As of Friday 30th April

34.3m first jabs
14.9m second jabs

have been given in the UK. This means that 65% of all adults have some level of protection and 28% are fully vaccinated.

Additionally evidence is currently suggesting that the vaccines are effective against the Brazilian and Indian variants 🥳

Just need the ones being offered the vaccine now to stop sticking their noses up at what's being offered and waiting for some magical "100% safe" alternative because if everyone had done that from day 1 then we wouldn't be in the fortunate position we are now.
Much applause for all those working hard day in day out trying their best to get these vaccines rolled out as quickly and efficiently as possible 🙌👏 some people are obviously paid but some are volunteers who selflessly give up their free time to help achieve what we have so far

To be precise, 65.2% of adults have had first jab, so another 1.5% to go until we reach 2/3. So what’s that.... another 750-800,000? We should be there by next weekend.

Or maybe sooner.... if we’ve caught up with second jabs, can we start increasing first jabs again? I got my second jab at 10 weeks plus one day.

Not forgetting our lovely Hugo. Even if it turned out he was a bit to young for us. We still love him dearly and could get reported for stalking him occasionally 😂

May the thread be full of high numbers and millions of stickersWine

Someone on Twitter today says we have just passed the very peak in first vaccinations. So the second numbers should start to fall a bit and firsts go up.

No idea if that is right but they have been getting a lot of people in a only 8 weeks for their seconds. So maybe the strategy?

The first doses bookings seem to have opened up a bit faster now. Looking at mumsnet posts anyway.

We will just have to wait and see

There was a big push on first doses in mid-feb (I think there may have been a target to hit?) and then it tapered off a bit. We're now trackign that taper so, yes, first dose availability should be creeping up.

I'm told by people involved in the vaccine rollout that more supply is anticipated in May, too. But consider that very much gossip rather than certainty! I pass it on because it's gossip I like.

As you may recall, I am an avid watcher of the Covidvax.live site. It helps with the waiting.

That is going Tom pass 50 million doses later today.

I think it's mixed, and probably depends on the area. I live in an area with a high population of older people.

My mother (in a dementia care home) got her second AZ 8 weeks after her first. But she and the other residents are the only ones I know in this area who were done 'early'. My over 70s friends were all called back at the last moment - 11.5 or 12 weeks (both GP hub and major hub).

I had my first AZ at a major hub, I'm now 9 weeks in and am booked to get my second at 11 weeks and 6 days.

My urban LA is doing walk-in catch-up sessions for the over 45s and “at risk” 30-45s though I’m not quite sure what they mean by the latter.

Some of the sessions have been less restricted and anecdotally overpopulated by the sharp-elbowed middle classes, but the long queues at the session at our local mosque look to my eyes to be a really good mix of all the local communities, including some people who became eligible months ago maybe finally feeling confident enough to go, or maybe they were ill when they got the call up - these sessions are excellent for people who happened to have Covid symptoms when they got their original call. Or maybe they didn’t have a GP - the sessions will register you at the same time which is excellent. Lots of people with ESL as well, I wonder if there have been targeted mail shots.

That's correct, or it is at the hub I work at anyway, they will call some people earlier if they have clinics of allocated doses to fill, especially Pfizer due to the shelf life of them. It can sometimes mean it's short notice as in going that day or the following day but most people take up the offer If they can, I appreciate its not always feasible to be called last minute when people have work or family commitments but we're trying our best to get to everyone as quickly as possible

50 million doses is pretty much half the total number we have to give for all adults first and second doses isn't it!
