While you may look forward to the winter months coming to an end and the warmer weather making an appearance, you may not be a fan of the hot and sticky feeling you get during the summer months - especially when you’re on the go. Pedestal fans and air conditioners are great for keeping cool at home, but portable neck fans have been designed to keep you feeling refreshed no matter where you are or what you’re doing.

The SLuB neck fan is a bladeless neckband fan, which looks similar to a pair of headphones. These devices have been designed to sit around your neck to blow air around your face. Our Mumsnet users rate neck fans for helping them stay cool on walks and day trips during the warmer days and for also tackling hot flushes, and unlike even the best handheld fans, they keep your hands free. We tasked our tester Sam to put the SLuB neck fan to the test across the course of a week, rating it on its effectiveness against hot flushes, how long the batteries lasted, ease of use, and overall value for money.

If you’re looking for a neck fan that can be worn easily when out and about, the SLuB neck fan is made from soft and flexible silicone for comfortably wearing around your neck throughout the day. With bladeless fans that blow air through 48 outlets, we found that it provided a nice breeze to the lower face to help you stay more refreshed during a hot flush or summer’s day.

It’s easy to use right out of the box with three wind speeds and a decent enough battery life. We did find the neck fan a bit noisy when in use and it’s pricier than others we tested, but it would still make a worthy purchase if you want to stay cool and fresh during the summer.

What is the SLuB neck fan?

Using a turbo fan instead of blades, the SLuB neck fan blows air through 48 air outlets to keep your neck and face cool. There are three speeds to choose from and it is made from soft, flexible material so it’s light and comfortable to wear when you’re on the go, freeing up your hands to go about your day. The bladeless fans have been designed so they won’t get caught up in long hair.

How easy is the SLuB neck fan to use?

During testing, we were able to get straight to using the SLuB neck fan as it came fully charged. We liked how the silicone material of the fan made it feel really lightweight and soft around the neck so it was comfortable to wear no matter what we were doing.

The fan is flexible so you can bend it and angle it to fit comfortably around your neck and we found it held its shape well so it doesn’t move around easily. The fan has three wind speeds which can be easily adjusted using the power button. It can be quite noisy though.

How effective is the SLuB neck fan?

The air outlets on the SLuB neck fan provide air that flows around the face. While it doesn’t cover the whole neck and face, we like that the air hits your chin area and lower face which will feel nice on a hot day.

What’s the battery life like?

While it’s not as long as the battery life on the Jisulife portable neck fan, the SLuB can last for up to eight hours, depending on the speed you use. We think that is enough for a day at work or a day out during the summer months, so you shouldn’t have to worry too much about the battery running out while you’re away from a charging point. As with all the other neck fans we tested, it can be easily charged up using the included USB cable.

Price: is the SLuB neck fan worth it?

At £16 at the time of writing, it sits in the lower price range of neck fans and there is a lot to like about the SLuB neck fan - it’s lovely and lightweight, with soft flexible material that makes it comfortable to wear. It provides a decent blast of air to the face from the bladeless fans, which are safe for longer hair, so it would be a decent buy if you don’t like feeling hot and sticky during warmer weather.
