So whist talking to a random mum at soft play she was surprised at our “big family” 9 children (full time custody of 3 step children) l. Never thought of us as a big family lol but ask away

I’m actually racking my brains how people on this thread think it’s ANY of their business as to how many children people have?! Big families are very common. I too am from a big family! We all work etc, so what difference does it make?! Absolute FREAKS of the internet! Makes me cringe 😂😂😂😂😂😂

OP literally started a thread called "ask me anything"... people aren't just coming into her house uninvited and firing questions at her and her kids.

Perhaps you missed OP inviting questions on the size of her family.

No, I read that.. cheers.
Still doesn’t explain why people are calling her selfish and other bits on nonsense for having so many children because of the “effect it will have on the environment” Grow up.

I have 6 DC and we are a large family. Well done for taking on all you DSC.
I goind it easier the more we had strangely enough. Well going firm one to two was hard and two to three but after that it seems to get easier. They are all at different stages and all mine get lots of attention.
good luck.

OP you say you retrained as a TA so that you'd always be home when the dc are - so where do the preschoolers go when you are at work?
I worked in a city in the UK where family sizes were larger than average. From what I saw, the children learned quickly to rely on each other as they knew time with mum/dad was at a premium. When a mother of a large family says she gives all her dc individual time it really doesn't mean it in the MN sense. Look at Sue Radford, she claims she spends time alone with each child every day and she has 22! There's just no way it's possible.

All the examples you've given pale into comparison compared to the environmental impact of having a child

Of course, but don't forget that extra child may recycle some of its jamjars! It's not all bad!

Nobody is perfect, but I would think that anyone raising children would want to be doing what they can to ensure those children have a livable habitat for their lifetime. And yes, having more children is a decision that will have an enormous impact on the environment.

Comments on the impact of having more children are factual and correcting misperceptions. They're not directed at the OP personally.

If everyone in 'the real world' really thinks ... dried cat vomit? ... is more important than the environment, then that is probably the exact reason we are all fucked.

Apologies to all of our offspring.

Enjoy the heatwave, everyone. Gosh, it is hot, isn't it?

Quite.

I’m sure all of “the world is overpopulated” won’t mind going to the back of the queue given they would be happier if said carers, medics and tax payers never existed?

There's having kids then there's having a dozen kids. People are needed but we can't all have nine per family. Not having a go at you, op, but it's idiotic for others to say overpopulation doesn't exist. Do you want me to list all the ways overpopulation is and will affect the world @Itwillworkifyoutryit2222? And your dc in the future.

I have dc. Lots of us do. That doesn't mean 4+ children per family is reasonable, no shame in admitting it!!

She literally started a thread in "ask me anything"...

I did ask the question "Why?" earlier but it has not been answered.

What does a 9th child give you that a 5th one didn't? Even allowing for the SDs.

Hi OP, you sound very organised and the kids have a lovely childhood.
I wonder how much you worry about the kids? I have two and although they are both a bit "difficult" compared to other children I worry about them both so much (friendship and behaviour issues respectively). Do you worry about yours a lot?

I feel like everytime the climate gets mentioned, people moan about the heat. You do know many of us are loving it, yes? I doubt if people didn’t do their bit before now that hot weather will get them to do so.

Do you realise what climate change is?

That people in other countries are dying in great numbers and their livelihoods and areas being destroyed?

Do you really not get that people might give a shit about that rather than being pleased about getting more days of barbecue weather here in the UK?

www.npr.org/2022/02/28/1082564304/billions-of-people-are-in-danger-from-climate-change-u-n-report-warns?t=1660066392198

Just an excerpt here:

Billions of people on every continent are suffering because of climate change, according to a major new United Nations report released on Monday. And governments must do a better job of protecting the most vulnerable communities while also rapidly reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The report by nearly 300 top scientists from around the world paints a picture of a planet already transformed by greenhouse gas emissions and teetering on the brink of widespread, irreversible damage.
"People are now suffering and dying from climate change," says Kristie Ebi, one of the lead authors of the report and an epidemiologist at the University of Washington.
That's because heat waves, droughts, floods, wildfires, disease outbreaks and other dire effects of climate change are accelerating more rapidly than scientists expected in many parts of the world, including in North America. And as oceans, rainforests and polar regions heat up, nature is less and less able to help us with the task of adapting to a hotter Earth, the report finds.
Still, the authors of the report make clear, humans are not powerless. Repairing damaged ecosystems and reducing greenhouse gas emissions dramatically and immediately would spare billions of people from illness, poverty, displacement and death.
