Thought this might be a good thread for anyone questioning their drinking or has loved ones with alcohol problems.
I'm in the care of the drug and alcohol support services, I'm also a professional woman holding down a good job.

So ask away...

Glad to hear your progress! I’ve just seen this thread by searching as I’m so worried about my drinking. It’s just spiralled the past year or so. I’ve actually managed 5 free days from alcohol but I was doing 3 bottles of wine a day about 5 days a week (maybe 7 sometimes) with some breaks when I felt horrible! can I ask have you had your liver checked and how old you are? I hammered binge drinking in my 20s but it’s in my 30s I’m just a functioning alcoholic tbh, and I feel like my body is just not good and I’m scared!

Hi @Olivia2020 lots of advice and tips over on the alcohol support board. You're not alone!

Thank you! I’ve been scrolling a lot the past few days! Funnily enough not drinking is making me realise what damage I could have done :-(

I'm early 40s and your story is very familiar! I was always a big drinker, any night out guaranteed to see me the most drunk. Then 30s I switched to wine, and home drinking. I drank every single day between 1-3 bottles, followed by a few G&Ts.

Do you know what triggered your drinking and have you had help to deal with it ?

deedeeweewoo · 22/05/2023 18:20

Thank you for bravely asking this.

My dad was, and my husband is, (in denial) every single week he agrees to cut down and doesn't.

It killed my dad and I feel as though my husband is further along than he was at his age.

Is there anything that will make him stop or is he a lost cause?

@RedRedWhiney how are you doing now?

Sorry if this has been asked before - it’s a long thread!

Do you find the term ‘alcoholic’ useful? I’ve been reading a lot about grey area drinking. I think a lot of people in that zone think, ‘well I’m not an alcoholic, I don’t drink in the morning, so it’s not that bad..’ While questioning their choices and habits…

I’m wondering how helpful the language around alcoholism is?
