As of Friday 30th April

34.3m first jabs
14.9m second jabs

have been given in the UK. This means that 65% of all adults have some level of protection and 28% are fully vaccinated.

Additionally evidence is currently suggesting that the vaccines are effective against the Brazilian and Indian variants 🥳

Good question and I have no idea the answer

I think what the tweet is basically saying is there has never been a definite link. Which considering the millions of people now vaccinated you would have thought a few would have occurred.

The main thing I get from this is that the original leaked transmission data from before the government official announcement is likely to be correct. The leaked information said that transmission was blocked in 80 to 85% of cases. Bet the government figure and what this tweet is saying my gut feeling is that leak was correct. That Whitty and co don't want to commit to a higher percentage until much more evidence etc

I think this transmission news is why the jabs are having even more effect than expected. Even if not 100% it is way better than expected.

Those are my non scientist views and may be a load of toshGrin

@TruelyWonder good to see you're happy with the numbers, people are moaning at Hugo's post because the number is low... cant people see that normally weekends/bank holidays have an impact?

Hello Paddy welcome back ❤

----

This is from an article Hugo wrote for the I newspaper 5 days ago. Only just seen it. Actually worth reading the whole thing.

inews.co.uk/news/health/people-in-30s-covid-19-vaccine-mid-may-everyone-aged-40-above-now-eligible-979181

'The Government also appears to be building up a stockpile of Pfizer jabs which can be used to vaccinate the under-30s when their time comes, because of the regulator’s ruling that they should be offered an alternative to Oxford/AstraZeneca following reports of rare blood clots. Up to a million doses a week are entering the UK but close to zero are being given out as first doses.'

inews.co.uk/news/politics/portugal-malta-canary-islands-destinations-to-go-on-green-list-for-holidays-985387[/quote]
The country I wanna go to in September is as well there ! Tho I did expect it as COVID has barely been in the country ... it was one of the latest countries last year to be added to the quarantine list.

On the other side , Spain ... I pray by august when I will fly back it’ll be green as numbers should be low. My parents have both have 1 dose now and most of my friends parents. They’re aiming at everyone over age of 30 to be fully vaccinated by end of august.(as they won’t be using az this can be possible). But tbh being able to hug my nephew after year and a half ... it’ll be worth every second of the quarantine we’ll have to do if Spain is in amber.

So what do we think then - if there’s a stockpile building of Pfizer potentially for under-30s - do we think we could see opening slots for under 30s very soon after over 30s? If in theory they’re getting different vaccines it would make sense

TruelyWonder · 05/05/2021 20:25

Interesting thought lurker. A possibility but they would need to get the logistics right.

Report
Bordois · 05/05/2021 20:38

Maybe they will run parallel - 1 site doing AZ for 30+ and another site doing Pfizer for 18-29?

For what it's worth, there seems to be very little difference in the chance of clotting no matter which vaccine you have: www.marketwatch.com/story/blood-clots-as-prevalent-with-pfizer-and-moderna-vaccine-as-with-astrazenecas-report-2021-04-15

ie vanishingly small for any of them.

The same study also found an increased, but again small, number of clots in the portal (liver) vessel following Pfizer/Moderna jabs over AZ.

I've seen several times on here that there are 'no' cases of clots associated with Pfizer/Moderna or that Pfizer/Moderna 'are not being investigated for clots'.

I hope, and fully expect, that all vaccines are continuously being very carefully monitored for any possible side effects.

I wouldn’t worry.

I wondered what sort of comment this thread would attract which would get deleted, so decided to cyber stalk the poster. They have posted just once on multiple threads, and every one has been deleted. Apart from a few posts on one thread, which have been hidden while MN look into them.

Sorry if this has been mentioned already, but is anyone else loving the new look coronavirus.data.gov.uk website? Grin

Gov.uk is saying that 66.1% of all UK adults have had their 1st dose already - so the total adult (over 18s) population must be slightly less than the 53 million I previously thought - it is in fact 52,607,593.

I have just got back from adding one to the total of second-vaccination people. AZ; no symptoms last time, none so far this and I can't actually locate the injection site, if I hadn't felt it at the time I'd think she must have faked it.
