Chatting with some friends over coffee earlier when it was first reported. All of us were sceptical at the decription of ‘woman’ rather than ‘female’ and until proven otherwise assume this is the Met/BBC usual obfuscation and that is actually a man in a dress.
Whenever they describe a perp they say ‘white/black male’ not ‘man’, so why not say ‘white female’.

Charlize43 · 05/08/2026 17:51

Some women hate men on a psychotic level. My ex-boss was like this. Every day we'd witness several diatribes directed against the male sex; she was a room counter as well and would make a fuss if there were more male to females present - she'd launch into a loud lecture about the patriarchy. It was endlessly tedious. She only employed women but god help you if you said something nice about your husband... It was like unleashing the kracken!

Of course, she was one of those women who was endlessly 'undressed' and 'sexually harassed' on her journey in on a daily basis, despite looking like a middled aged Rose West - the rest of us would just read Metro or our books on the journey in without incident. She'd always start the day with telling us about this.

Who remembers (or knew about)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leila_Khaled ?

Yes, Djamila Bouhired in the Algerian War is another woman I read about recently who was involved in historical Arab/Muslim extremism.

Having an account on a website is just an administrative detail. A person's gender exists within a much broader social and legal context, shaped by lived experience and how they're recognised in society. Reducing something as complex as womanhood to the equivalent of a website login category says far more about how narrowly you view people than it does about reality.

This is a reply to the wrong post and the wring poster.

Jesus Christ, can't some of you give your obsession a rest?!

It's a discussion about the accurate reporting of sex in crime journalism.

This is the feminism board.

If you want to discuss something else there are many other boards, but I can't promise that they will be of any more interest to you.

yetanotherusernameAgain · 05/08/2026 17:53

It didn't cross my mind in relation to this news item, but there is another news report today showing a police mug shot of a woman convicted of killing someone and I did wonder if the person was actually a woman.

Does anyone know the article I mean? I didn't want to start a thread about but as this thread already exists I'll chip in here.

There were some very dangerous women in the IRA, for balance.

When we can trust media reporting.

This does actually appear to be a woman with mental health problems.

But we have seen too often the media falsely claiming a woman committed a crime, and when the identity of the perpetrator is awkward for the media, the case quickly gets hidden under "mental health".

Trust in the media isn't like a tap, it can't just be switched off and on.

SodThisHeadache · 05/08/2026 17:56

There are indeed some very dangerous women. Have any women ever been referred to as men when their crimes were reported? I suspect not - female criminality is good for clicks

Walkden · 05/08/2026 17:56

"Why don't you believe it?"

The arguments out forward on this thread are

Women are not dangerous to men as they are physically weaker so the 4 men should have overpowered their assailant instead of getting stabbed.

Because they didn't do this it must have been a man.

Because the media often reports on self identifying gender trans women have been described as women on reports repeatedly over the last 10 years.

Because men statistically commit the significant majority of violent crimes the assumption is usually that the assailant is male or a male identifying as a woman.

In this case so r posters have commented that it must be a biological woman as
1 no life threatening injuries resulted
2 the assailant used scissors not a knife

Yes. There have been a few FtM trans shooters in the US. They were referred to as male, even though they were female. It was likely that their bodies couldn't handle the sudden influx of testosterone and they because incredibly violent.

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 05/08/2026 18:00

I immediately thought, scissors, four men not seriously injured, probably a woman. Also, the shopkeeper trying to wrestle the scissors off her- that made me think female. If it was a man, I don’t think there’d be much of a tussle.

Heggettypeg · 05/08/2026 18:00

ThisShyTaupeFinch · 05/08/2026 17:40

Dismissing a person's identity as a 'performance' is just a cheap way to avoid treating them with basic human dignity. Transitioning isn't playing a role; nobody faces social stigma, navigates complex medical systems, and rebuilds their entire life just to 'put on an act.' Transitioning isn't playing a role for an audience-it's living authentically. Accusing trans women of 'acting' just reveals how
desperate you are to invalidate their lives.

Whether they are sincere or not, transwomen are not female and therefore not women. They can be themselves, why not? (nobody is a perfect stereotype of masculinity or femininity so there is no reason why a particular man can't have and openly display character traits which society codes as feminine) but claiming to be actually a woman is an act of appropriation. It's unnecessary and offensive. They should have done what gender-nonconforming men do in other societies and honestly labelled themselves as a separate third category if they wanted to differentiate themselves from men.

SodThisHeadache · 05/08/2026 18:01

@YesterdaysFuture. Thanks, will look that up.

The truth really doesn't matter anymore.

BerryTwister · 05/08/2026 18:02

Maybe she'd been asked "where are the scissors, I can't find them" once too often....

AstonUniversityPotholeDepartment · 05/08/2026 18:03

I'm just on this thread to tell everyone that all human beings are animals, so get over it.

We are expressly part of the animal kingdom (Animalia, if you want extra kudos points). If you don't want to admit humans are animals, are we going to reclassify ourselves as mushrooms?

Sunnibee · 05/08/2026 18:04

IkeaJesusChrist · 05/08/2026 15:55

Why couldn't a woman stab four unsuspecting people with scissors before they had time to react? Especially in a busy area such as Covent Garden.

Because all women are desperately frail creatures, whose only social role is victimhood.
If there has been any violence then obviously it must have been caused by a man on account of his penis- because that is what having a penis does to people. Catch up! ☺️

"I want them called 'men' because that's the truth. They're males."

The irony is that people claim they're protecting women while reducing womanhood to nothing more than biology. Being a woman is also a social identity shaped by lived experience and how society treats you. Turning it into a checklist of chromosomes and body parts strips away that humanity and reduces women to biology alone. Expecting news outlets to reduce human beings to mere livestock-style biological criteria isn't exposing media lies; it's reviving an old form of misogyny under the banner of a culture war.

Oooh. This is one of those odd arguments that transactivists are trying now the law's been clarified.
That being a woman is suddenly so complex and any mention of chromosomes and biology is reductionist and excludes the "lived experience" of men who claim they're women 😂

MidnightPatrol · 05/08/2026 18:06

The area is full of homeless and drug addicts, and I find it wholly unsurprising to hear one of them might do something like this - and yes that they are female.

It’s really busy and so an attack like this could happen very quickly, and in the chaos I can imagine it was hard to work out what exactly was going on.

The police do nothing about the huge community of people living in dire circumstances in this part of London - it’s particularly bad in the summer. It’s a well known issue.

Victorius19 · 05/08/2026 18:07

The DM have got video footage and it would appear to be a woman, quite petite. They're saying it was MH related....

I think you'll find a lot of people have been trying to explain this for decades, well before the SC judgement.

Walkden · 05/08/2026 18:08

"If it was a man, I don’t think there’d be much of a tussle."

Not really a fair comment. Plenty of men have tackled other armed assailants. There was that prisoner out in his 1 day on licence who tackled the London bridge attackers for example.

BillieWiper · 05/08/2026 18:11

If the pics I've seen are indeed of the person, it does look like a woman. The face was blurred out but the slightness of their body looked female. But it's true it's extremely rare for women to attack strangers in the street. It would make more sense if she knew them. Or if it was a trans woman. But I gather it was a severe MH episode.

To continue being cynical, maybe now it's happened to me., something will be done.

Sadly, these problems will get worse. Mental health services are being decimated almost weekly where I work. There is less and less support out there. The housing support staff who work there deserve medals.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 05/08/2026 18:16

Sunnibee · 05/08/2026 18:08

Maybe you're right. I recall women "as a constellation" and other such bollocks.
What is worth noting is how much damage has been done to the social contract by allowing the pretence that sex change is possible. The fact that the media, the police, the NHS & politicians have spouted lies for so long, often using bullying and threats to compel others to comply is a massive problem

It's positive that the BBC are creeping back to honest reporting after their public shaming for this. We now need the police to reacquaint themselves with their role in society and abandon their ties with queer theory lobby grpups and other extremists. And all the rest to follow.
