My sibling is a celebrity AMA

I won’t be saying who they are.

I recently spoke to a friend about it who
had lots of questions which lead to an interesting conversation, things I’d never said or thought about before.

When I was younger I used to feel incredibly jealous of them and had a very short and unsuccessful attempt at creating my own fame.

Now I’m older with my own dc and have seen the effects up close I definitely think the negatives out way the positives and it’s not something I would ever want for my children.

AMA

Do they have a tattle thread?

WhyReindeer · 16/08/2026 19:12

@zedtree I have two questions one about jealousy and one about risks of fame:

How old were you when they became famous and do you think that "stunted" your development/affected your mental health from that age? Or to put it another way, if you had the power to adjust the age you were when they became famous would you have made it older?

I'm thinking that having a famous and successful sibling is likely (as you have said) to make a younger sibling envious in many ways and affect them fundatmentally - every room you go into with them, you would be seen as 'lesser', no one would really be interested in you - except as a way to get to them or you would be fearing that at all times, your own work and life would seen poor in comparision to their wealth and fame and so on. Do you think that most siblings of very famous people are jealous of them? Do you think it is it built in to that relationship and inevitable?

My other question is do you ever worry that your sibling being in the public eye could be the subject of a major media/social media attack because of something they said or did and be cancelled in a way that would break them mentally? I'm thinking of situations like Phillip Scofield, Caroline Flack, Jason Arday.

Imdunfer · 16/08/2026 19:13

Have they ever had a stalker?

For the thread Private Dicks please note that both male and female TV personalities have had stalkers convicted.

MNLurker1345 · 16/08/2026 19:08

New? Ask Me Anything.

Thanks that's what I thought! I didn't know it was such a thing - I mean to be famous for being an AMA. Not on mumsnet surely? Is she on instagram or TikTok?

shuggles · 16/08/2026 19:18

zedtree · 16/08/2026 18:56

A celebrity is basically just another word for someone who is famous / well known. They are definitely considered a celebrity and considered famous. I can’t say you would definately know but the majority of people in the uk would know their name.

Rubbish.

Joliefolie · 16/08/2026 19:22

zedtree · 16/08/2026 19:08

Yes but I guess that would happen in private, it’s just magnified because it’s in public. It’s not a nice feeling to be embarrassed by someone you love or for someone you love to be embarrassed by you so I do try to keep those feelings down and not use those words to them.

Thank you for answering my question. You say you try to swerve the (sadly inevitable) nasty comments from the public about your sibling. Have you seen (random speculation because of course the public don't know you) nasty comments about you and/or your parents as a consequence? You said you had that therapy for another reason but of course the "famous sibling" issue came up a lot. What do you think therapy taught you most about yourself over and beyond the issue that you went there to seek help with?

ExpressCheckout · 16/08/2026 19:25

Does your sibling shorten their name professionally - e.g. Rob for Robert, Cat for Catherine, Max for Maxine?

There's no such this as being an AMA. OP means ask her anything about being the sibling of a famous person.

MNLurker1345 · 16/08/2026 19:29

shuggles · 16/08/2026 19:18

Rubbish.

Why do you say that? I am not into celebrity for celebrity sake but if we access the wide culture of media, entertainment and the arts we all have to acknowledge that for some the result is fame, recognition and sometimes fortune.

I would never be able to be famous, I really could not handle it, but many can and many would like to.

You may not appreciate the topic of @zedtree thread, but to discount her subjective experience and the information she is sharing as “rubbish” is strange.

adverteasing · 16/08/2026 19:29

Have you ever come across them being discussed on mn? I think id find that very weird.

idealtimefailings · 16/08/2026 19:43

Are you Katie Prices sister Sophie? If you are Sophie, you’re a brilliant sister.

I really hope people don’t ruin this interesting topic by just trying to ‘catch the OP out’ and find out who their sibling is.

To be fair, I think most of us have worked out who it is!

Calliopespa · 16/08/2026 20:01

It's interesting Op as your thread is presented as a service to the curious on MN, but underneath I feel I detect a sense of you wanting an anonymous outlet to reassure yourself you are really happy about your lot and the different paths you have taken.

There isn't much you have to say that is positive about their life, other than maybe a few financial perks. It feels a bit like a chance for you to denigrate their path in life ... Would you say this is something you feel the need to do?

(FWIW I would hate to be a celebrity, so I don't disagree with your comments about it, just find it interesting you felt the need to probe this negative stuff online.)

Oh have we? I've skipped a few posts and maybe missed that ... What page do I go back to?!😂

BeanQuisine · 16/08/2026 20:02

I have received a communication, reputedly from the real celebrity alluded to by the OP. I may as well post it here, for the record.

To (OP's real name), I really do feel so sad that you are reduced to this. There was a time when we were best mates, an explosive little duo - you were so good on the kazoo - and more than happy to take on the world together.

Then you got involved with little (name) from the City, stinky little slater bug of zero charm, and out to harm. We parted ways, and spent our days pursuing very different dreams.

We parted ways, and spent our days pursuing very different dreams

Now you are out to try to feed off me on MOTHER'S NET, of all places.

Don't bother trying to contact me again, signed (the actual celebrity).

No, I don’t feel the need to do that.

People haven’t asked positive questions, I could say many positive things about them and their life but overall I have witnesses a more negative side the fame and most people don’t witness that up close and so some are interested by it.

Yes, it’s weird but not any weirder than any other social media site really and I try not to read it.

Well I'm more interested in the positive actually - cos I really can't see what it would be. Any examples?

No, I don’t generally mention thread I’ve made talking about people anonymously online to them.

So you haven’t mentioned fact that you have basically spent a good part of the last 24 hours posting about her? When you’ve been messaging with her today.

I wonder why? Could it be that you know full well she wouldn’t be happy. At all.

How many times have you started threads about people @zedtree ?!

'AMA' is Mumsnet abbreviation for Ask Me Anything, and is the name of an entire topic board on here for anybody to use. As in:
I'm a vicar and have to work every Christmas Day, AMA'.

How hard can it be?

No, I know them and this wouldn’t affect them. They know they can trust me and that I wouldn’t betray that trust, I’m confident that I haven’t.

A few, my dc, parents, neighbours, teachers, strangers… isn’t that the point of Mumsnet? You’ve never spoken about anyone you know on here?
