Seriously tacky and grim...

Inspired by a thread about hygiene - carpets in kitchens and toilets, I thought it could be interesting to recall some of the diabolical tat from the past.

@grumpy that's the table I was talking about upthread! I still have it. the tiles on mine are almost identical, but more blues and greens. I seriously love it!

elephantoverthehill · 15/08/2018 23:54

@KeepServingtTheDrinks that post was not a PM, unless you intended it not to be?

DameSquashalot · 15/08/2018 23:54

ALongHardWinter I reckon my mum and dad will still.have some of the striped bedding in their airing cupboard. I will have to investigate on my next visit.

TornFromTheInside · 15/08/2018 23:56

KeepServingTheDrinks has long gone... she's legging it 3 miles down the road as we speak!

I've asked MN to take it down!

holidaylady · 16/08/2018 00:01

Chicaboo yes we had these
And a snugglebum, they sounded exactly like a guinea pig!

Was actually thinking of getting a soda stream, think it's a great idea and I remember the weak dodgy cola from my childhood. Gotta pass that on to the next generation.

I got a massive teak 'nathan' sideboard GPlan thing free from gumtree. It's now housing all my gardening stuff in the shed. It's so solid I think it will outlast the shed

elephantoverthehill · 16/08/2018 00:02

Well it all goes to show that back in '70s land you could intercept the postman before he delivered that cringey, badly thought out love letter by stalking the postman.

holidaylady · 16/08/2018 00:03

Oh and for you heathens that don't like GPlan it's actually called 'mid century furniture' I'll have you know

AornisHades · 16/08/2018 00:12

Ah this thread is every house I knew in my childhood...

I have a whole stack of brushed cotton candy stripe (and green stripe) sheets saved from my Gran's house and I have a couple of bits of my Nan's mantlepiece brass :)

Claw001 · 16/08/2018 00:21

Grin at mortified non stalker!

TornFromTheInside · 16/08/2018 00:22

Sayin' nothing

I've wet myself. There are no words to say in that situation

SilentBob · 16/08/2018 00:32

I love this thread!

So many memories!

KeepServingTheDrinks · 16/08/2018 00:32

Fuck you, Torn!

I'll own my sad posts which I thought were PMs with pride. Don't ask MN to take it down, it's a good lesson to other posters on the Evils of Drink and Being Generally Crap With Technology In Any Case.

It's a bit later than the thread was aimed at, but having arrived early on here (and without my pineapple thing having been delivered as requested by MNHQ), but I want to play, so I'm going to talk about my aunt's house. My aunt was 10 years older than my mum (one born pre and one born post war), and so my cousins were older than me. They were VERY sophis... they had duvets (OMG!!!) when we only had sheets and blankets and they also had this:

OMG! I WANTED one of those (even more than I wanted Torn to know who I am!) [really hope the link works, or I REALLY will have to slope off and kill myself!]

Seriously tacky and grim...
LogicMakesSense · 16/08/2018 00:35

So many amazing things on this thread! Might have been a bit later but my addition is these beauts, my parents used to have a whole wall of them!

Seriously tacky and grim...
KeepServingTheDrinks · 16/08/2018 00:35

No, I didn't do it on purpose. I really did think I was PM'ing the OP.

Hey... I'm old enough to roll with the punches.

TornFromTheInside · 16/08/2018 00:36

This has all gone a bit bonkers! I think I need a drink

My grandmother had that lighter with the green onex stone.

And my grandfather (on the other side) had an ashtray on a stand which you could handily move from one armchair to the next.

Sadly, they both died relatively young. I can't think why?

KeepServingTheDrinks · 16/08/2018 00:51

For a very little while, back in the 1970s, we actually had a computer in the house! (dad brought it at great expense for his company). We played space invaders and this driving game, which was all done on words(?). The driving game used to flash up messages like "will someone tell this woman driver to stop using her gears".

Ah, the 1970s!

KeepServingTheDrinks · 16/08/2018 00:52

Claw001 have we decided I'm an ACTUAL stalker playing it down?

TornFromTheInside · 16/08/2018 00:53

Sadly, they both died relatively young. I can't think why?

Static shocks off nylon carper
Gallons of Cinzano and Advocaat
High blood pressure staring at flock wallpaper
The shock of the bloody teasmade at 100db
The second shock of walking into a sky blue bathroom first thing in a morning
The third shock of realising you're standing on a piss soaked pedestal mat

Oh and the fags?

;-)

If I go missing the next few days - you all know where to look!
KeepServingTheDrink's patio - probably covered up with a floral rug
