So whist talking to a random mum at soft play she was surprised at our “big family” 9 children (full time custody of 3 step children) l. Never thought of us as a big family lol but ask away

Maybe you should wind your neck in and read my comment underneath that comment mate 👍🏻

Gosh, you seem nice.

RampantIvy · 09/08/2022 18:50

The stress of GCSEs x 9, A levels x 9, UCAS x 9, supporting through university x 9 not to mention all the cooking cleaning, washing, general drudgery and mental load that goes with it all makes me want to lie down in a darkened room.

People were invited to ask questions about having lots of children, the OP made it everyone's business. How are you failing to understand that?

Maybe read the whole thread and then you won’t look stupid?

Do you also look at news stories about the climate crisis, about food security and famine and war and displacement of millions of people, and think “grow up”? Fascinating.

No.. because they are no comparison in my eyes. If people want 30 kids.. let them crack on. None of anyones business!

I am, thank you 😘

It might not be our business, but we all end up dealing with the consequences and problems that result from it.

theworldhas · 09/08/2022 18:57

@Tabbouleh
Is it ok for anyone in the world to have a large family? Because I usually see quite a few threads blaming Indian or African women for the climate emergency, but apparently if it's in the UK, it is no one else's business.

…and furthermore the environmental impact of a huge family in, say, Ghana, is still small compared to that of an average family in 90% of the developed world.

Yes climate change is SO BORING. I bet Elon never worries about it and he has 9 too. Why should we?

theworldhas · 09/08/2022 18:59

@despairingdonut
Ignore the self riotous virtue signalling environmental do gooders OP
Read a book.

Shadowboy · 09/08/2022 19:00

The idea of 9 children makes me feel cold. I can’t imagine the stress of making sure everyone is ok and organised…

how do you organise them all and know who has Forest school/non uniform day/play date etc? What’s your system?

do you do anything to counter the environmental impact of a large family- is it even something that you consider. Not goading- but for example we try to negate environmental impacts as
best we can but we have land so it’s easier and a big priority for us. I have always wondered if larger families consider the environment or if food in mouths and keeping everyone clothed is just a more pressing issue.

@Lillith111 living up to your handle there I see! no surprise you were banished from the garden 😉

We’re going to need people to fix the planet, so having plenty of children is a good thing. We are also going to need tax payers and carers and medical staff to be nice to us when we get too old or sick to take care of ourselves. I’m sure all of “the world is overpopulated” won’t mind going to the back of the queue given they would be happier if said carers, medics and tax payers never existed?

@Devonmum2022 sounds like hectic fun! You must be incredibly organised- do you find you have to do a lot of pre planning?

No such thing as 'pre planning', that's what planning means.'

We would need fewer taxpayers, carers etc if there were fewer to take care of.
That's like saying we'll need more firefighters, rather than take measures to PREVENT fires.

I really hope you are not serious.

Quite apart from overpopulation what about the cost of all those children? The cost to the already overstretched NHS. A birth with no complications costs the NHS around £10,000. The cost of other medical treatment. The cost of education. The cost of child benefit and, possibly, tax credits.

It IS other people's business when some choose to be so selfish.

venus7 · 09/08/2022 19:07

Itwillworkifyoutryit2222 · 09/08/2022 16:21

For the people worried about the impact of the 9 extra children on the planet, here’s a nice balanced article on population/over population it’s not so clear cut really, even if it intuitively makes sense that fewer people would be better. Fewer rich people possibly would be better, but that’s more a matter of redistribution rather than ecofascistic policies around population control.

Ecofascitic? You do know, presumably, what fascism means?

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 09/08/2022 19:08

Goodness, some really sour, miserable comments here!

Ignore the pious, self-righteous lot, OP - good luck.💐

Thankfully, what's been proven to address overpopulation is raising education levels for girls & women and improving child health.

This website is worth a look, as is Hans Roslin's work.

Wow. The level of judgement on this thread is why I left Mumsnet for years.

I assume, by your name, you have a dog mydogisthebest. I have two, love them to pieces. They are not the most environmentally friendly concept are they? Dogs are not fundamentally necessary to the essentials of living, they just enhance your life.

That said, I could be making assumptions about your life based on a few posts......

JanisMoplin · 09/08/2022 19:17

I know; I am from the most overpopulated country in the world, though even there population is now falling in the more educated parts:)

I am sure OP is educated though.

minesalargered · 09/08/2022 19:18

And my eldest dog has just cost £8k for a disc operation, which I'm sure wasn't carbon neutral....

venus7 · 09/08/2022 19:20

SouthWestChief · 09/08/2022 17:03

And following on from that I am always intrigued if people with lots of children think their genes are in some way so superior that they have to have more children than those simply to replace (akaBojo)

Particularly your DH as he had 3 already? So he has overpopulated twice with different women

This, exactly. The supreme entitlement. I know someone who wanted, and has had, four children, 'because our children will be above average intelligence'..........not if the parents are anything to go by, no.
