My sibling is a celebrity AMA

I won’t be saying who they are.

I recently spoke to a friend about it who
had lots of questions which lead to an interesting conversation, things I’d never said or thought about before.

When I was younger I used to feel incredibly jealous of them and had a very short and unsuccessful attempt at creating my own fame.

Now I’m older with my own dc and have seen the effects up close I definitely think the negatives out way the positives and it’s not something I would ever want for my children.

Why is it hard to ask? That really says more about your limitation to be honest .. no one else on here says who they are or who anyone else they’re referring to is … what is it about fame that makes you feel you need to know who the person is? Weird tbh

It’s not been one of the main issues, we never really talk about that. They haven’t necessarily helped me financially but they’ve done things like pay for trips etc. I do but it doesn’t really bother me that much anymore, I enjoy my job and live comfortably enough, I don’t really like the flash and have seen the negatives to having money.

I think social media is harder because you see and hear the response from the public whereas magazines/papers you would just see the headline. The press can be nasty but the pubic are worse, nobody would say the things in real life that they say on social media. It’s also harder for me to avoid things even when positive, I just would never buy a magazine with my sibling in but things come up on my phone and I do end up looking sometimes. And yes some people do.

This and the responses did make me laugh.

They would say they do, there’s ones I don’t really trust but I don’t know any of them well enough to really say. They’ve had friends before that I liked and trusted who turned out to not be genuine.

Most "celebrities" are not actually celebrities as they are quite literally people who simply try to be famous for being famous. I guarantee I would have no idea who this person is if they were named, and most people would be the same.

Has your siblings children followed or wanting to follow in the footsteps of their parent?

I’ve read a few articles where people who have won money on the Lottery are suddenly deluged with begging letters from complete strangers - or hassled by friends and relatives to underwrite business ideas - what kind of a complete idiot does that? So, along those lines, I do wonder whether the celeb concerned gets begging letters (maybe routed via yourself?).

They didn’t necessarily become famous from doing reality tv, they’ve just done reality tv also. I don’t enjoy watching them, it definitely makes people think they know someone and are owed something by them and can be as unkind as they like, it also makes you very vulnerable and messes with their ability to have a private life.

A celebrity is basically just another word for someone who is famous / well known. They are definitely considered a celebrity and considered famous. I can’t say you would definately know but the majority of people in the uk would know their name.

I am talking to my 15 year old DGD about fame and just what you say above.

Have you and your sibling spoken about this? Does your sibling feel that they owe the public any thing more than the job they do?

Yes we’ve spoken about it and yes they do but it’s also benefited them in lots of ways so they have wanted to give more. Not hugely, in some ways they are but it’s also just a bit too late. Once you’ve let people in, it’s really hard to get them back out.

Yes but I guess that would happen in private, it’s just magnified because it’s in public. It’s not a nice feeling to be embarrassed by someone you love or for someone you love to be embarrassed by you so I do try to keep those feelings down and not use those words to them.
