Just that really, brought up (relatively) orthodox if that makes a difference.

Please note, I have an opinion on the situation in the Middle East but I don't believe that Zionism is a part of Judaism and don't really want this to turn into a discussion over Israel.

Also, I can answer to my knowledge of the faith and my experiences, others may have differing understanding and wouldn't agree with my opinion.

If you read my original post, you'll see that I have an opinion about Israel, as do many other people. However, as this is not relevant to the Jewish faith (in terms of tradition etc) its not something I'm willing to talk about or debate etc.

As for your question "Are Jewish people racist?" I can only direct you to what others have said. You cannot answer for a whole group of people and expect them to be the same. If you are asking me, no I believe I am not racist. I have nothing more to say about this.

I wasn't asking to offend. It's just my personal experience and a lot of similar experiences by other black people. @bananafish81 @Bobbiepin.

As I said I know people are people and I am not generalising... that would be stupid. I was simply asking if there are inherent biases that exist culturally that would lend itself to racism.

And I didn't assume you @Bobbiepin are racist and never expected you to answer my statement about Israel. You stated you wouldn't get into it.

Your question was defunct and you know that. You are stereotyping and assuming others will fall in to that too. To rephrase your question so well means you were perfectly capable of asking that to start with. You are being goady and it's unnecessary.

As for actually asking your question, the Jewish people have faced thousands of years of persecution, have been forced out of our land, been murdered, kept as slaves and to this day defend our very right to exist so no, we tend to be quite sensitive to the disadvantage that others face. And people wonder why some Jewish communities prefer to stick together.

@Bobbiepin

I was not stereotyping... and was hoping for nothing!

I asked a question a very straight no/yes question; you interpreted it as something else, meh. 🤷‍♀️

I really hope this doesn't offend anyone but it's a question I would really like to ask.
I keep hearing in the news about anti Semitism in the Labour Party.
Could you point me in the direction of finding out more about this please?

SolidarityGdansk · 27/07/2018 10:25

This is a good starting point:

Have a read of this for another example:

I have very much enjoyed reading this AMA. Thankyou Bobbiepin and others for your stories and insights. I have been told that I have Jewish ancestry from my Dad's side of the family, but unfortunately I don't have enough details to do a proper family tree Sad

I have a question about the famous chicken soup, which I have heard being called "Jewish Penicillin." I would love to try out a recipe at home but there are so many different versions online, that I wouldn't know which one to go for. Are there any specific ingredients that it must have? I live near a Kosher supermarket if that helps.

GameofPhones · 30/07/2018 00:37

Thankyou for this thread, OP. I've often wondered if any special precautions are taken to prevent food poisoning when food is left warming for many hours over the sabbath?

tedx · 07/08/2018 06:00

What do the teachings tell you about the Messiah?

JellyBears · 07/08/2018 17:55

I live in a part of North London with a huge Orthodox Jewish community. Can I ask why the women all dress the same and wear wigs?
