The average family size in India stands at 2, and below population replacement level of 2.1.

I imagine that large families in India are increasingly rare and also the subject of interest of those with smaller families.

I'm not sure why you would assume posters who express an interest in - and generally support - larger families to be the very same people who complain about family sizes in other countries?

I realise it's par for the course on this forum to pretend that everyone you disagree with is also the very same person who is objectional and dislikeable on other matters but it's a shitty technique that simply demonstrates your own reductive prejudice.

I agree with the first bit of your post. I don't agree with the last two paras. I have noticed that only certain sections of society are allowed to have large families, and I am not the only one to have noticed that. It is discussed often in the media, most recently by our lecturer in chief Prince William.

@Lotsofbabies6

why wait til they’re older?

exercise is soooo important.

and if you don’t see your friends ever now how do you know they will still be around in a few years time when you feel you can go out with them?

prioritise yourself as well as the kids!

SparklingLime · 22/10/2022 11:52

It’s really not, no.

Oh. Sorry

I've never really exercised! What would you suggest? Genuine question.

We moved a few years ago and I don't really have friends here. I miss my old mum friends so much.

it depends! You could join a gym or maybe start running? Fresh air, tunes on, endorphins?

Hi, mum of four here (2 dads, you know because that's such an important aspect).

How do you deal with people making assumptions and silly comments without appearing rude? I can't leave the house without a stranger at best laughing and saying I've got my hands full or at worst asking me if they have the same father. I generally say yes my hands are full but so is my heart but sometimes I just want to say I really like a ride and I've no idea who the baby daddies are.

PurplRainDancer · 22/10/2022 12:12

How do you dry all your washing? I find tumble drying shrinks clothes.

That's hilarious 😂 I never have all mine together really anymore as the older ones don't want to do certain things, or are at school etc, so when people make comments I say stuff like "I've got three more at home!" and they're like whaaaat

So you are basing your rude assumption of the poster on this particular thread on nothing more than the hypocritical nature of the media and the royal family...and you think that is not a convenient and reductive prejudice? 🤔

Tumble dryer, but DH is more meticulous than me and will hang up anything that can do without shrinking. I mean if you think about it, tumble dryers only shrink clothes once, otherwise we'd all be wearing Barbie clothes 🤣

Wind your neck in. Bitter today by any chance? Show some kindness.

How old are you?

How many are your current husbands and how many belong to your exH?

I'm sorry to hear ex is a scumbag who doesn't want to pay his way.

Why? Floods happening worldwide, the global south dying in heat waves and people are not expected to bring up climate change on an AMA? Bitter? Or worried?

mavismorpoth · 22/10/2022 12:27

Are you employed? As in do you also manage to do a job around these 6 kids is what I'm asking.

ChaToilLeam · 22/10/2022 12:30

Sounds like a bit of a bashing here, OP. A dear friend of mine has 6, the age range is a bit greater though. Some were surprises. They are an absolutely lovely family. Since I never wanted children, I’ve always joked with her that she has my share.

Ha ha fair point, I like your thinking.

cherrymilkshake · 22/10/2022 12:41

How was each birth OP? I'd love to know if they were all similar or very different...and if they got quicker/less painful with each one? Xxx

Some of the responses on here are fucking bizarre.......first of all I'd like to apologise on behalf of my fellow humans for some of the nasty oddballs that have been attracted to this thread 🙄

Then I have to ask what's your favourite one pot, quick meal that everyone likes ? I'm always short of ideas. 😂

You could just report us instead of apologising and see if MN thinks we are nasty? I frankly find it bizarre that we are not allowed to mention climate change any more when we have just had the hottest summer ever. This is an open forum.

It's a discussion. Views will differ, but to be honest, the rudeness isn't limited to one side, is it?

Siblings may be more beneficial in later life than
an extra holiday or spacious bedroom 🤷🏼‍♀️

6 is a lot but she’s hardly Sue Radford. As long as she’s approachable to her children and makes an effort to stay on top of their current issues and things they might be worrying about etc, they’ll be fine.

I know lots of big families, of 4-7 kids, and they’re mainly happy and close to their siblings as they get older. Most of them are quite wealthy and the mums are SAHMs so no issue of deprivation or cramped living conditions.

Mumsnet’s attitude to child rearing is too involved to be healthy a lot of the time, kids shouldn’t need full time counselling from their parents or 3 ski holidays a year.

I think there's a balance between counselling, three ski holidays and having the time and energy to deal with the needs of 6 children. However, if the OP is managing, good luck to her.

Good for you OP. Ignore nasty comments here they are just jealous.

How do you work out that people are jealous? Seems to me the OP hasn't had life experiences to be envious of.
I'm glad she's moved on, but jealous? Nope.

Cherryblossoms85 · 22/10/2022 13:08

I think it's lovely OP. You sound lovely and I'm sure your kids will really enjoy having so much support when they're all grown up. I'm slightly jealous!

PuppyMonkey · 22/10/2022 13:13

I’m the youngest of six children. My childhood was utterly fantastic tbf.Grin

8 of us in a 3-bed council house - 4 girls sharing the biggest room, 2 boys in the smallest room. Bunk beds No money etc etc.

This number of children was perfectly normal amongst my extended Irish family in the 1960s and 1970s tbh, nobody batted an eyelid or thought it worth discussing.

Still close with all my siblings to this day. I’m 56 now, my eldest brother is 69.
