Married, two kids, stay at home mother and functioning alcoholic. Both my kids are happily playing with toys in front of me while I sip on my second vodka and sprite and wrap gifts for nieces birthday tomorrow

Get help you owe it to yourself and your children

HappyMe6 · 26/01/2025 18:06

No matter what anyone says on here. An addict can only recover if they really want to do it. Not easy but you have made your first step by admitting you have a problem. Now take the second step and get help. Good luck x

Take a look at The Sinclair Method. It’s a charity organisation, completely anonymous. You do still need to put the work in too but it has a huge success rate compared to AA. Good luck. ❤️

Hey, child of an alcoholic here. It's never as big of a secret as yall think it is. I smelled it on my parent. I knew something was off, I didn't have the language, but I knew. Get yourself some help.

Staying at home to care for anyone, be that elderly parents or children, is a very lonely never ending job and harder than going into an office. Also a lot of times people drink out of boredom. But believe me, things will look so much better and be easier if you just stop. I did. Life is still boring but at least it’s boring without feeling like I’m going to vomit

Thethingswedoforlove · 27/01/2025 13:10

Do you drink and drive?

Thethingswedoforlove · 27/01/2025 13:12

Btw huge kudos to you for taking the first step towards seeking help. That can’t have been easy and shows what a strong person you can be. You will need that strength but in the end it will be so so worth it. And you will be so so pleased you started this thread if it pushes you towards a different life.

Thank you. I missed it. Apologies. I totally hate it when people don’t read the whole thread and now clearly I am guilty of that (unwittingly). Thank you for pointing it out.

Lots of people are telling you horror stories about the harm you’re doing to your health OP. When I was drinking that absolutely terrified me and the anxiety made me want to drink more, because I had already ruined my life and doomed myself to liver failure so why stop.

i have been sober for over five years and I’ve just had a couple of liver scans following complications in pregnancy and it looks like my liver is fine.

I’m not saying that drinking isn’t terrible for your health - both physical and mental - of course it is. But if you stop drinking now you really can lead a happy and healthy life and be there for your children. Don’t tell yourself it’s too late, it’s not. Please get there support you need to stop now.
