Covent Garden - why don't I trust the reporting ?

A woman stabbing four men ?

Or am I nasty and old ?

I had the same immediate thought. Someone stabbed four men with scissors - that’s an unusual woman who couldn’t be separated from scissors by four men.

It’s possible. Crowded place, no warning, perpetrator acts quickly. Could have attacked from behind and just gone from one to another in seconds. Or potentially the last one or two could have defensive wounds while disarming her.

Possible doesn't make probable.

However regardless of the reality, the real story is my refusal to take what the Met and BBC are stating as facts.

What else can't I trust them on now ? Crime figures ? Whether it's safe to visit somewhere ? What the law is ?

In the long ago past I wouldn't have doubted that the attacker was an actual woman for a second on reading the BBC story.

Now, I don't trust the police or the BBC to tell the truth. So maybe it was an actual woman with mental health problems. Maybe it wasn't an actual woman at all. I now accept that we will have to do our own research, once a name is published.

If the media hadn't spent ages reporting male crimes as female, we wouldn't have built up such suspicious natures. But they did, so here we are.

Why couldn't a woman stab four unsuspecting people with scissors before they had time to react? Especially in a busy area such as Covent Garden.

Ten years ago it wouldn't have occurred to people to speculate on someone's sex as reported in the media.

Yes because it's totally our fault that the BBC routinely report crimes committed by men larping as women as being carried out by women

not our fault the bbc have beclowned themselves over this for years so no we do always double check because they gave firm for being g lying bastards

They didn't say that either.

They said it would be "unusual" if four men could not overpower a woman.

Neither stating nor suggesting the assailant could not be a women. However we are dealing with the mess of language that has infected reasoned discourse these past decades. It's everywhere.

Either way, it definitely didn't say that a woman couldn't commit the attack. So I'm not sure why Vervara thinks it does.
