Following on from our epic first thread I had a breast reduction

We are a group of ladies who have breast reductions for a number of reasons and are all at different stages of recovery.

I had a breast reduction AMA | Mumsnet

I had a breast reduction two weeks ago. I’ve gone from a 34GG/H to a 34D. Crack on with any questions!

Still very bruised, swollen and sore, but nothing intolerable. Doing as little as possible to maximise the healing process. Due to see my consultant on Thurs, so I am very interested to get his opinion on how it's (they're 😀 ) looking and how (and when!) to increase my activity..

I am looking forward to emptying my underwear drawer of all my vile bras. And buying replacements I like rather than need.

@Weatherwax13 shocking aftercare!!!!
Good luck @RedWineIsFine .

Weatherwax13 · 01/11/2023 02:37

@thelonghaul yes, absolutely rest up. I overdid it yesterday and am paying the price for it today!
Saw surgeon, all looks good apart from next week I have to have some fluid drained each side where it seems to have collected. Still not sure why that is but he's quite casual about it being temporary, common and easily fixed.
@RedWineIsFine I'm glad you have your date fixed :)

Singletrackmind · 01/11/2023 15:30

Take it easy @thelonghaul @Weatherwax13 you need to give your body time to do its thing, there will be plenty of opportunity for prancing about with your small boobies later on 😀

3 month check today and mine were pronounced as being all good, I can go forth and resume all activities ... ahem ... just as well eh .. drove there straight from the gym 😂 Apparently there's still some swelling, with the softening and 'dropping' taking up to 8 months/ final shape 12 months ish. As long as they don't drop too much is all....!

Skin/ scarring etc all looking good, but I'm to carry on sleeping in a bra ideally for shape/ support etc and to wear a good/ supportive bra when exercising. But, totally yes, to these lovely small stretch crop top/ bralette numbers that are so cheap as well.. who knew.

RedWineIsFine · 01/11/2023 20:31

Glad you're doing well @thelonghaul are you going to have a ceremonial bra bonfire? I really want to but I know I should donate them really.

Martinisarebetterdirty · 01/11/2023 21:04

Congratulations @Singletrackmind ! Are you all signed off now?

Singletrackmind · 01/11/2023 22:32

@Martinisarebetterdirty yeah effectively but fine to see them at any time if i have any concerns - think they get you back at 12 mnths for pics.

in the meantime @thelonghaul all my old bras are in a bin bag for ceremonial dumping when I’m ready!

Martinisarebetterdirty · 02/11/2023 07:44

Brilliant news @Singletrackmind . Is your night bra your post surgery one? (I’ve not been told to keep wearing st night so curious)

Singletrackmind · 02/11/2023 08:28

@Martinisarebetterdirty I'm wearing the Asda post surgery one. Much softer than the Lipoelastic post surgery … which I’m still using for the gym 😁

Also I really want to do everything to keep them perky. I know that lots of women love the whole not needing a bra thing ..and it is lovely to be able to walk around comfortably without one. But that skin that’s round my new boobs was the skin that was most stretched out by my old ones … if that makes sense… so happy to wear some soft support to keep them up!

MorrisZapp · 02/11/2023 12:52

After spending four grand on getting my teeth straightened and lovely, I wear a retainer at night to stop them moving.

I think I'm going to take the same approach to bra wearing 😁

Martinisarebetterdirty · 02/11/2023 13:55

Thanks @Singletrackmind and makes sense when you put it like that @MorrisZapp 😁

I sold my fancy ones on vinted

Madagascary · 02/11/2023 16:16

what size are they settling on @Singletrackmind

Singletrackmind · 02/11/2023 19:38

@MorrisZapp exactly that! We’ve invested this huge amount of money in ourselves, why wld you not look after it 😀
@Madagascary honestly not sure yet as they are still settling. I was squashed into a 32G ish … measurements now prob around 32E, guessing will settle around DD/D … However I’m mostly delighted to be S & M size bralettes & crop tops which in itself is totally liberating!

Martinisarebetterdirty · 06/11/2023 14:18

Hope everyone’s doing ok. I just want a moan, sorry. Agent Provocateur have a huge sale on (extra 40% off outlet prices) so I treated myself to some tiny scraps of underwear that I never could have worn before. Ordered two sizes of bra to be on the safe side and one fits one side and the other just about fits the other side. I am massively wonky, more than a cup size difference and whilst it’s not as much as pre surgery a big thing to me was balancing me out. I don’t think anyone else would notice if I were in a sports bra or a bralet, but in “proper” underwear it’s really obvious. Looks like I will be having some revisionary surgery after all which is so depressing. Going in five weeks to see my guy so will see what he says then. Moan over!

Heartfullofcheese · 06/11/2023 17:25

That’s upsetting. Will you have to pay for the revisions though?
Having to recover twice is not nice.

Martinisarebetterdirty · 06/11/2023 17:39

I think it’s covered (I hope it is! Can’t afford to get it done in the near future if it’s not!) he mentioned hopefully doing any revisions under local rather than general so I hoping not too bad but I am really frustrated by it. I know it could be worse and I’m still so glad I had it done, but gah!

Singletrackmind · 06/11/2023 18:04

Gah … totally fine to moan @Martinisarebetterdirty … it’s a rough one not least after your journey so far, but I’m guessing when your are over the bra disappointment your logical brain will rationalise that hanging in for the revision will be worthwhile. And remember it always much more obvious to you than anyone else, which doesn’t diminish anything … but you know what I mean ☺️

Martinisarebetterdirty · 06/11/2023 18:23

@Singletrackmind - thank you, and I know just a shit day, will be better with perspective tomorrow!

Weatherwax13 · 07/11/2023 06:04

@Martinisarebetterdirty don't blame you for being fed up. I can see a fairly noticeable difference between mine but it's definitely not as dramatic as you're describing. Also I'm only two weeks in so maybe I shouldn't judge yet.
It's a bloody pain you have to wait 5 weeks to show the surgeon.
I've been extremely sore today, worse than any other day. Very sharp, stinging sensation which I've just looked up and I think it might be nerve pain which I imagine is actually positive if they're trying to heal.
Did anyone else get this? I was feeling pretty comfortable until today, more itching than pain.

Martinisarebetterdirty · 07/11/2023 08:07

I’d call about that pain @Weatherwax13, it sounds like a healing pain but you want to be on the safe side. Yes two weeks in isn’t long at all, plenty of time to fluff and even out.
I saw my guy a month ago, he wanted to leave it to settle down properly which is why the long delay.

thelonghaul · 07/11/2023 10:03

@Weatherwax13 I've got the same thing at just over 2 weeks. I assumed it was the nerves healing. Reminds me of the "let down" just before breastfeeding. I'm hoping I'm not about to start leaking!! 😀😃 😉

thelonghaul · 07/11/2023 10:05

More excitingly, I've just gone down a size in the post surgery bras I've been wearing. Now in a DD.

Huzzah!!!!

Singletrackmind · 07/11/2023 10:06

@Weatherwax13 the first few weeks are weird. If anything is hot/ red or you feel unwell get it checked. Otherwise there will be all sorts of sensations that are just part of the healing process. Shape … mine are still changing at 13 weeks. For the first month they were pretty fecking alien … you have to give it time.

Weatherwax13 · 07/11/2023 15:40

Yes @thelonghaul it is similar to let down reflex!
I have so much fluid built up (I sent photos to nurse as requested ) so I'm going in tomorrow to have it drained. It's really distorting the shape. Obviously I knew there'd be swelling but this is actually a massive pocket of fluid. Particularly bad on the left. Not looking forward to it
