I've been in this field for almost 20 years. I started out doing readings and then I branched out into teaching. I have had books published and I have read for and taught thousands of people.

Ask me anything if you are curious about this line of work.

I know that this is a controversial field of work - some people believe in it and some don't. Obviously I believe in it fully to be doing this. I will ignore any questions from people with an axe to grind (i.e. those that imply I'm scamming people or delusional).

When people write to me via my website ( I get a lot of traffic) and they are in dire straits, yes I will often reply or provide support without charging. Just the way often people here on Mumsnet will help a poster in need. I will try to say something to help or comfort them in some way. Or if I think they need a resource in particular I will direct them to it.

I don't need to give free readings in order to get business (I'm well known in my field).

I also don't really work with vulnerable people. The people I work with are deeply spiritual people who are looking over their life and trying to gain some kind of insight but they tend not to be people in bad situations. My readings are not really the kind that people get when they're in some kind of crisis.

By definition, someone who contacts a 'psychic' via the internet is vulnerable and credulous.

So, are you saying everyone has a spirit guide but some of us are unlucky enough to get a crap one?

No, I'm referring to mediums and deceased spirits in that regard. Some deceased spirits are not good at communicating with the living. There are mediums who do have gifts but are not that good at communicating with deceased spirits. Maybe they misinterpret what they get (beginners often do that.)

Our Spirit Guides communicate with us and we often don't realise how they are doing it, but we get their guidance anyway.

I've used psychics. Does that make me vulnerable? I don't consider myself to be.

We don’t imply you’re scamming vulnerable people, we know. If you honestly have this sort of gift, then quite frankly it would be disgusting to charge desperate people looking for help that you could apparently give without any effort

See, I don’t agree there. Everyone has to make a living. If someone could genuinely do what “psychics/mediums” etc claim
to do then I wouldn’t have a problem with them charging at all. Vicars, therapists, doctors, surgeons… everyone who offers a service is entitled to charge for it.

Don’t get me wrong, I agree with Tim Minchin that anyone who claims to be psychic or a medium etc is either lying (I include lying to themselves here) or mentally ill. And charging money for a lie is utterly abhorrent.

Just thinking about Sally “Earpiece? What earpiece? Oh THIS earpiece” Morgan putting on a child’s voice and pretending to be talking to them “in spirit” makes me feel sick.

summersolstice43 · 07/06/2024 13:10

I agree some psychics are scammers but most arent. Give them the benefit of the doubt until proven guilty of this.

rosemary65 · 07/06/2024 12:54

What did you do to contact your guides?

This may be an unconventional view but I believe that the spirit world doesn't have negative entities in it. Here on earth there's good and evil but not so much the spirit world. I feel that we perceive the spirit world through our own biases and if we're fearful in our earthly life (which many of us are), we project that onto the spirit world.

People who have been through a lot of trauma often feel that negative entities attack them for that reason.

I'm not sure if this applies to you, but what I would work on is increasing your sense of safety in your life. Remember times when you felt safe and meditate on those. If you've been through traumas, do some kind of trauma healing like EMDR or some other modality. Most people who do that will find they don't attract negative beings or have encounters with them.

Thank you, it is nice to think they aren't real, that's what I tell myself. I've just always tried to contact them telepathically, all my life, but I have never had the presence of mind, or maybe it scares me a bit, to try it during dreams

Thanks for answering my question. I used to be open minded about it all. Then I went to see our local psychic. He does all the pubs, people rave about him. I paid £40 for him to get every piece of information wrong. From how many children I had/their age/my dad being dead. It was absolutely awful. He told my friend her unborn baby would be fine. She miscarried a month later.

Absolutely awful and I'm firmly a skeptic now.
In your view - are there a lot of scammers out there? If you believe you are genuine then this must be really frustrating for you.

Yes, there are scammers out there.

I get people contacting me claiming a psychic told them they were cursed and asked for money to remove it. That's a common psychic scam.

People working on psychic hotlines are often scammers.

There are some psychics who have some ability but aren't that good.

I also don't believe the future can be accurately predicted in many cases. There are events in our life which are set in stone, which are almost certainly going to happen. Personally, I believe that we are all here for a set amount of time and we can't change the date of our death (to give one example).

But a lot of the future can't be predicted because about 90% of our future is not set in stone. There are probabilities, not certainties. I don't know why psychics act as if the future can be predicted with total accuracy. It can't.

The choices we make today affect tomorrow.

I would recommend mindfulness meditation before you try to tune into them. Or do breathwork. Try to get your mind as clear as possible. It's harder to contact them when you're in a negative state of mind.

No, I'm not that kind of psychic.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

stormy4319trevor · 07/06/2024 13:18

I talk to the dead all the time. I've worked in palliative care and I see angels and feel the presence of loved ones. I feel dark energy and troubled spirits, witnessed paranormal disturbances etc. So I do believe. I just do not think anything of the spirit should be commercialised. God and their protective angels do not deal in money. Jesus did not approve of honouring money above mercy. Sorry, I do not believe you should be earning money from psychic abilities. I also believe in the NHS and the principle of health care even for the poorest in society, so I'm not prejudiced against psychics particularly. Some things are a spiritual gift and do not belong to the material world where money is God.

Yes, I enjoyed school. I was very academic and went on to University.

My childhood wasn't particularly happy.

I don't have children.

I value: loyalty, open-mindedness, good sense of humour, and kindness.

My favourite job was teaching (I used to be a teacher).

Ok. But that also comes to my second point which I couldn’t be bothered to post, if this is real then why aren’t they qualified? People are going to them in mental health crisis, worried about finances, jobs, legal issues, physical health, wanting to contact deceased loved ones. If she’s (presumably) giving this sort of advice, then why doesn’t she have to be as qualified as the people who actually have experience and proof behind their answers? Psychics hold so much power over the lives of people who believe in them. They should be qualified doctors, psychotherapists, lawyers etc who have some sort of governing body and someone to answer to for the advice they are giving people. The fact that they are people like the op whose experience is having a weird interest as a teenager and reading a few books, and are now charging people for advice suggests they’re a bunch of charlatans

LaceyLou82 · 07/06/2024 13:27

What do you think to the energy work of Shamans?

rosemary65 · 07/06/2024 13:28

I did a lot of training. The equivalent of my University years in training for this work.

I've also studied a lot of other things such as trauma and how it affects people so I can be trauma informed when I work with people. It isn't about thinking you have an ability, reading a few books and hanging out a shingle. I train other people in what I do and some people take 3 years to work through my courses.

Thanks for the questions, to those who asked genuine ones.

I am off to bed now but I will check in with this thread another time.

I don't often get bad information.

One of the few things I got that was bad was a friend's husband. I knew he was going to pass away imminently and there wasn't anything he could do about it. He got cancer shortly after and passed away quickly.

These days I do a very specific type of reading for people that doesn't involve picking up information about the future. I try not to go into that because the future depends on peoples' free will. It's always shifting and changing based on the decisions we make. I also feel that telling people their future doesn't empower them, even if we could be fully accurate about it.

How does her husband dying depend on her free will?

I have to say I'm very shocked at the negative and nasty comments on here. What happened to the Be Kind movement?

Honestly, I've always been quite sceptical of psychics when I meet them but most of the time they prove themselves, things they could not have known, and things I didnt know at the time but actually happened.

Each to their own, live and let live and other clichés - but come on, no need to be rude and downright disrespectful.

You can #bekind by not leeching off grieving people.

rosemary65 · 07/06/2024 13:32

I don't do mediumship or work with grieving people.

There are lots of different kinds of intuitive. Mediumship is one type but not all psychics are mediums.

Night all.

I’d be really interested in a reading from you, I do also believe people are here for a reason, and past life regression is something I would be VERY interested in!

I believe I was put here for a reason, I’d be interested if our views are the same. I’ve had a few people tell me the same as my thoughts.

I have this thought quite regularly that some people might read my mind, last time it was a gas man at the door and i was thinking for fuck sake no I'm not letting you in when I'm own my own incase you kill me, then I thought don't he might be be able to read your mind lol
