I've been in this field for almost 20 years. I started out doing readings and then I branched out into teaching. I have had books published and I have read for and taught thousands of people.

I know that this is a controversial field of work - some people believe in it and some don't. Obviously I believe in it fully to be doing this. I will ignore any questions from people with an axe to grind (i.e. those that imply I'm scamming people or delusional).

I am a sceptic but this is a genuine question:

Why can't psychics come up with full names of the spirits who are visiting? It's always "name begins with a B".

I know what I think but I'm interested with what your reasons are.

If you don't do future or mediumship, what sort of psychic readings do you do?

This may be an unconventional view but I believe that the spirit world doesn't have negative entities in it. Here on earth there's good and evil but not so much the spirit world. I feel that we perceive the spirit world through our own biases and if we're fearful in our earthly life (which many of us are), we project that onto the spirit world.

People who have been through a lot of trauma often feel that negative entities attack them for that reason.

I'm not sure if this applies to you, but what I would work on is increasing your sense of safety in your life. Remember times when you felt safe and meditate on those. If you've been through traumas, do some kind of trauma healing like EMDR or some other modality. Most people who do that will find they don't attract negative beings or have encounters with them.

I do the type of reading where I find out why souls came into this life. What their plan was. What they are learning. What they did before they came into this life. Past lives. Soul contracts. And how their spirit guides and soul is communicating with them.

I'm also a trained past life regressionist.

My question was going to be how do you live with yourself, scamming vulnerable people for a living. But if you’re ignoring those questions……

I might be in the minority here but I do believe some people are psychic, I've had a few readings in the past and they've bought up very specific things that no one could have known. That being said OP can you see anything for me

I would say MOST people have crap one.

Do you give your services for nothing? I, frequently, give my professional skills for free but hope to pick up some business through helping people (I do have professional qualifications). You may think this is mumbo jumbo and I do have my doubts but we all need to eat and there are people willing to pay for this so she's not reliant on benefits!

Sometimes they can't. But I've seen people who can and have done that.

When people are channelling spirits of the dead, it's like translating from a foreign language and they often speak in symbols that the medium has to decode.

It's not like having a conversation with a person in front of you. It's a bit like trying to communicate with someone who doesn't speak your language or necessarily know your alphabet but they're drawing images to communicate with you. You are trying to decode what they mean. Some spirits are good at it and some aren't. Some mediums are good at decoding and some aren't.

I realise I probably won't change your opinion as a skeptic but I appreciate the question was genuine!

I have to say I'm very shocked at the negative and nasty comments on here. What happened to the Be Kind movement?

Honestly, I've always been quite sceptical of psychics when I meet them but most of the time they prove themselves, things they could not have known, and things I didnt know at the time but actually happened.

Each to their own, live and let live and other clichés - but come on, no need to be rude and downright disrespectful.

When people write to me via my website ( I get a lot of traffic) and they are in dire straits, yes I will often reply or provide support without charging. Just the way often people here on Mumsnet will help a poster in need. I will try to say something to help or comfort them in some way. Or if I think they need a resource in particular I will direct them to it.

I don't need to give free readings in order to get business (I'm well known in my field).

I also don't really work with vulnerable people. The people I work with are deeply spiritual people who are looking over their life and trying to gain some kind of insight but they tend not to be people in bad situations. My readings are not really the kind that people get when they're in some kind of crisis.

Because they scam individuals out of thousands of pounds in some cases, preying on people who are grieving who genuinely believe they’re getting messages passed on from their dead mum/husband/baby etc. I can’t imagine a more vile way to make a living

I have very little interest in #BeingKind when someone is #BeingAScamster.

And there is absolutely a need to be disrespectful of something that should not be respected. Preying on the vulnerable and credulous is a revolting means of making a living.

Thanks for answering my question. I used to be open minded about it all. Then I went to see our local psychic. He does all the pubs, people rave about him. I paid £40 for him to get every piece of information wrong. From how many children I had/their age/my dad being dead. It was absolutely awful. He told my friend her unborn baby would be fine. She miscarried a month later.

In your view - are there a lot of scammers out there? If you believe you are genuine then this must be really frustrating for you.
