I run a LGBT Pride: AMA

Long time lurker but have NC for this.

I run an LGBT Pride event. I want to deal with some of the nonsense theories that we welcome pedophiles or have banned lesbians.

Ask me anything. (Disclaimer: I won't answer anything specific that might out me.)

I checked, OP. 'Rainbow Europe' is from ILGA.

ILGA had their consultative status to the UN revoked because of NAMBLA (North American Man Boy Love Association - a pro paedophile group) membership.

NAMBLA was an ILGA member for 15 years.

This talk of ILGA and NAMBLA reminds me - you missed a couple of my questions @lgbtpride :

What is your organisation doing to prevent infiltration by paedophiles and their advocates?

What groups are included in the '+' of 'LGBT+'? What about the 'Q' in 'LGBTQ(+)'?

Where are the boundaries of this 'community' according to your organisation?

lgbtpride · 21/12/2023 18:45

Tiresome but predictable for those raising that ILGA was infiltrated in the 1980s. So was the precursor to Liberty when led by Harriet Harman. Do you ignore everything they say too?

Also Rainbow Europe is from ILGA Europe which is a separate organisation to ILGA.

@PencilsInSpace I have answered those questions earlier.

Liberty are pretty awful now, yes.

throwawayimplantchat · 21/12/2023 18:50

Appreciate you continuing to answer questions OP. Just reposting mine as think it was missed.

Really interested in your thoughts on this OP as it's something I can't get my head around.

On the female spaces issue - even if you disagree with them, can you understand the reasons why many women do not want trans women to have access to services such as dedicated women's rape crisis centres?

Can you understand and empathise with how having someone who is visibly genetically male and statistically likely to have retained their penis would be triggering and frightening for them at an already awful time?

Do you view those feelings and the resulting pleas for such centres not to offer their services to trans women (and instead offering them separate support services, just not at dedicated women's centres) as transphobic?

@WaitingForMojo

Sex isn’t as binary as the TERF movement think. It really isn’t.

Do you really believe this though?

It literally is binary.

Only if literally isn’t.

Yes, I ignore Liberty. I had cancelled my membership when they decided to embrace gender ideology. At that point I didn't know about their support for PIE. I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole, now that I do.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/12/2023 19:01

It literally is though, as has already been explained.

What's the third sex?

MargotBamborough · 21/12/2023 19:09

I just can't take people who think there are more than two sexes seriously.

If you can be wrong about something so basic I have to assume you are wrong about many other things.

AvengedQuince · 21/12/2023 19:11

ArabellaScott · 21/12/2023 19:01

And what kind of gametes do they produce?

What is the third sex please?

CandyLeBonBon · 21/12/2023 19:15

@WaitingForMojo how is sex not binary? Without quoting the infamously tedious American science article that conflates disorders of sex development and the immutable and utterly binary sexual dimorphism that exists in humans.

Oh and prof Robert Winston (eminent expert in this field) is very clear on the issue.

WitchWitchWitch1 · 21/12/2023 00:39

OP what are your thoughts about young women who have had their healthy breasts cut off, had unnecessary hysterectomies, taken testosterone, resulting in permanent damage to their health, all in an attempt to look like a man, but eventually realise they are lesbian and that they were sold a lie because it's not possible to change sex, and that trans men are women? Would you welcome them at your Pride?

Hi OP, any chance of a reply to my questions? Maybe you didn't see my previous post?

lgbtpride · 21/12/2023 19:37

@WitchWitchWitch1 yes of course I'd welcome her, as I would anyone, who is respectful and abides by our ground rules.

No 1 country according to Rainbow Europe is Malta - a country where it was still illegal to have an abortion under ANY circumstances until July. Now if a woman's life is at risk she's allowed an abortion. How progressive.

It's a map about LGBT+ equality not reproductive rights.

CandyLeBonBon · 21/12/2023 19:54

Still no answer as to why straight fetishistic men are the core attendee of pride these days?

@MargotBamborough Not really but you do you. If you don't like how Rainbow Europe measures things, complain to the researchers. I was just using it to make a point.

I can see I'm just left with a rump of obsessive people who can't see past their own transphobia. So I'll call it a day and end posting here.

Thanks to the sensible folks who engaged like grown ups. Hope you have a wonderful Pride in 2024 and beyond.

LGB absolutely with the T!

Well the thing is, most people think the rights of people who are not LGBT are important too.

Implying that a country is somehow progressive because it got lots of rainbow points when its record on women's rights is utterly dire is going to go down like a cup of cold sick with a lot of women, especially on Mumsnet.

In fact, it's quite often the case that countries which are apparently brilliant for LGBT rights are pretty woeful when it comes to women's rights. I guess there is a pecking order and we know who's at the top of it. But let's drop the "most oppressed and marginalised" shtick now, you can't have it both ways.
