As of Friday 30th April

34.3m first jabs
14.9m second jabs

have been given in the UK. This means that 65% of all adults have some level of protection and 28% are fully vaccinated.

Additionally evidence is currently suggesting that the vaccines are effective against the Brazilian and Indian variants 🥳

When the vaccine rollout began, I used the Omni vac tracker to estimate when I would get my doses, and it predicted mid May for first dose (I'm early 60s with no extra risk factors).
I actually had my first end of Feb and have appointment for second mid May.
So much faster than predicted! Which is despite a (thankfully) higher uptake than expected

TruelyWonder · 02/05/2021 16:48

Thank you for the numbers 🥳🥳🥳

All signs seem to be that the numbers are going to continue to chug along happily now. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

Do we have to sing the halfway there song tomorrow?

PuzzledObserver · 02/05/2021 17:02

We are very close to 2/3 first dose and 1/3 second dose. It’s just stunning! If only every country had been able to do this.

Bordois · 02/05/2021 17:03

Cases, deaths and admissions still on a downward trend to. Although it looks like we are starting to get to the point were the data are starting to get a bit "noisy" wrt deaths.

1671 / 14 cases and deaths respectively.

I hope Hugo is on time tomorrow, we can collectively play and sing along to Bon Jovi! 🤣

In the last 7 days we have vaccinated 3.5 million people!
Not bad really is itGrin

Daisylion · 02/05/2021 21:39

Is there evidence that AZ protects against Brazilian and Indian variants?

If you take a look at the first post there is a screenshot of a Twitter account. Go check that out. So far it is only the early evidence but that looks great.

I would follow the person on Twitter if you use it. A lot of mumsneters do. They have been really accurate about things like the 12 week gap and variants the whole pandemic. Links to evidence and very clear explanations. American tweeter but still looks at trials from around the world.

The numbers are just fantastic. I will be so excited to get to 35,333,333 1st doses (which will mean 2/3s of all UK adults will have had a 1st dose) and 17,666,666 2nd doses (which will mean 1/3 of all UK adults will have had both doses).

Given that we’ve now vaccinated over 15 million people with both doses, that means all of the most vulnerable members of society (of which there are 13.9 million, according to the attached chart) should now be fully protected and then some, which is wonderful.

254,552 new vaccinations registered yesterday (ex Wales)

Eng 70,777 1st doses / 137,400 2nd doses

Sco 7,203 / 28,935

NI 5,240 / 4,997

More importantly we have hit 50m doses 🥳🥳🥳

FIFTY MILLION!!!!!!!!!

I remember the first of these threads where we were celebrating something like 1.3 million.

Realistically - are we halfway there now? First doses plus second doses is 95%. Some people are never going to have one.

I don't think we can just add them together, because all the second dose people are also in the first-dose figure, by definition.
DdraigGoch · 03/05/2021 15:59

We're currently on 74 doses per 100 people. 51 of which are first doses and 23 are seconds. I would say that the nation is "fully vaccinated" once we are on 140 doses per 100 (so 70% of the population have had both doses, which seems a reasonable figure given refusers and kids).

DdraigGoch · 03/05/2021 16:01

And yes, we're halfway there both in terms of immunity (51% have had their first jab) and in terms of total doses given.

TruelyWonder · 03/05/2021 16:03

The papers and politicians were saying yesterday today's numbers make us halfway there. So that is good enough for me🥳🥳🥳🥳

Also buttery81 is right all the highest priority group people should now have had two doses. Which is bloody awesome Grin

DdraigGoch · 03/05/2021 16:06

Our first doses are two-thirds of the way through those eligible.

TruelyWonder · 03/05/2021 16:42

Ok if nobody else is going to do it I will Grin

Is anyone going to Stone X stadium for covid vaccine? Just want to know what they are giving it now TIA

angrybee · 03/05/2021 17:10

Sorry wrong post😂

PuzzledObserver · 03/05/2021 19:09

Woah, we’re halfway there,
Woah, jabbing everywhere.
Woah, we’ll soon be there!
No more people struggling for air.

I thank you.

It's my turn this week! I'm 39 and soooo pleased it's finally my turn 👏

I still can’t get a close enough vaccination centre! Current closest one is 24 miles away, I’m refreshing the site several times a day. Annoyingly my GP surgery has said they are only doing second doses at the moment and currently have no plans to run a first dose clinic. I’ve been trying for almost a week now, if I can’t get anything closer by the end of this week I’ll have to go on a road trip!

Daisylion · 03/05/2021 23:11

Thanks @Truleywonder I will take a look, sounds good.
