My sibling is a celebrity AMA

I recently spoke to a friend about it who
had lots of questions which lead to an interesting conversation, things I’d never said or thought about before.

When I was younger I used to feel incredibly jealous of them and had a very short and unsuccessful attempt at creating my own fame.

Now I’m older with my own dc and have seen the effects up close I definitely think the negatives out way the positives and it’s not something I would ever want for my children.

Since you're being a bit snotty about people not knowing what it is - actually, it's not just a Mumsnet abbreviation, it originated or at least was made popular on Reddit first, way before it became a thing on MN.

And part of people's confusion it seems, going by at least one previous post on this thread, is that the OP didn't put a comma between 'celebrity' and 'AMA' in the title, so some people thought the OP was referring to a 'celebrity AMA' and didn't know what that was.

I said it was a Mumsnet abbreviation. It is. I was online when the first AMA thread appeared and people liked the idea, asked MNHQ to start a whole topic for it, and they did. Therefore one would presume, like many other MN acronyms, users would know what it meant.

Besides if it is used on Reddit, clearly the confused pp didn't know the meaning of it from there either.

My point is that technically it's not a Mumsnet abbreviation. Just because it is used on here doesn't make it a MN abbreviation. It is a Reddit concept and abbreviation that became so popular that people used the concept on Mumsnet and other places; the abbreviation exists outside of Mumsnet.

Of course you are not responsible for others' confusion but you could not scoff at them for it.

Well I would not have known this because I have never been on Reddit and never will be. And so @bitontheobtuse response would be relevant to me and maybe to @dcthatsmewho asked the original question and to other MNetters. But thank you for your historical knowledge and input. I do mean that sincerely because it is relevant.

It's an internet acronym. Originating on Reddit with the Ask Me Anything sub in 2009, 9 years before the AMA board was set up on MN.

I was being pedantic with @bitontheobtuse because they got snarky at people not understanding and said how hard could it be. But tbh it's also a bit irritating that some people can be so MN-centric in a somewhat congratulatory way that they think many acronyms were invented here. AIBU is very specific to MN, but most of the other abbreviations precede use on MN, including DD, DS, DH etc.

I don't know why people are so sure it's Sophie. OP describes her sibling as good looking, wealthy, successful, and high achieving. None of those words remotely describe KP.

Why guess? If I saw Amanda Holden, Pete’s wife, this Gaffney chap others have mentioned and to be honest all of the names that have been suggested, except for Katie Price, I wouldn’t recognise them. Never heard of them.

Correction, I have heard of Amanda Holden of course, never watched her on TV though, but isn’t she a B list celebrity.

She only has one sister, no other siblings.

have you just ever wished you had a “”normal non fame” sister /brother. Someone you could do things with and enjoy together. ? Do you miss the relationship you could have had with them ?
one of my school buddies is famous and at times I wish she wasn’t. I am so pleased for her but I so miss our previous relationship and I know she does too.

Of course she's good looking. She literally made a living off her looks. Of course she's successful and high acheiving. In her best years she was clearly incredibly savvy and knew how to work the media and sell what she had. How many glamour models could you even name never mind attribute anywhere near the same amount of fame and money? I neither love nor loathe KP and it's clear that she has a lot of issues. I guess success and looks are both very subjective but I think you could definitely argue that KP has been both in her prime and I would expect a sibling to be more biased than most about this...
