That's it, really. I'll answer if I find any time 😅

2kg chicken, 1.5kg pork joint. Most won't really touch the meat.

Aldi. We have roast dinners, pasta, wraps, salmon, veg and rice, things like that.

8 of you and you do wraps?! I have two children and when we have wraps…. It’s so fiddley!

Endlesslysurprised84 · 23/10/2022 07:41

£100 a week for 8? And that includes 2lb beef, chicken etc

do you manage to get any fruit or veg for that? Does that £100 include toilet roll, nappies, toiletries, cleaning material?

teathyme · 23/10/2022 08:09

That's why I asked how much meat, I can't see how £100 per week can stretch to salmon and other quality meats. £100 for a family of 8 will not provide consistent quality food.

teathyme · 23/10/2022 08:12

^And that's not a judgement BTW. It's just something I've noticed from watching big families, they claim they eat really well but when you see their meals written down they are not balanced at all. It's extremely expensive to eat well, especially now.

Just to clarify, the low self esteem is a thing of the past. I made bad choices at young ages

But your youngest is 1? So that’s not a reason for having 6 😵‍💫

No judgement though I’d love a huge bustling household! We’re done at 3.

What do you do in terms of 1:1 time? Outside of the usual chats at bedtime etc. Eg for us, this half term each parent is doing something special with each kid (except the baby as she has 1:1 all week) - high ropes, theatre, museum, art class.

How do you get them to all their clubs etc, your schedule must be mad!

Any christmas pressie ideas for 5 year old boy??

😂 They have mostly been taught how to do it themselves

I get what you're saying.

As for clubs... I try to steer them towards weekend ones, although when the babies are older it won't matter as much. Dance class is for the 3 year old on a Thursday morning so the older ones are at school. Football training is on a Wednesday evening so I sometimes struggle with that if DH isn't home but the manager is happy to help with that as he drives past our house anyway.

Half term is going to be difficult in terms of that but it would be easier if DH wasn't at work I suppose.

I'm rubbish with presents for boys! Erm... Playdoh, Lego, Playmobil, washable paints, Magnatiles, a tablet/Switch??

Yes we buy fruit and veg and the other things if we need it

I will happily spend more mid week if we're running low on things. But not massively more. Maybe I don't feed them enough? 🤔 But they are normal weights, taking into account that they're shorter than average (I'm 5ft).

Sorry just to be clear - for £100 a week that includes all your nappies, meat, fish, fruit, veg, toiletries, cleaning stuff?

Around that? We don't always need those things. I only eat a tuna sandwich in the day time. Maybe an apple too. The 18 month old barely touches food, just lives off breast milk. The 3 year old doesn't each much either

Does it not worry you?
And when they do turn into big eaters, what will you do? Like others, I do struggle to see how you could feed 6 older children/teenagers adequately on £100 a week.

Cuppasoupmonster · 23/10/2022 10:27

To be honest an 18 month old should not be living off breastmilk. They’ll become anaemic and deficient in vitamins so that needs addressing.

She won’t have 6 teenage/adult mouths to feed at a time because of their ages. Only a 2-3 will be teens at a time.

It depends if the older ones are still at home.

Endlesslysurprised84 · 23/10/2022 11:20

Are you worried your 18 month old basically lives off breast milk? Is she thriving?

Endlesslysurprised84 · 23/10/2022 11:23

The £100 a week to cover meat, fish, fruit, veg, nappies, cleaning and toilet rolls and toiletries - is that at current prices? If so, a few months ago must have been more like £60, which is quite incredible

Skinnermarink · 23/10/2022 11:25

Yeah I’m astounded that that’s the total cost of a family shop for all of you. Unless you grow some of your own, pad out with a zillion lentils and eat very, very carefully.

Single parent. 2 children. Just back from big weekly. £106. No nappies! No booze! No toiletries!

Skinnermarink · 23/10/2022 12:24

Mmmm it’s not that normal for an eighteen month old to rely on breastmilk for all their calories is it? It’s just for top up or comfort at that age.

teathyme · 23/10/2022 13:52

I used to know someone with 8 dc and their shopping budget was £60 a week, including nappies, cleaning supplies and pet food. This was about 7 years ago, but still a tiny budget. They practically lived on plain pasta for 5 days and then 1 day they had chicken and 1 day fish. She thought it was really healthy diet. Her rationale was that they had a main meal in school so the evening meal was just a top up. They must have been starving!
I also notice from the families that I follow that their portions are very small. The Radfords give their late teens the same portion I'd give my 5 year old.

No, bless her. Although she is somehow gaining weight 😅
