Inspired by a thread about hygiene - carpets in kitchens and toilets, I thought it could be interesting to recall some of the diabolical tat from the past.

These fabulous things. Gran used to warm up fizzy lemonade and dish it up in these glasses for supper.

Ah, dental care in the 70s!

We had beaten copper wallpaper. Looked vair swish (in the 80s) but the bastard thing would arc off the light switch and give you a small shock every time you turned The Big Light on or off.

PanPanPanPing · 15/08/2018 18:37

IllHaveALargeGlassOfRed, OMG, we had some of those as well - what in god's name was my mother thinking of?!?!

Vitalogy · 15/08/2018 18:38

I remember playing scraps - loved them. No-one else apart from my Scottish friends remembers these, are you Scottish by any chance?

IllHaveALargeGlassOfRed · 15/08/2018 19:48

Indeed I am @GetoutofthatGarden

Playing scraps. I tried to find a non Scottish term but nope, scraps is what they are!

TornFromTheInside · 15/08/2018 19:51

Beaten Copper in Manchester usually means a poor policeman involved in a scuffle!

Right @GetoutofthatGarden maybe you can me with this query!

Early to mid 80s clothing. Something we called a "smoothy jacket" which you got in the local markets/cheap shops. Mine was a pale grey with a contrasting blue collar. They were hip length, slight elasticated waist, semi shiny material and a wee bit puffy.

Maybe it was only a Dundee thing from Lorne St Market!

TornFromTheInside · 15/08/2018 20:01

It wasn't just a Dundee thing
It was just you!

I'm beginning to think so Torn! My Dundonian DH doesn't have a clue what I'm talking about 🤨

Ice blue stay-prest, smoothy jacket, Y-Cardiff and smoothy shoes. Giving it laldy at the skool disco 😀

IllHaveALargeGlassOfRed · 15/08/2018 20:19
