You can have coke zero or dr pepper zero once a week I think the fruit tea is to do with knocking people out of ketosis I personally don't worry about stuff like that and just use it as a low calorie diet. Have you joined the Facebook page yet as it explains it all on their. Good luck on your Journey 🥰

I’ve joined the FB group but they were all arguing about how if you drink alcohol on the diet, you will die 💀 so I think I will lurk and read the more insightful posts and fantastic weight loss journeys. Life’s too short to worry about dropping dead of ketoacidosis after a cheeky glass of wine 🍷I’m more likely to drop dead of an obesity related illness plus alcohol is a waste of calories when I can eat something instead 😂😂😂

Sorry to ask you to repeat, what’s the plan called again?

The new you plan

@Differentstarts it's me again, sorry. I've tried going through the Facebook groups to get information but they all confuse me - there's the NEW YOU TOTAL, NEW YOU MIXED(I think) and NEW YOU SWITCH and none of them have the answers I am seeking, so I am hoping, my lovely online friend, you can help me. I've bought my products, I've weighed myself, I made DH take a photo of me holding the I can do it banner (someone's got to win that £10k so why not me? :D )

I am going to a fancy event in a couple of weeks, and there is no way I can sit there and drink iced water and eat cereal bars. But now I've read the term refeeding prior to coming off plan and I have no idea what it means. I thought I could get up, get dressed, miss breakfast, attend the ceremony, eat small amounts of ordinary food, maybe quaff a glass of fizz or two, and get back on the meal replacements the next day.

I've googled refeeding and I just get articles about recovering from a eating disorder and I am completely at a loss.

Please help.

If your drinking alcohol your supposed to up your calories to 1000 for a week that is what refeed is. If your just having a drink I wouldn't bother doing refeed but more then that I would as you literally get hammered very quickly. As for food at the event eat what you want, enjoy it and any gain will be water and come straight back of within days.
New you total is no talking of actual food. New you switch is using products and actual food. The new you secret slimmers the mixed one is total food replacement but you can talk about food. The New You total group is really New as some people didn't like actual food being mentioned.

How you getting on I remember the first few days being rough

I lost 6.5lbs the first week, second weigh in tomorrow. I’m not finding this second week so hard. I’ve started taking 4 random sachets and putting them in a tin, and having them at regular intervals, finishing the day with a sweet shake.

I don’t like the facebook group Secret Slimmers though, they’re always arguing over alcohol 🍷 and also I don’t understand why some people have been members for YEARS. Surely it’s a short term thing? Or do you think they’ve regained the weight? That’s a bit worrying.

Fancy event is next Friday and I’m going to choose a low calorie meal and have one solitary glass of wine. I don’t want to be falling down drunk!

I haven’t told a soul apart from DH that I’m doing this. I don’t want lectures on the health implications.

GoldFrame · 05/08/2024 20:07

That’s a brilliant loss. Your plan sounds a good one!

That's a brilliant loss well done. I finish in 2 days then moving to switch. Iv managed just over 3 stone in the 12 weeks so I'm very happy with that. Iv bought some pinch of nom cookbooks to get some ideas for healthy basic recipes and im going to start batch cooking. I looked on the group and haven't seen all this arguing about alcohol, did you put alcohol in the search bar so that's bringing it up. I think the people who have been in the group for years aren't doing the diet anymore they've just kept the Facebook group to offer advice or to keep themselves in check. It's only a 12 week programme but they don't delete people. I wouldn't worry about regaining weight unless you plan on going back to eating how you did before. You have to eat 3500 calories over maintenance to even gain a pound, but you do need a plan and you need to really want it , my plan is calorie counting. I totally understand why you haven't told anyone as you do get shit for it but I took the opposite approach and told everyone as i get motivation from proving others wrong 🤣. Fingers crossed for another good loss tomorrow 🤞

Hey @Differentstarts huge congrats and well done for your achievement, what an ambassador you are 😁.

In case useful to others you have inspired me to use the plan but in a slower more gentle way. I'm basing my diet around the 4 x new life products per day but adding specific things to bring my calories up to 1200.

I have to be specific as I’ve noticed that by eye I will underestimate what I’ve got. I have a written plan so I don’t (accidentally?) cheat. Most of my additions are fruit and veg as the program doesn’t contain much fibre, plus a measured amount of milk for teas and coffees.

I really hate dieting so my plan is each 9 weeks on the plan should hopefully help me lose half a stone.

MaryMack · 06/08/2024 07:47

@Differentstarts the alcohol arguments have all been deleted 🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷 It was one group saying it’s okay to have a couple of vodkas as a treat and others saying you will drop dead of alcohol poisoning.

Another 5lbs off this morning.

I’m going to carry on for the full 12 weeks (with a week off in September for a holiday) then continue a low calorie diet until I’m at target weight.

I still don’t really understand why zero calorie fizzy drinks aren’t allowed or flavoured water unless you buy their own brand flavouring products. I also think adding in low cal veg like kale, spinach, watercress wouldn’t do any harm.

@NewlifeTry you’re allowed 250mls skimmed milk a day.

Wow well done that's amazing. I don't buy their water flavourings but I'm not aiming to be in ketosis I just use it as a low calorie diet. If your wanting to do it as a keto diet then the citric acid in normal drinks will knock you out of ketosis but if your not bothered drink what you like. The same with veg do it how you want to do it. The reason it says no to veg is because it's a total food replacement diet but you don't have to do it like that, you can choose how you do it. 11.5 pounds in 2 weeks is great, you will hit the stone before you know it 🥰

I’ve been reading the fb group as dh has started doing the diet, I’ve seen the arguments about the citric acid and alcohol too 😬 the diet seems a good way too kick start a diet but the facebook group feels crazy. I’m dubious of the citric acid keep away talk, as the pineapple booster they sell has citric acid in

Yes, I think it’s a sales ploy to keep people buying their products and not making cheaper substitutes. I compared the nutritional content of a sweet and sour noodles mugshot (60p) to their equivalent meal replacement and it’s very similar. Same with a sachet of flavoured oatsosimple compared with a meal replacement porridge.

I’m not knocking it, it’s a plan that works, but the cult like cries of ‘no fruit tea, no fizzy drinks, no other low calorie snacks’ is definitely the marketing team at work.

BonifaceBonanza · 06/08/2024 10:21

It is a little cultish however there absolutely won’t be the same protein content in eg a sachet of porridge oats or pot noodles, nor the same vitamin and mineral content.

This. if you read the back of the packs their each full of a quarter of your daily vitamins and minerals which is why you have 4 if you ate this level of calories in normal food you would end up deficient in everything and end up really ill.

I know. But there will be people that try to do a VLCD on a budget, thinking a multivitamin tablet daily will suffice. I worked with a girl who ate 3 x tins of custard daily as a quick fix to lose weight. She was averaging 700 calories a day but virtually no nutrients.

This is when it becomes dangerous and why it needs doing through a regulated company or the nhs with a drs monitoring. I don't know how your feeling but iv been feeling amazing my energy levels are amazing now compared to what they used to be and that I assume is down to me getting all the vitamins and minerals that's needed. Your colleague must of felt horrific and I dread to think what her blood results would look like. However I strongly believe aslong as you have your 4 packs theirs definitely flexibility around things like fruit teas but that's obviously personal choice.

This is what my gp told me about when I spoke to him about this diet, it's quite reassuring the nhs do a version to. I'm also proud of myself for completing the 12 weeks because it's not easy it takes a lot of willpower.

I actually find that taking food out of the equation makes it easy. No need to think about what to take to work for coffee and lunch breaks. No need to go shopping! No temptation to cheat and buy chocolate because the bars taste like ordinary choc. I am going to carry on drinking fruit tea and drinking zero calorie fizzy pop though, I work 12.5 hour shifts and it's really hot at work, with no access to iced water for the staff. The weight is coming off despite me breaking the rules and I'm not going to go on the facebook group and cause a riot Grin

🤣🤣🤣 yeah keep that one to yourself I had a ice cold lemon fanta yesterday it was lovely. I don't strictly follow all the rules and im still losing weight to. It is so convenient, even though I'm back eating now I still have a shake for breakfast before work as its so quick and easy and keep me going until lunch

You'd think someone had confessed to taking smack when they say they've cheated and had a can of Dr Pepper Grin
Some poor guy posted a photo of zero calorie Rubicon and asked if it was okay to drink and he got a proper battering.
Then there are the poor souls who eat all their packs in the morning and wail saying what else can they eat. Someone suggested having a boiled egg and you'd think she'd have said go for an all you can eat buffet restaurant.

On the other hand there are some lovely success stories on there, some people have halved their body weight in less than a year, which is amazing.
