AMA Income over £500k

Following the thread on the disadvantages of earning just over £50k, it got me thinking that if some people think that is a huge amount to earn, what do they think of my life.

We live in North London. Husband earns a lot, over £500k most years. We live in a big house, with a huge mortgage, 3 children at private school, 3 dogs, own a ski chalet which is let out as well as for our use. I don't work, I did try a part time job 5 years ago and whilst I loved it, it cause too much stress at home because my husband is used to me doing everything.

We obviously live very comfortably, but also there are lots of things we'd like to do but can't afford the big projects at the moment. My husbands job is very stressful.

AMA. I am absolutely not gloating, I know only too well how fortunate we are.

What do you earn?

Are you happy? Do you ever worry that if you wanted to leave your husband then you would be broke?

Are you super thin? Do you have swishy hair? Has your husband ever had an affair?

I don't work anymore.

Does his income mean he's hardly home? Do you have home help (cleaner, gardener etc)?

A little, but I won't leave because I love him. He'd be fair in anycase, he's a very fair man.

I used to be lovely and slim with swishy hair. Menopause is putting an end to that though!

What is the point of this post?

Did you have your children at the Portland Hospital?

He does work long hours, and comes home and often works in the evening too. and weekends. When he is here he's busy with diy and gardening, but he loves that. His real downtime is golf, so I don't mind him doing that to de stress.

Do you ever lie awake at night worrying about anything?

And yes we have a gardener but no cleaner

Why is your husband’s salary something to post about? What of interest is there about you?

Yes. Our mortgage is huge, and whilst he earns lots he is at risk with the downturn in the economy. So we do worry about that. overstretched ourselves yes, but we do know we could always downsize if we had to. I can't imagine the stress levels for people who wouldn't have any get out option like that.

Do you find people are more likely to try to be friends with you once they realise how well off you are? Like social climbers and such?

This is about a discussion on what people perceive about income levels. Not specifically about me or him.

No! Not private, all nhs births

Your isn’t any different to if you were a SAHP with a husband who earned 80k though, other than no need to budget for day to day stuff. If your kids aren’t little you could easily work PT if you wanted, just by outsourcing.

I can’t see any point to this other than boasting, which isn’t great OP.

Do you have substantial investments of your own? Do you take much interest in finances?

Your income isn't >500k though is it. So pointless thread.

I don't , no. Our friends are all comfortably off, but prop not like us. Most of our friends are very long standing friends anyway.

On the basis we are all going to depart this earth at some point, do you have plans to release more time together not working when your expenses fall (mortgage paid and children flown the nest?).

Because it seems to me that's one big advantage of earning mountains of money for a few decades. Otherwise, if one dies owning millions of shineys but having worked in a stressful environment all their life, it seems rather a waste of an opportunity.

Have you protected yourself financially at all? Do you pay into a pension?

She’ll live in an area and have her kids at schools when many people are in a similar situation, so no it won’t be.
