Our verdict

If you're looking for a wearable breast pump that combines strong milk output with genuinely useful smart features, the Momcozy M5 Smart Wearable Breast Pump is one of the strongest options we've tested from Momcozy so far.

Parent tester, Kate used the Momcozy M5 while exclusively breastfeeding her four-month-old baby and building a freezer stash of expressed milk. Over four weeks of testing, she found it comfortable to wear, easy to use and particularly effective at expressing milk quickly. Kate says, "It expressed milk efficiently in a relatively short amount of time, helping me collect a good amount of milk without needing to pump for long sessions."

She was also impressed by the pump's long battery life, straightforward assembly and practical extras, including the multiple flange inserts, clear digital display and protective storage case. The addition of app control allows parents to adjust settings remotely and track pumping sessions, although Kate found the pump itself simple enough to operate without relying heavily on the app.

The Momcozy M5 isn't without drawbacks. Kate found it a little bulkier and louder than some other wearable pumps she's used including the ultra-slim Momcozy Air 1 breast pump, making it less discreet under clothing. She also felt the milk collection cups could be awkward once removed, as they don't stand upright on their own, and some of the smaller parts were fiddly to clean thoroughly.

Overall, however, these were relatively minor frustrations. As Kate explains, "After testing the Momcozy M5, I was really impressed with its efficiency. It's also comfortable and easy to use, with excellent battery life and has plenty of useful features."

How we tested the Momcozy M5 Smart Wearable Breast Pump

Kate tested the Momcozy M5 over four weeks while exclusively breastfeeding her four-month-old son and building up a backup milk supply. As a mum of two with an older child to look after as well, she used the wearable pump around five times a week, incorporating pumping sessions into everyday family life.

Testing focused on real-world use rather than set pumping sessions, allowing Kate to assess how the Momcozy M5 fitted into her normal routine. She evaluated everything from comfort, milk output and suction strength to battery life, portability, cleaning and ease of use, while also considering how it compared with other wearable breast pumps she has used previously.

Once testing was complete, Kate scored the Momcozy M5 across eight key criteria: performance, quality and durability, ease of use, value for money, comfort and fit, noise level and discretion, battery life, and hygiene and cleaning. It achieved a total score of 86 out of 100, which equates to a five-star rating.

The pump performed particularly strongly in performance, ease of use and battery life, reflecting Kate's experience of a wearable pump that was efficient, straightforward to operate and capable of lasting through multiple pumping sessions on a single charge.

How easy is it to assemble and use for the first time?

Kate found the Momcozy M5 straightforward to get started with. Unlike some wearable breast pumps that can feel fiddly during the initial setup, she was able to assemble and use it with very little trial and error.

As she explains, "I found it very straightforward to set up and use for the first time. The instructions were clear and easy to follow, and thanks to the simple design and clearly labelled parts, assembly was quick." The inclusion of multiple flange insert sizes also helped simplify the process. Rather than having to purchase additional sizing accessories, Kate was able to find a comfortable fit from the outset using the inserts included in the box.

She also found the controls easy to understand from the first session, adding, "The digital display is intuitive and the three different pumping modes (Stimulation, Expression, and Mixed) are easy to navigate, making the pump simple to use even on the first session."

Overall, Kate found the setup process largely hassle-free. As she puts it, "I didn't need any additional support, such as video tutorials, to get started," and she felt confident using the Momcozy M5 straight away.

At approximately 230g per pump, the Momcozy M5 is one of Momcozy's lighter wearable pumps, with suction up to 285 mmHg.

What is the Momcozy M5 Smart Wearable Breast Pump like to use day to day?

Kate found the Momcozy M5 easy to use multiple times a day, which says a lot for a breast pump. Once assembled, she found it comfortable to wear, simple to operate and straightforward to use as part of everyday life.

As she explains, "After assembling the pump and selecting the correct flange insert size, you place it inside your bra, so it sits comfortably over the nipple, creating a secure seal." Kate was particularly impressed by how comfortable the pump felt during use, adding, "The lightweight design makes it comfortable to wear while expressing. I also found the pump to be pain free."

Like the Momcozy S12 Pro, the Momcozy M5 features a digital display that allows you to adjust settings directly on the pump. Kate found the controls straightforward to navigate, saying, "The digital display is clear and easy to navigate, allowing you to switch between the different modes, including stimulation and expression, depending on your preference."

Performance was another highlight during testing. Kate found she was able to express a good amount of milk without needing particularly long sessions, explaining, "I found it expressed milk efficiently in a relatively short amount of time, helping me collect a good amount of milk without needing to pump for long sessions." Away from home, she also appreciated how portable the pump felt. The lightweight design and long battery life made it easy to transport, with Kate noting that she'd "happily take it on holiday."

How sturdy is the Momcozy M5 Smart Wearable Breast Pump?

Despite its compact wearable design, Kate felt the Momcozy M5 was well made and durable enough for regular use. As she explains, "This pump feels really sturdy which gave me a lot of confidence when using it. The components fit together securely, and despite being lightweight, the pump feels durable enough for regular daily use."

This was reflected in Kate's quality and durability score of 13 out of 15, with the pump showing no signs of wear or weakness during four weeks of regular testing. The individual components felt secure once assembled, helping to create a reliable seal while pumping.

The storage case was another feature Kate valued during testing. As she explains, "The compact storage case also helps protect it when transporting or storing it."

Soft silicone suction cups help the Momcozy M5 sit securely inside a nursing bra while expressing.

How comfortable is it to wear?

Comfort was one of the Momcozy M5's strongest areas during testing. In fact, that's been a consistent theme across the Momcozy pumps we've reviewed so far, including the Momcozy S9 Pro, Momcozy S12 Pro and Momcozy Air 1, all of which scored highly for comfort when fitted correctly.

As Kate explains, "I found the pump comfortable to wear when expressing. Its lightweight design made it easy to wear inside my bra, and the range of flange insert sizes included meant I could choose the best fit for a comfortable and effective pumping session."

Getting the right fit was key. Like most wearable breast pumps, the Momcozy M5 relies on correct positioning and flange sizing to work effectively, but Kate found the included inserts made it easy to find a comfortable setup without needing to buy extras. She adds, "I didn't experience any discomfort while using the pump, and I found it stayed comfortably in place once positioned correctly."

How hands-free is the Momcozy M5 Smart Wearable Breast Pump?

As you'd expect from a wearable breast pump, the Momcozy M5 is designed to allow you to get on with other tasks while expressing, and Kate found it delivered on that promise. As she explains, "Once positioned correctly, I was able to move around comfortably while pumping without needing to hold it in place. This made it easy to get on with other tasks while expressing."

The secure fit also gave her confidence to move around the house without worrying about the pump shifting during a session. This is particularly useful for parents who are juggling pumping alongside caring for older children or getting jobs done around the house. Kate was also reassured by how securely the pump stayed in place during use, adding, "I didn't have any concerns about leaking during use, as the pump felt secure and stayed in place throughout my pumping sessions."

While the Momcozy M5 isn't the most discreet wearable pump we've tested, Kate found it performed well as a genuinely hands-free option, allowing her to express comfortably without being tied to one spot.

How discreet is the pump?

Discretion wasn't the Momcozy M5's strongest point during testing. While Kate appreciated the convenience of a wearable design, she found it more noticeable under clothing than some other wearable pumps she's used. As she explains, "This model is a little bulkier than some other wearable pumps, so it can be more noticeable under tighter clothing."

This mirrors our experience with the Momcozy S9 Pro and S12 Pro, both of which Amy found relatively bulky when worn. However, it's worth noting that the slimmer Momcozy Air 1 remains the most discreet Momcozy pump we've tested so far, thanks to its significantly lower profile.

Noise was another area where the Momcozy M5 fell slightly behind some of its competitors. Kate says, "I found it louder than other wearable pumps I've used in the past. While the sound isn't excessive, it's noticeable in quieter environments."

That said, neither the size nor the noise level would stop her using it outside the home. As she explains, "I would still feel comfortable using it while out and about or at work if I had access to a private space for expressing."

What is the battery life like of the Momcozy M5 Smart Wearable Breast Pump?

Battery life was another area where the Momcozy M5 performed well during testing. Kate found she could comfortably get several pumping sessions from a single charge, making it a practical option for both home use and days spent away from a charger. As she explains, "I found the battery life to be excellent. A full charge lasted for around 4/5 pumping sessions, so I didn't need to recharge it after every use."

Momcozy claims the M5 can deliver up to six pumping sessions from a full charge, depending on the settings used, and Kate's experience wasn't far off this figure during everyday use. She adds, "This made it really convenient for using at home or when out and about without worrying about the battery running out."

The strong battery performance contributed to Kate awarding the Momcozy M5 a full 10 out of 10 for battery life, making it one of the highest-scoring areas of the review.

Is it easy to clean?

Yes, overall, Kate found the Momcozy M5 easy to clean, although some of the smaller components required a little more attention. As she explains, "The pump is easy to take apart and clean, although the smaller parts can be a little fiddly to wash thoroughly."

Like most wearable breast pumps, all of the parts that come into contact with milk need to be washed after each use, while the motor unit itself should only be wiped clean. During testing, Kate found the process manageable, although some patience was needed when cleaning the smaller components.

It's worth noting that Momcozy recommends hand washing the milk-contact parts rather than putting them in the dishwasher, which may be a consideration if you're looking for the lowest-maintenance option possible.

Momcozy M5 flange sizes

Multiple flange inserts are included in the box, making it easier to achieve a comfortable and effective fit.

Is the Momcozy M5 Smart Wearable Breast Pump good value for money?

Yes, overall, Kate felt the Momcozy M5 offers good value for money, particularly for parents looking for a wearable pump that combines strong performance with useful extras. Kate says, "It performs well, expresses milk efficiently and includes useful features such as app connectivity, multiple flange insert sizes, a long battery life and a storage case."

At around £190, the Momcozy M5 sits in the middle of Momcozy's wearable pump range. It's more affordable than the premium Momcozy Air 1, but offers more features than some entry-level wearable pumps, including app connectivity and a generous selection of flange inserts included in the box.

Kate felt the pump's few drawbacks were easy to overlook given its overall performance. She says, "Although it's a little bulkier and louder than some other wearable pumps, these are minor drawbacks compared with its strong performance. I'd happily recommend it to other parents looking for a reliable, hands-free wearable breast pump."
