Our verdict

Simply put, my baby just doesn't feed as well without it!

After using the bbhugme daily for five months (and counting), our tester Ally really rates this nursing pillow, saying, "it's easy to use, light and compact and supports my baby really well." She also loves the softness of the fabric which feels gentle against her baby's skin and can be washed easily, and the fact you can adjust the firmness using the pillow stoppers at each end.

The pillow is versatile too, and Ally has found it a huge help in recent weeks as her daughter has begun learning to sit up - she loves being able to use the pillow as an extra support for when her baby naps on her as well. "I recently used it on a plane for comfort as she slept on my lap, and when she was smaller I used it to transfer her to my partner."

"I really like this feeding pillow. It's supportive, adaptable and comfortable to use, and I would absolutely recommend it to others. In fact I've already recommended it to a cousin and she bought one and loves it!"

How we tested the bbhugme Nursing Pillow

Mum-of-one Ally tested the bbhugme Nursing Pillow over several months, starting when her baby was just one month old. During this time, she primarily used the pillow as a support for breastfeeding in cross-cradle and cradle-hold feeding positions. At the time of writing, she is still using the pillow several times a day and during the night for both feeding, comfort and a support for her baby as she learns to sit up.

During testing, Ally took extensive notes on a variety of important criteria including how well the pillow performed overall as a feeding support, how durable it felt, its overall quality and value for money and ease of cleaning. She provided scores for eight key criteria (listed above) using a carefully formulated scoring system, which then informed her overall rating of the bbhugme Nursing Pillow.

What were your first impressions of the bbhugme Nursing Pillow?

"I was very impressed from the start with the bbhugme. It's neat and stylish. It's a small sausage shape and very lightweight. I love the blue colour with the orange neon label, and how lovely and soft it is."

How easy was the bbhugme Nursing Pillow to use for the first time?

"There was no assembly needed, which is great with a newborn. However, I didn’t actually realise that you were supposed to tie it around you. I was just using it on my lap until I spoke to a friend and discovered that you are encouraged to tie it up to make it more dense and supportive. Perhaps the pillow could include this suggestion on a little diagram/graphic on the label."

"It is light and compact and easy to use once you know to tie it." - Mumsnet tester Ally

"Yes, it is a great support when feeding and it’s very comfortable to use. I take it EVERYWHERE and even use it in the car. I tend to keep it tied so that I can pop it over my head quickly when she is suddenly hungry!"

How does the bbhugme compare with other feeding pillows?

"I find it a lot more comfortable to feed with the bbhugme than other pillows, I used to have a large squishy pillow that was too big. I also had a firm triangle-shaped pillow which was also too big, heavy and firm, so it wasn’t comfortable for me. I tried a standard triangle pillow too, but it wasn’t supportive enough.

"I also used lots of cushions in the early weeks of breastfeeding, which I found frustrating, and it was very difficult to achieve a comfortable position – especially when I was on my own without anyone tucking pillows and cushions under my arms and elbows."

How do you wash the bbhugme Nursing Pillow?

"Washing instructions are easy to follow from the label on the cover. It also dries quickly which is useful." - Mumsnet tester Ally

Do you use the bbhugme Nursing Pillow for anything other than feeding support?

"I use the pillow as a support for my baby when she is trying to sit up and look around while lying on her back, and as a comfort pillow for me in bed between night feeds. I also use it to transfer my sleeping daughter to my partner when we need to, and I often carry her to bed on it when she falls asleep while feeding."

Is there anything you would change about the bbhugme Nursing Pillow?

"I would suggest a second cover, so that when it needs a wash you can still use it while the cover is washing and drying."
