No, not everyone does. I lost 12 stone by varying VLCD and 1400 a day, and kept it off for 10 years.

Congratulations that's amazing xx

I’m surprised you’ve only lost 2 stone in 2 months if you’re eating only 650 calories a day. Should be a lot more lost unless you don’t have much to lose. Sounds like you’re eating more than 650 (as you should)

For context, I’m 5 foot 2, no exercise, 1200 a day and have lost 2 stone in 2 months (but I have a lot to lose)

This is the average for the plan a stone a month I was happy with that as I have hypothyroidism so expected it to be less

What do you eat everyday? Do you exercises too?

I don't do a lot of exercise but I get my steps in at work

You are eating very unhealthily, and that, plus the fact that you are drastically reducing calories, makes me very worried for you. I don’t believe the gp actually knows what you are doing/the actual details.

Whatwouldscullydo · 11/07/2024 12:31

Can you link to what program this is providing the food. I'm very intrigued as to how you can " waste calories" on crisps and chocolate and still have room for another meal and consume all required vitamins and minerals.

LiterallyOnFire · 11/07/2024 12:32

Congrats OP. That must be hard work.

Unfortunately, I'm not surprised you're being met by a chorus of criticism and scepticism.

Thegreatgiginthesky · 11/07/2024 12:33

What % of your weight loss is fat and what % is muscle?

Do you worry about the impact on your TDEE from loosing muscle?

What are your plans when you reach your goal weight? Do you expect to remain on a low calories diet forever?

kitsuneghost · 11/07/2024 12:33

Your diet sounds very unhealthy
Looks like half your calories are ultra processed junk food

It's a 12 week plan, it's 4 packs a day plus a snack. Each pack has 25% of your daily vitamins and minerals. If I was eating 650 calories a day with regular food then absolutely that would be dangerous as I would be deficient in multiple things.

Agree, every last person I know who has done a VLCD has ended up with gallstone issues and gall bladder removal.

My questions:

Why are you wasting your calories on empty treats like crisps and brownies, when you are consuming so few? Surely you would be far better to eat those calories with something nutritious?

Are you not horribly constipated?

Ilovecashews · 11/07/2024 12:35

‘Regular food’ is called food, everything else is processed rubbish. You do you, but this is a recipe for disaster.

I was more worried about having a heart attack from being obese if I'm honest. Yes I do plan on calorie counting for the rest of my life with the odd treat meal thrown in.

IME people who claim to eat so little indulge in treat meals, snacks they don’t count and don’t weigh and measure their food properly but guesstimate.

I doubt you have eaten 650 calories without any indulgence or higher calories days.

Ilovecashews · 11/07/2024 12:38

Let’s say I eat protein bars and shakes with vitamins pre and pro biopics. Might wing it for 2 months (though the boredom!) and lose weight, whilst keeping up with vitamins and minerals, but it’s not sustainable and as soon as I stop and introduce more calories I’m back to gaining weight.

Their not empty treats their not regular food they are high protein snacks filled with vitamins and minerals. No im not constipated, this actually surprised me to as any other diet iv done on my own I have been.

@combinationpadlock the eggs you have, you have from they day you are born! Fascinating to think they are even all there in utero. Eggs are not formed monthly simply matured.

Differentstarts · 11/07/2024 12:27

Yeah it can happen with any rapid weight loss diet I think its like a 9% chance within 6 months. But that's a lot better then the odds of having a heart attack, stroke or cancer caused by being obese

You are right OP, I'm on a low calorie diet as well because of high cholesterol. I don't want to die from heart attack or fatty liver cancer.

WrittenInTheSand · 11/07/2024 12:41

What is this diet? What are these packets called?

I'm not counting the calories or weighing food myself it's a vlcd plan all you have to do is eat 4 packs a day and a snack. Doing a vlcd yourself would be incredibly dangerous unless your trained in nutrition

Exactly this my cholesterol is normal now and it's only been 2 months. It was either this or I had to start taking statins

Nothing wrong with a vlcd to get you to a normal bmi and although you should ensure the vitamins and minerals are adequate (most are zero or 30 calories at most) and adequate protein.
the fact your other nutritional intake is called; crisps, pancake and spag bolognaise, is weirdly wrong.

AimieDaisy · 11/07/2024 12:46

I’ve done a VLCD before. Weeks at 500 calories. I was top of healthy range of BMI and I got to the lower range of healthy. I’ve maintained the weight for 20+ years. So I don’t think you’ll necessarily gain it all back as soon as you eat more, especially if you plan to watch what you eat. Plus when you’re weighing less it is easier to move so you naturally move more. Just recommend trying to increase muscle to limit chances of regaining weight (as more muscle = more calories naturally burned).

Good luck, you’ve done well.

You will not gain weight unless you go above your calorie maintenance. Obviously like with any diet it's pointless doing it if your going to go back to shovelling burgers and pizzas down your throat. It's a mindset and a lifestyle change. These diets are just a kickstart
