That's it, really. I'll answer if I find any time 😅

To be honest an 18 month old should not be living off breastmilk. They’ll become anaemic and deficient in vitamins so that needs addressing.

Health visitors don't seem bothered tbh?! She goes to nursery twice a week and eats there, so I think it's just when she sees me she's like nope

What are you on about?

my point is I can’t believe the op manages nappies toiletries and all food including meat and fish for 8 for £100 a week

when I’m a family of 3 and that was £106! No nappies!

Rubbish is cheap.

which I suspect is how you get to £100 a week to include everything for a family of 8!

Why are HVs involved in your 6th child at 18 months?

Why are HVs involved in your 6th child at 18 months?

HV offer developmental checks to all children under 5. A new birth visit, 8-10 months check and 2 year check

Parents can opt out if they want but it’s offered to all regardless of how many dc you have

Yes - so why is the HV involved at 18 months?

They should be. They’re not the best when it comes to fussy eaters. In my opinion it’s now your responsibility as her mother to wean her and ensure she eats properly, otherwise she’ll end up with deficiencies. It’s a bit odd how okay with it you are, if I’m honest.

Presumably OP got in touch to ask about the feeding issue! They're available to help (in theory) at any time between scheduled checks. My DD is 7m and I saw the HV the other day about a feeding issue even though we're not due a check til next year.

JudgeRindersMinder · 25/10/2022 09:24

I think OP is getting a bit of a harsh time here, especially re shopping and HV visits, mn is OBSESSED with buying cleaning supplies😂if you don’t get sucked into all the caddy products, it’s perfectly easy to clean a house with 1 product and not a gallon of it!
I spend about £120ish a week on shopping for 3 adults, but that’s because Ikm in the fortunate position that I ACN, if I needed to I could probably cut that in half, and that’s without resorting to beige freezer food

My HV had involvement with me till ds was about 2, and that was because I needed support with MY health, they are multi functional!

You don’t sound all that bothered yourself.
Do you think if you had less children to look after you’d be more proactive in getting the feeding issues for your two youngest solved? Or are you to busy to give this quite serious problem the much needed focus it requires?

Well they haven’t “helped” in this scenario. They seem to think an 18 month old surviving on breast milk aside from two meals a week at nursery is absolutely
fine

Yeah well HVs are notoriously useless.

But also it's not at all uncommon for kids to be slow starters in terms of food, presumably OP's toddler is taking a vitamin and she is eating some solids and gaining weight, so I think your derail is a bit overzealous.

You're coming across as just wanting to stick the boot in, tbh.

Lotsofbabies6 · 25/10/2022 13:20

Definitely wanting to stick a boot in! I've contacted them a few times in the past 18 months but as she's gaining weight and happy and healthy, they're not too fussed. I'm not prepared to wean her yet.

You don’t need to wean her, but as her mother it’s your responsibility to ensure she’s adequately nourished instead of just getting the boob out all the time for a peaceful life. Some kids are slow starters, and your post wouldn’t be as concerning if it was (for example) an 11 month old, but at 18 months that’s not normal and you need to intervene.
