Thanks, that’s interesting. We often have people crossing the road to avoid us which is totally their choice. We have occasionally had people scream and run away which seemed a bit odd … what does Islam say about animals?

Kindness to animals is highlighted in many narrations.

That's awful, is that sharia law?

No.

@BaMamma are you here to learn to or try and find an angle ?

Do you have days where you don't think about religion, the Quran and being muslim and just live your day, or do you think about it all the time?

What do you think of someone who values science and technology over religion?

What about my question please?

WhoevenamIinlife · 23/02/2025 02:08

BaMamma · 23/02/2025 01:54

I'm sorry to hear you experienced discrimination wearing the veil, but a little confused you called it racism as you didn't change race, the veil covered your face, and Islam isn't a race.

Thankyou, what do you suggest I call it ?

What about my question please?

religion is part of my daily life - praying 5 daily prayers - not eating certain things being a good person. I can't not think about religion it's who I am.

science and technology is fascinating - each to their own. I'm on my journey and everyone else is on their own journey.

I do all that stuff daily too but I do it of my own accord, not because a religion tells me to.

I have had the same reaction in our local community when walking our dog (a very calm/ non-threatening fluff ball of a thing). I thought I had been told that dogs saliva is impure in Islam, but since OP hasn't come across any religious issues with dogs I am now doubting my memory on this one.

To be fair we have also experienced a similar reaction from a lot of our neighbours with African heritage too with extreme avoidance methods, so I wonder if maybe they have spent a lot of time in countries with wild/ free roaming dog populations? I had a few close encounters with packs of wild dogs when travelling, and some were frankly quite terrifying. Particularly for those who have recently emigrated I imagine it would make the possibility they have had past negative experiences with dogs a lot higher.

tellmesomethingtrue · 23/02/2025 02:21

A dog's saliva isn't impure just in islam... dog saliva is gross full stop.

Discrimination, as I did.

I’m asking questions out of curiosity, isn’t that what you wanted?

Apologies if I’ve misunderstood.

Yes but you asked if I go a day without thinking about religion. I said no and told you why. I work around the daily prayer timings. I check food offered to me, when I buy food out and about if it meets dietary conditions. I remind myself of religion when I need to be more patient etc. religion guides ME.

Yes it is but that doesn't stop many Muslims from owning dogs. Cleanliness is next to godliness hence the importance of being clean before offering prayers etc.

Did you grow up in a Muslim household or convert? If the latter, what drew you to Islam?

if you read my posts like I have yours you'd know if answered it. I'm sure I posted the answer on the thread you started earlier too about Islamophobia. In fact you are the one who inspired me to start this thread.

Of course you don’t have to answer here, but it’s hardy a gotcha question, and I’m on my phone so it’s a faff to go back through threads to check your bio.

I just keep clean because it's nice to be clean. I find it strange that people need a 'religion' to tell them to 'be good' and 'take a shower' and ' consider what you eat' and 'be kind to animals'
If you didn't have religion, would you not do all these things then?

tellmesomethingtrue · 23/02/2025 02:53

Do Muslims cover their hair and faces when at home or your siblings/parents house chilling out? What if you get hot?

From what I understand Muslim women don’t have to cover up in female only spaces.
