I will not go into some details, but I will try to answer as many questions as I can.

Maybe the reason is that men & women prefer to be separate sometimes?

There is probably some of that. There is also the fact one joins the lodge that invites them and often does not know that there are other options. Even if they did, they might not have friends in those lodges so could choose to join the women-only lodge when they might prefer a mixed one.

Or is the ruling council, or whatever they have, forbidden to women also?

It is not. Women-only groups have their own women-only Supreme Councils.

This is painted on a wall near my house- (from memory I think I’ve done it right) is it related to freemasonry?

That drawing vaguely suggests the Masonic symbol that looks like a single eye within a triangle that is on the US Dollar. It think it looks more like an eye sitting in a Native American teepee, though Smile

to describe an orbit as one body going round another rather than the other way round is purely for convenience

Agreed but planets don't orbit the Earth like the Church said. They orbit the sun like Galileo said. This doesn't have anything to do with Relativity. Galileo was right and the Church was wrong. It took them a good few years to admit it, though Smile

If that is the case, I am truly sorry. It was not my intention

I know that. Smile
There's something I do that I would love to do an AMA on but I can't. It's too outing for me and there is a big confidentiality agreement attached to it. And no doubt if I did an AMA I would come across as a right know-all because I'm quite passionate about it so it would be the boot on the other foot for me!

Late to this, but would like clarification for a friend, do the ladies follow the initiation like the men of being blindfolded, wear a noose around their necks, bare their left breast and then are parraded around the chamber whilst in this state?

I am also a Freemason. I am male. I have been a member for around 25 years and have progressed to the point where I hold London Grand Rank in London masonry. (Which sounds very important, but isn't particularly). I am also a 30th degree member of a side order called Ancient and Accepted Rite.

Like the originator of this conversation, I would be happy to answer questions.

It's like cubs or scouts essentially... for adults
