Fair play - he's asking for opinions.

He's being pointed to a woman's place and a lot of other GC women and Transpeople.

He was a bit snippy I thought, seems to have bought into the horrible feminists want to deny the exsistence of trans women.

BarrackerBarmer · 26/03/2018 21:23

who is he?

SmurfOrTerf · 26/03/2018 21:32

darth I can't see what you've posted, but I had a quick look at his twitter and he says as a gay cis man, who has been subjected to DV he was refused a place of safety
Hmm

OlennasWimple · 26/03/2018 21:33

Looks promising

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 26/03/2018 21:34

Think he's going to do a Ralph Little

OlennasWimple · 26/03/2018 21:34

Barraker - Paddick is a former senior Met police officer (the most senior openly gay officer, I think?) who is now a Lib Dem peer

PlectrumElectrum · 26/03/2018 21:35

He was a candidate for London mayor a few years ago, former police chief, did a stint on ima a celebrity a few years ago too. I'd need to read u I n him again as it's been a few years & can't remember what he's 'noteworthy' for.

widdlytinks · 26/03/2018 21:35

Hmmm, I don't see it getting far...

RogerAllamsFangirl · 26/03/2018 21:35

He ran for Mayor didn't he?

DarthArts · 26/03/2018 21:37

He's a senior figure in the LibDem party.

I didn't think he came across as snippy.

There's some great women involved in a woman's place.

I'm very confident they will be very clear in articulating the issues.

Yes he ran for London Mayor.

Good to see Debbie Hayton stepping up.

titchy · 26/03/2018 21:45

Perhaps whoever speaks to him can give him a basic biology lesson...

Winewinewinegin · 26/03/2018 21:48

I don't see why people are being negative. I think that it's great he is trying to understand both points of view.

And what on earth is with the face at someone who experienced DV not being able to find a place of safety? We should all be concerned that everyone in this situation should be able to find a place of safety.

donquixotedelamancha · 26/03/2018 21:50

I didn't think he came across as snippy.

He's certainly defensive with some posters, but generally those posters have been rude. I don't understand the point of telling strangers what language they can and can't use out of the blue. A few people on the gender critical side of the argument act like TRAs by metaphorically shouting at anyone who doesn't agree with them.

When a fairly senior politician wants to listen, we should be pleased.

qumquat · 26/03/2018 21:53

He did tweet 'I want to speak to feminists who deny the existence of trans people's which doesn't fill me with confidence that he's actually going to listen.

Winewinewinegin · 26/03/2018 21:53

Thank you to Brian Paddick for being the first politician I've seen take an openly democratic approach to the debate.

Debbie H and Kristina would be great transwomen to speak to, and a woman's place could suggest/bring a group of others to bring a range of perspectives. It is a wide range of women (and some men and trans people too) with concerns and questions not only those who would describe themselves as radical feminists.

Waddlelikeapenguin · 26/03/2018 21:54

I think this is positive, the HoL for all the justified objections do have the advantage of not being vote dependent which occasionally may allow common sense to prevail.

buckeejit · 26/03/2018 21:58

He's shut down his twitter talk about it now tho-only wants face to face discussion 😒

Ekphrasis · 26/03/2018 21:59

So glad Debbie answered.

donquixotedelamancha · 26/03/2018 22:00

He did tweet 'I want to speak to feminists who deny the existence of trans people's which doesn't fill me with confidence that he's actually going to listen.

It's clear he doesn't have a scooby fuking doo, at the moment. Neither did I a couple of months ago. If some of the very articulate members of WPUK get hold of him, and he listens, then there is every chance he will change his mind.

The only people we want to be argumentative with are the ones actually arguing for self ID. There are lots of people who want to be inclusive and tolerant and end up regurgitating a set of phrases without really thinking about the implications- polite, respectful, constructive challenge will change their minds.

freespeechforwomen · 26/03/2018 22:01

I also think this is progress. He'll have been fed the activists line and we all know how difficult it is to challenge that.
He's asking for opinions and it sounds as if there are some good women ready to respond.

DarthArts · 26/03/2018 22:04

@donquixotedelamancha

That's my take on it also.

I think it's especially powerful if people like Debbie are involved in that discussion.

I get the impression he's ignorant of some (many) of the issues, hence the nature of some tweets but I'm hopeful given he's open minded enough to want a dialogue he's equally so to changing his position when presented with a credible set of arguments.

What's a Ralf Little?

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 26/03/2018 22:06

Well fingers crossed. There's a lot of disenfranchised leftish female potential canvassers and voters about after all ...
