone off them because of something they've said or done? Does it just prove that celebs are human like the rest of us?

This thread has been getting me down so I thought I'd add a nice one.

I had always thought that Naomi Campbell would be hard work/a right stroppy mare, but a friend met her while she was working and said she was lovely and gave great advice to her daughter who was an aspiring model.

The less well known models wouldn't even acknowledge my friend's presence.

There are some good eggs out there.

Someone mentioned Paul Simon but didn’t say why. The only thing I can think of is the “domestic violence” dust-up with his wife - she started it, he called 911, & they both ended up in court for ‘disorderly behaviour’ but holding hands.

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/10793952/Paul-Simon-and-wife-hold-hands-in-court-on-domestic-violence-charges.html

The only other thing that it might be is his recording Graceland in South Africa during apartheid? (even though he was working with black musicians) The ANC criticised him for it

(He can do no wrong for me btw Smile)

Clawdy · 22/11/2018 18:35

Paul Simon can do no wrong for me either.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 22/11/2018 19:25

Paul Simon slept on my dad’s bedroom floor in the early 60s after he played at the student union. My dad was ents officer , said Paul was v canny.

longwayoff · 22/11/2018 23:00

And me, please don't tell me Paul Simon belongs on here, leave us some illusions. Can we allow a little latitude for acknowledged geniuses? No, bad idea.

treaclesoda · 23/11/2018 06:57

I've just seen a clip of Rowan Atkinson on the Graham Norton show saying that he finds it really annoying when people just stare at him and they'd rather they spoke to him and said 'are you Mr Bean' or whatever.

And all I could think was that, even before reading this thread, I had only ever heard Bad Things about what happens to anyone who has the audacity to approach him in public and speak to him. He's been legendary for years for his tantrums. How dishonest.

trumptrump · 23/11/2018 10:24

Robbie Williams told my friend to fuck off.

My friend was in a hotel and saw Robbie in the bar. He went up and asked Robbie for his autograph (this was pre-mobile phones). Robbie said: "fuck off, are you gay or something?" My friend was just 16 at the time and really hurt. He can see the funny side now though.

I'd forgotten this but when a cricketer came home early with mental health problems a load of commenters were saying things like "don't see why he came home, he's not depressed". In a very non aggresive way I tweeted that depression isn't the only MH condition that can cause problems. I can't remember exactly but I was polite and friendly. They all blocked me. Gits.

SheStoodInTheStorm · 25/11/2018 09:49

Didn't know about a lot of these!

Flicking through the music channels this morning and RHCP were on. Love the song and left it on but after about 15 seconds I just couldn't and have to turn it over Confused

UnlawfulBananaPeeler · 26/11/2018 17:37

Ru Paul after advocating for LGBT for years and then coming out to say that he wouldn’t consider a trans person for his show.
There’s also lots going round about how he’s rude/tantrums/genuinely horrible to Ben around.

Emma Watson after DP told me he saw a little girl ask for her autograph at Glasto and she scoffed and said no.

Jonny Depp clearly.

I used to like Gino DeCampo but now there’s something off I just can’t place and now I can’t watch anything with him in without getting the willies

MrsJayy · 26/11/2018 18:03

Tbf to Rupaul transactivists have been very dismissive of drag queens I don't blame him for saying he wouldn't have a trans person on dragrace.

Bunnymumma · 26/11/2018 18:20

Alexander Skarsgaard, for dating Alexa Chung! Sounds so silly but anyone that is in the public eye and denies a clear eating disorder is, in my book, unforgivable. So her and Alex can naff off now.

ladydickisathingapparently · 26/11/2018 18:26

Unlawful Gino doesn’t speak anything like the cheeky Italian TV personality in real life. Maybe that’s what you’ve picked up on.

Thirtyrock39 · 26/11/2018 18:50

On a more minor scale I went off the arctic monkeys when read that they're all married to models and live in LA - found it a bit of a disappointing cliche

I love Alison Pearson's books but her political views and pro Brexit views differ from my own

FromEden · 26/11/2018 19:16

Ru Paul after advocating for LGBT for years and then coming out to say that he wouldn’t consider a trans person for his show.

He said it's because if someone is taking hormones and has perhaps had facial surgery etc they would have an unfair advantage. Also given that the show is about men dressing up as women, I'm not sure why a male who identifies as a woman would want to be on it? Surely then all women would have to be allowed on also which defeats the whole point of the show.

MnerXX · 26/11/2018 20:05

Definitely Jonny depp - I really want to watch the new fantastic beasts but can’t bear the thought of him getting a penny!

Shocked by mark wahlberg. Absolutely disgusting.

Gone off Adam hill/last leg after he pestered jo brand on the show to talk about her experiences of unreasonable demands, she mentions that a man asked for a kiss, she gives in but the man grabbed her head and forced his tongue into her mouth. Gross! AH just completely dismissed her and starts talking about something else! I was really mad. He’d asked her to talk about it!!! I haven’t watched it since. I love jo brand.

fireworkbang · 26/11/2018 21:26

Adam Hills is a perfect example of how a man can try and be as woke as possible but his patriarchal brain will still peep out now and then and show his true colours.

LuckyDiamond · 26/11/2018 21:29

After initially quite liking Adam Hills, I saw through him a few years back. Now he totally gets on my nellies.

MnerXX · 26/11/2018 21:42

I was surprised Jo Brand let him get away with it. It wouldn’t have taken much to have made him look even more of a total prat than he already came across.

TheWiseWomansFear · 26/11/2018 21:44

Cheryl Cole when I was a young teen... until she brutally assaulted a bathroom attendant and claimed it wasn't racial

UnlawfulBananaPeeler · 26/11/2018 22:03

I suppose in some sense I get why he might not consider a trans person over a drag queen but it doesn’t excuse his behaviour in terms of being all ‘mamma ru and we’re a family’ on screen to actually being awful off screen. Constestants like Pearl and Willem have both come out about Ru being awful and fake.

ladydick Could be that. I don’t know he’s just got a real heir of something off about him.

KitchenDancefloor · 26/11/2018 23:02

Talking of 'woke' men - count Russell Howard among them.

He did an awful skit about how we need to raise awareness of the number of girls self-harming (fine). Then got his lols by likening someone with anorexia to a xylophone and how he personally finds that unattractive. Idiot.

I personally find cross-eyed, masterbation-obsessed, misogynists unattractive. Doesn't mean I'm going to go on TV and expect everyone to agree with me. Oh no.

That's what MN is for 😉

MsTSwift · 27/11/2018 08:03

I like the story of Annie Lennox - she was grocery shopping and a fan approached her “excuse me are you Annie Lennox?” She smiled and said “not today”

MrsJayy · 27/11/2018 09:16

Russel Howard makes my skin crawl and my eyes roll out of my head

SummerGems · 27/11/2018 09:24

Someone I know served Michael Parkinson in their local M&S and he was a ginormous arsehole with a sense of self entitlement. Apparently though his wife is lovely.

I met Rupert Evert on a train and he was lovely.
