That's it really. Have been a shoplifter for approx 10 years, and have recently decided to stop.
I'm not proud of myself, am fully expecting to get flamed, but and am hoping getting this out there will help with my resolve to stop permanently.

Incidentally I do regularly buy food and put it into food banks. I also always buy clothing for the homeless as well as several standing orders to charities that I have had for donkey's years. Giving things makes me happy.

I am leaving the thread now. Smile Have a nice weekend.

Just before you go OP!

Are you finding that since stopping shop lifting your standard of living has dropped? I.e. not getting all premium supermarket food that you would have otherwise shop lifter; not buying all the clothes that you have otherwise shop fitted? Not the level of Christmas presents that you would have otherwise shop lifterd etc

Absentwomen · 05/01/2019 12:29

OP,

Your posts are very sterile.

And shutting the conversation down suggests to me this exercise was something that has further ingrained a deep need of sharing with strangers yet somehow hasn't affected you at all.

You're quite emotionless about how you have acted over the last decade. I don't think you think you've done anything wrong. Being guilty and feeling guilty are two very separate acts.

Pauperlil · 05/01/2019 12:29

For you to never have been treated suspiciously makes me think your white and middle class looking . Because it seems you have "white privilege"
Iv been followed around shops even tho I'm
Totally innocent because I'm brown and sometimes dress down so security assume I'm a poor ethnic ready to steal. Also Iv seen white people picked on when they have dressed in a down casual "common" way

Kikipost · 05/01/2019 12:30

**MrsBrianWarner

The shoplifting wont stop.

Op is in denial about their ability to cease at this stage. Its very usual.

This will only end when they are caught. Which is probably what they actually want at this point.

You speak with such definitive authority. Do you have experience with this?

HowlsMovingBungalow · 05/01/2019 12:35

I agree with a pp that the OP has some sort of personality disorder ( if the thread is true ).

MrsBrianWarner · 05/01/2019 12:46

I have significant experience in dealing with people who have addictions and compulsions, yes.

^Definktely. She doesn’t need the money

KirstyAllsoppsFatterTwin · 05/01/2019 13:04

I'm inclined to agree How. The OP seems compelled to indulge in behaviour that is risky, anti-social and taboo. There is also an attention seeking element to openly admitting all these things on here, parading it proudly almost, if her username is anything to go by, and exposing herself to intense scrutiny and criticism.

Perhaps it's a form of self harm or maybe she's just a sociopath/narcissist who has little empathy and gets a thrill out of gloating over behaviour that shocks others. Who knows.

UnsungHero · 05/01/2019 13:09

Someone will know you

Stores share internal intelligence bulletins with photos of the thief. Your details will be on the system somewhere

And I know how you stole. I'm a retail manager and know the tricks in our store.... bigger items, huge boxes.... yes seen it all before on the cctv. It's easy to take large items.....unless you are covertly being watched ( and cameras in car park can get your licence plates too)

Don't be too sure you've got away with it..... Facebook police posts show photos too..... listen for your door op.

Knock knock ,you aren't in the clear yet...

Wordthe · 05/01/2019 13:17

Well done for turning things around OP
I don't think anyone will come knocking as long as you have stopped your activities

Kikipost · 05/01/2019 13:18

@UnsungHero

Why would she not have been stopped at the time?!

Absentwomen · 05/01/2019 13:24

Unsung hero is correct.

Supermarkets do build evidence. I know having worked with prolific shoplifters with addictions.

People have been caught after the offence has been committed.

BlancheM · 05/01/2019 15:19

Unsung there's no way in hell OP is going to hear a knock at the door any time let alone soon. If you know the police procedure then you'll know you're only trying to give her a scare. I don't think that's particularly kind of you given OP has stated she's been admitted to hospital with anxiety. I'm sure it gave you a little thrill typing it all out though.

BatFaced · 05/01/2019 15:28

@BlancheM couldn't agree more

Honestly I don't understand some posters at all. The AMA topic could be so so good. Here's your chance to ask the questions you normally couldn't and what do some people do? Be downright nasty. I see it on AMAs on all topics - from sex type stuff that doesn't fit with what you may think, to people who've behaved badly and regret it, all sorts

It's fine to say you think it's awful etc but to stick the boot in - and no, it's doesn't bloody have a bearing on your day to day life in that it keeps you awake and from functioning - is just not on

Escapenextyear · 05/01/2019 15:46

UnsungHero wind your neck in.

ShirleyPhallus · 05/01/2019 15:48

UnsungHero

Reads like the introduction of a very poorly written thriller novel

certainlymerry · 05/01/2019 16:15

You sound emotionless and robotic op. There's something not right with you, really.

On the basis of this comment, as do you! Plus a bit daft not to appreciate the irony of your statement

BatFaced · 05/01/2019 16:56

And lol at all these armchair psychologists

thereallifesaffy · 05/01/2019 17:20

Did you get a thrill from stealing?

AdoraBell · 05/01/2019 17:48

Sorry if this repeating, why did you start to steal things? Do you know drove you to do it?

InkyAndBinky · 05/01/2019 18:03

I think everyone has shoplifted at some point in thier lives

Speak for yourself. 😲

Fortunately I think there are lots of people who have never shoplifted. I've never ever shoplifted and that includes 5p bags! It's not hard to avoid shoplifting. It's something I don't give any thought too, I just don't do it.

I'm happy to say I 'judge' people who shoplift even if it's from big companies. Shoplifters are happy to make other innocent people pay for their shitty behaviour so why shouldn't I judge them.

UnsungHero · 05/01/2019 22:31

Wind my neck in?? Fuck that!!

Op is a common thief! Nothing more
